We discuss a number of topics in phonon physics that are relevant to the design of low temperature phonon-based dark matter detectors. These topics include the generation of primæval phonons by the nuclear recoil, the processes by which these phonons decay into lower energy phonons, and the ballistic propagation of these excitations to the sensors on the crystal surface.  相似文献

Alpha particles stopped in a 3 liter volume of liquid helium at 30 mK are observed by the calorimetric detection of helium atoms evaporated from the free surface of the liquid. Quantum evaporation of the helium is produced by the rotons that are created by the particle. While the energy spectrum of the 5.5 MeV 's from the241Am source has a width of less than 0.5%, the energy distribution of the observed evaporation signals extends from the low energy threshold of several keV up to a maximum of several 100 keV, depending on geometrical factors and the collection area of the calorimeter. The origin of the observed distribution may result in part from the presence of the substrate and a dependence on the direction of the track of the particle. A simple model of the generation of rotons by the particle will be discussed.  相似文献

Most Web Search Engines (WSEs) are appropriate for focalized search, i.e., they make the assumption that users can accurately describe their information need using a small sequence of terms. However, as several user studies have shown, a high percentage of search tasks are exploratory, and focalized search very commonly leads to inadequate interactions and poor results. This paper proposes exploiting static and dynamically mined metadata for enriching web searching with exploration services. Online results clustering, which is a mining task of dynamic nature since it is based on query-dependent snippets, is useful for providing users with overviews of the top results and thus allowing them to restrict their focus to the desired parts. On the other hand, the various static metadata that are available to a search engine (e.g., domain, language, date, and filetype) are commonly exploited only through the advanced (form-based) search facilities that some WSEs offer (and users rarely use). We propose an approach that combines both kinds of metadata by adopting the interaction paradigm of dynamic taxonomies and faceted exploration, which allows the users to restrict their focus gradually using both static and dynamically derived metadata. Special focus is given on the design and analysis of incremental algorithms for speeding up the exploration process. The experimental evaluation over a real WSE shows that this combination results to an effective, flexible, and efficient exploration experience. Finally, we report the results of a user study indicating that this direction is promising in terms of user preference, satisfaction, and effort.  相似文献

Vitamin B1 has been determined in a large number of beers by the fermentation method of Schultz, Atkin and Frey which has not previously been applied to worts and beers. In general, the highest amounts were found in beers of high original gravity and in those made almost entirely from malt. Well-attenuated and unprimed beers give the highest ratio, units of B1: calories. During the brew the malt, almost the sole source of vitamin B1, yields up the vitamin to the wort, which in its turn loses most of it to the yeast. Most of the vitamin B1 results have been confirmed by the thiochrome method involving an entirely different principle, whilst the general validity of both methods was further confirmed by animal feedings tests. Determination of Riboflavin (vitamin B2) by the microbiological method of Snell and Strong has led to the following conclusions:—Riboflavin is formed during germination of barley and in growing yeast. Most of the riboflavin of the malt passes into the wort during mashing and sparging and remains in the beer, the yeast not taking out any appreciable quantity. The number of microgrms. of riboflavin per 100 ml. of beer, in general, exceeds somewhat the number of degrees of original gravity.  相似文献

The “ligand induced electroless plating (LIEP) process” is a simple process to obtain localized metal plating onto flexible polymers such as poly(ethylene terephtalate) and polyvinylidene fluoride sheets. This generic and cost‐effective process, efficient on any common polymer surface, is based on the covalent grafting by the GraftFast process of a thin chelating polymer film, such as poly(acrylic acid), which can complex copper ions. The entrapped copper ions are then chemically reduced in situ and the resulting Cu0 species act as a seed layer for the electroless copper growth which, thus, starts inside the host polymer. The present work focuses on the application of the LIEP process to the patterning of localized metallic tracks via two simple lithographic methods. The first is based on a standard photolithography process using a positive photoresist masking to prevent the covalent grafting of PAA in designated areas of the polymer substrate. In the second, the patterning is performed by direct printing of the mask with a commercial laser printer. In both cases, the mask was lifted off before the copper electroless plating step, which provides ecological benefits, since only the amount of copper necessary for the metallic patterning is used.  相似文献

Tungsten oxide nanostructures functionalized with gold or platinum NPs are synthesized and integrated, using a single‐step method via aerosol‐assisted chemical vapour deposition, onto micro‐electromechanical system (MEMS)‐based gas‐sensor platforms. This co‐deposition method is demonstrated to be an effective route to incorporate metal nanoparticles (NP) or combinations of metal NPs into nanostructured materials, resulting in an attractive way of tuning functionality in metal oxides (MOX). The results show variations in electronic and sensing properties of tungsten oxide according to the metal NPs introduced, which are used to discriminate effectively analytes (C2H5OH, H2, and CO) that are present in proton‐exchange fuel cells. Improved sensing characteristics, in particular to H2, are observed at 250 °C with Pt‐functionalized tungsten oxide films, whereas non‐functionalized tungsten oxide films show responses to low concentrations of CO at low temperatures. Differences in the sensing characteristics of these films are attributed to the different reactivities of metal NPs (Au and Pt), and to the degree of electronic interaction at the MOX/metal NP interface. The method presented in this work has advantages over other methods of integrating nanomaterials and devices, of having fewer processing steps, relatively low processing temperature, and no requirement for substrate pre‐treatment.  相似文献

Circuit ageing degradation is becoming worse in advanced technologies, while application fields like military, medical and energy demand more reliability. Thus, reliability is one of the most important challenges of the semiconductor industry [1]. In this work, we review the physical ageing phenomena, their simulation model, and how they can be avoided. Then, we propose a synthesis methodology composed of classical circuit optimization with the reliability analysis in earlier stages. Also, the variability of the integration process technology is taken into account. We compare a classical and a reliable designed digital controlled oscillator (DCO) in order to show a reduction of 16% in the oscillation frequency ageing degradation. In this way, the reliable design makes the circuit lifetime five times longer, if we fix the maximum frequency ageing degradation at 2.0%. Finally, we present the reliability as a design criterion, advantages and disadvantages of our methodology.  相似文献

The objective of this work is proposing a simple thermodynamic model to explain the increase in the solubility limit of the powders of the Cu–Mo systems or other binary systems processed by mechanical alloying. In the regular solution model, the effects of crystalline defects, such as; dislocations and grain boundary produced during milling were introduced. The model gives results that are consistent with the solubility limit extension reported in other works for the Cu–Cr, Cu–Nb and Cu–Fe systems processed by mechanical alloying.  相似文献
