To estimate the potential and electric field generated by any electrode array is very useful in effective tumor destruction. At present, an electrode array that takes into account the ellipsoidal geometry of the solid tumors has not been proposed. We present both analytical and numerical solutions for the potential and electric field in a solid tumor established by an electrode array with elliptic shape which may be used in vitro, in vivo and in clinical studies for cancer treatment with electrotherapy. These analytical and numerical solutions are obtained using multipole expansion and the finite difference method. Distributions of potential and electric field magnitudes are computed in function of the eccentricity of an elliptical array and compared with those obtained with a circular array of electrode. Maximum difference and Root Means Square Error are used to compare the distributions of the potential and electric field in leading-order and first-order correction and between the analytical and numerical solutions. The results show a good agreement between these distributions in both orders and the analytical and numerical solutions. It was concluded that the mathematical approach presented in this study is a tool for a rapid design of electrode elliptical arrays in order to induce the maximum destruction of the tumor. Moreover, it is shown that, for all values of eccentricity, there is a good correspondence between the distributions of the potential and the electric field for leading-order and first-order correction and for both the analytical and numerical solutions.  相似文献

Successful treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the most lethal tumor of the brain, is presently hampered by (i) the limits of safe surgical resection and (ii) “shielding” of residual tumor cells from promising chemotherapeutic drugs such as Gemcitabine (Gem) by the blood brain barrier (BBB). Here, the vastly greater GBM cell-killing potency of Gem compared to the gold standard temozolomide is confirmed, moreover, it shows neuronal cells to be at least 104-fold less sensitive to Gem than GBM cells. The study also demonstrates the potential of an electronically-driven organic ion pump (“GemIP”) to achieve controlled, targeted Gem delivery to GBM cells. Thus, GemIP-mediated Gem delivery is confirmed to be temporally and electrically controllable with pmol min−1 precision and electric addressing is linked to the efficient killing of GBM cell monolayers. Most strikingly, GemIP-mediated GEM delivery leads to the overt disintegration of targeted GBM tumor spheroids. Electrically-driven chemotherapy, here exemplified, has the potential to radically improve the efficacy of GBM adjuvant chemotherapy by enabling exquisitely-targeted and controllable delivery of drugs irrespective of whether these can cross the BBB.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of seeing the instructor's (i.e., the model's) face in video modeling examples on students' attention and their learning outcomes. Research with university students suggested that the model's face attracts students' attention away from what the model is doing, but this did not hamper learning. We aimed to investigate whether we would replicate this finding in adolescents (prevocational education) and to establish how adolescents with autism spectrum disorder, who have been found to look less at faces generally, would process video examples in which the model's face is visible. Results showed that typically developing adolescents who did see the model's face paid significantly less attention to the task area than typically developing adolescents who did not see the model's face. Adolescents with autism spectrum disorder paid less attention to the model's face and more to the task demonstration area than typically developing adolescents who saw the model's face. These differences in viewing behavior, however, did not affect learning outcomes. This study provides further evidence that seeing the model's face in video examples affects students' attention but not their learning outcomes.  相似文献

This work evaluates the influence of two types of carbonaceous fillers, carbon black (CB) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), on the electrical, electromagnetic, and rheological properties of composites based on poly(acrylonitrile‐co‐butadiene‐co‐styrene) (ABS) prepared by the melt mixing. Electrical conductivity, electromagnetic shielding efficiency (EMI SE) in the X‐band frequency range (8–12.4 GHz), and melt flow index (MFI) results showed that ABS/CNT composites exhibit higher electrical conductivity and EMI SE, but lower MFI when compared to ABS/CB composites. The electrical conductivity of the binary composites showed an increase of around 16 orders of magnitude, when compared to neat ABS, for both fillers. Binary composites with 5 and 15 wt % of filler showed an EMI SE of, respectively, ?44 and ?83 dB for ABS/CNT, and ?9 and ?34 dB for ABS/CB. MFI for binary composites with 5 wt % were 15.45 and 0.55 g/10 min for CB and CNT, respectively. Hybrid composites ABS/CNT.CB with 3 wt % total filler and fraction 50:50 and 75:25 showed good correlation between EMI SE and MFI. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Novel electrophilic trisubstituted ethylene monomers, alkyl ring-substituted 2-cyano-3-phenyl-2-propenamides, RC6H4CH=C(CN)CONH2 (where R is 2-methyl, 3-methyl, 4-methyl, 4-ethyl, 4-i-propyl, 4-i-butyl, and 4-t-butyl), were synthesized by potassium hydroxide catalyzed Knoevenagel condensation of ring-substituted benzaldehydes and cyanoacetamide, and characterized by CHN elemental analysis, IR, 1H- and 13C-NMR. Novel copolymers of the ethylenes and styrene were prepared at equimolar monomer feed composition by solution copolymerization in the presence of a radical initiator, AIBN at 70 °C. The composition of the copolymers was calculated from nitrogen analysis, and the structures were analyzed by IR, 1H- and 13C-NMR, GPC, DSC, and TGA. High T g of the copolymers in comparison with that of polystyrene indicates a substantial decrease in chain mobility of the copolymer due to the high dipolar character of the trisubstituted ethylene monomer unit. Decomposition of the copolymers in nitrogen occurred in two steps, first in the 200–500 °C range with residue (5–7 wt%), which then decomposed in the 500–800 °C range.  相似文献

Abstract

Seven selfcomplementary decamer oligodeoxyribonucleotides were reacted with (–)–anti–(11R,12S)–dihydrodiol (13S,14R)–epoxide of dibenzo[a,l]pyrene (DB[a,l]PDE). The oligodeoxyribonucleotides were postlabeled with 33P–ATP, digested to mononucleotides and the amount of adducts formed was determined by HPLC. We found that the nucleotide sequence affects the binding of DB[a,l]PDE to DNA. DB[a,l]PDE binds better to GC rich oligodeoxyribonucleotides than to AT rich oligodeoxyribonucleotides. The CGC sequence binds more DB[a,l]PDE than GGC, TGC, GAT or AGC sequences. The reactions were carried out on ice or at 37°C. There was no evidence of temperature effects on the amount of DB[a,l]PDE binding.  相似文献

This paper describes the investigation and development of a novel magnetic drug delivery nanosystem (labeled as MO-20) for cancer therapy. The drug employed was oncocalyxone A (onco A), which was isolated from Auxemma oncocalyx, an endemic Brazilian plant. It has a series of pharmacological properties: antioxidant, cytotoxic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and antiplatelet. Onco A was associated with magnetite nanoparticles in order to obtain magnetic properties. The components of MO-20 were characterized by XRD, FTIR, TGA, TEM and Magnetization curves. The MO-20 presented a size of about 30 nm and globular morphology. In addition, drug releasing experiments were performed, where it was observed the presence of the anomalous transport. The results found in this work showed the potential of onco A for future applications of the MO-20 as a new magnetic drug release nanosystem for cancer treatment.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to describe the results obtained after growth hormone (GH) treatment and neurorehabilitation in a young man that suffered a very grave traumatic brain injury (TBI) after a plane crash. Methods: Fifteen months after the accident, the patient was treated with GH, 1 mg/day, at three-month intervals, followed by one-month resting, together with daily neurorehabilitation. Blood analysis at admission showed that no pituitary deficits existed. At admission, the patient presented: spastic tetraplegia, dysarthria, dysphagia, very severe cognitive deficits and joint deformities. Computerized tomography scanners (CT-Scans) revealed the practical loss of the right brain hemisphere and important injuries in the left one. Clinical and blood analysis assessments were performed every three months for three years. Feet surgery was needed because of irreducible equinovarus. Results: Clinical and kinesitherapy assessments revealed a prompt improvement in cognitive functions, dysarthria and dysphagia disappeared and three years later the patient was able to live a practically normal life, walking alone and coming back to his studies. No adverse effects were observed during and after GH administration. Conclusions: These results, together with previous results from our group, indicate that GH treatment is safe and effective for helping neurorehabilitation in TBI patients, once the acute phase is resolved, regardless of whether or not they have GH-deficiency (GHD).  相似文献

A new micro-kinetic model of the enzyme-catalyzed synthesis of fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) was developed. A commercial enzyme mixture Pectinex® Ultra SP-L derived from Aspergillus aculeatus was used. A variety of initial enzyme concentrations (1–5 vol%) and sucrose concentrations (400–600 g/L) were experimentally investigated and included in kinetic modeling. Several variations of kinetic mechanisms and corresponding models have been examined. A hybrid genetic algorithm was used to predict the kinetic parameters simultaneously for all experimental data. The best fitting model has been adopted, and with an average error of 13.34%, it describes the experimental data very well. The influence of initial concentrations on the conversion of sucrose and production of FOS is being carefully investigated. It was shown that the initial sucrose concentration significantly affects the highest level of FOS concentration, but the enzyme concentration controls the time at which maximum is reached as well as the rate of FOS decomposition.  相似文献

Even though industrial biotechnology is successfully used for the production of some chemicals, for many other chemicals it is not yet competitive with conventional petrochemical production. Usually, fermentation as well as downstream processing requires improvement. Downstream processing has to deal with low product concentrations, microorganisms, impurities and thermodynamic constraints (e.g., azeotropes), which often makes it very challenging and expensive, especially on a large scale. However, downstream processing of biochemicals has not attracted as much attention as upstream fermentation processes. In that context, this perspective paper offers a lightly referenced scholarly opinion about the downstream processing performance of different bioalcohols after fermentation. Due to the stronger toxicity effects on microbes, the achievable concentrations of monohydric aliphatic alcohols in the fermentation broth decrease with the increasing chain length. Specifically, the concentrations used here are 6.14, 5.00, 1.61 and 0.24 wt% of ethanol, isopropanol, isobutanol and hexanol, respectively. More dilute fermentation broths lead to more complex recovery processes. According to our previous work, the total purification costs increase from 0.080 USD kg−1 for ethanol, 0.109 USD kg−1 for isopropanol and 0.161 USD kg−1 for isobutanol to 0.529 USD kg−1 for hexanol. A similar trend is noticeable for the energy usage (0.960, 1.348, 2.018 and 3.069 kWthh kg−1, respectively) and the related CO2 emissions (0.164, 0.221, 0.449 and 0.555 kgCO2 kg−1, respectively). This work shows that advanced separation and purification based on process intensification principles are crucial for overall efficient production processes. The achievable product concentration in the fermentation broth – and not so much the alcohol chain length – has the biggest influence on the performance of downstream processing. Therefore, simultaneous development of both upstream and downstream processing is necessary to ensure the competitiveness and viability of industrial fermentation processes. © 2024 The Author(s).
