Summary The accumulation of > 0.8 gm lead containing, suspended particles from polluted sea water in mussel (Mytillus galloprovincialis Lamarck) was studied. Lead was determined in the ash of the edible part of the mussel by a voltammetric macromethod. Atomic absorption spectroscopy was used for determining particulate lead in sea water. The statistically significant linear regression, observed for lead in mussel on lead in sea water, indicates that a fraction of lead found in the mollusc has a particulate origin, with an enrichment factor of about 2300.
Verunreinigungen von Miesmuscheln durch bleihaltige Partikel aus Seewasser
Zusammenfassung Die Aufnahme von bleihaltigen Partikeln aus verunreinigtem Seewasser durch Miesmuscheln (Mytilus galloprorincialis Lamarck) wurde untersucht. Der Bleigehalt wurde in der Asche des Muschelfleisches durch eine voltammetrische Methode sowie in (> 0.8 m Partikeln) aus Seewasser durch Atomabsorptionsspektroskopie bestimmt. Der Bleigehalt der Miesmuscheln korreliert mit dem Bleigehalt des Seewassers, wobei der Anreicherungsfaktor ungefähr 2300 beträgt.

New experimental results are reported for the modification of 50/50 polyester/cotton blend fabrics made from bromine-free and bromine-containing polyester with a reactive flame retardant compound of high phosphorus content. Reaction of the cotton in the blend with methyl-phosphonic diamide yields modified fabrics in which flame resistance is attained without impairment of fabric hand. The level of flame resistance depends on the amount of insolubilized phosphorus in the treated fabric, but the hand is essentially unchanged even for fabrics of high phosphorus content which pass the vertical test of DOC-FF-3-71. The results of this work provide a basis for improved definitions of future approaches to the development of flame resistant polyester/cotton blend fabrics.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: In Citrus, root temperature regulates rind colouration. However, few studies have investigated the range of temperatures and timing which determine rind colour break. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between range of soil temperature (ST) and rind colour development in the precocious ‘Clemenpons’ Clementine mandarin. Reflective white plastic mulch was used to modify root temperature. RESULTS: Mulching increased reflected light and reduced daily maximum ST and temperature range, major differences being established 70–30 days before harvest. Rind colour‐break correlated positively with 20 °C < ST < 23 °C; thus, 20–23 °C appears to be the ST threshold interval for fruit colouration. The sooner the soil reached it, the sooner the fruit changed rind colour. In our experiments, control trees accumulated 565 h at this ST interval before fruit changed colour, whereas in treated trees it occurred 2 weeks earlier. Hence, in treated trees the colour break was advanced by 2 weeks and this increased the percentage of fruit harvested at the first picking date by up to 2.5‐fold. Conclusions: Fruit colour‐break does not take place at a certain ST, but after several hours at a ST of 20–23 °C. In our experiments, reducing ST during the 2 months before harvest advances the first picking date in the ‘Clemenpons’ Clementine mandarin. Copyright © 2011 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

In this study, we designed and developed novel poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL)-based biomaterials, for use as bone scaffolds, through modification with both biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP), to impart bioactive/bioresorbable properties, and with silver nitrate, to provide antibacterial protection against Staphylococcus aureus, a microorganism involved in prosthetic joint infections (PJIs). Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) showed that the samples were characterized by square-shaped macropores, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis confirmed the presence of PCL and BCP phases, while inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (ICP–MS) established the release of Ag+ in the medium (~0.15–0.8 wt% of initial Ag content). Adhesion assays revealed a significant (p < 0.0001) reduction in both adherent and planktonic staphylococci on the Ag-functionalized biomaterials, and the presence of an inhibition halo confirmed Ag release from enriched samples. To assess the potential outcome in promoting bone integration, preliminary tests on sarcoma osteogenic-2 (Saos-2) cells indicated PCL and BCP/PCL biocompatibility, but a reduction in viability was observed for Ag-added biomaterials. Due to their combined biodegrading and antimicrobial properties, the silver-enriched BCP/PCL-based scaffolds showed good potential for engineering of bone tissue and for reducing PJIs as a microbial anti-adhesive tool used in the delivery of targeted antimicrobial molecules, even if the amount of silver needs to be tuned to improve osteointegration.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The first results of a multicentric study dealing with recurrent varicose veins after surgery are presented. The aims of the study are: identifying the type of varicose vein, specifying the most frequent complaints (esthetical or functional), locating the causes of recurrence, establishing the causes and the most frequent seat of recurrence, clarifying whether it is enough to call recurrent all the varicose veins which appear after surgery or whether it is necessary to distinguish various typologies. METHODS: 194 patients (139 women and 55 men) aged 51.6 average (range 28-87), have been studied up to now with duplex and color scanner following a precise protocol which consisted of three stages: before treatment, within 2 months from treatment and after recurrence of varicose veins or venous insufficiency symptoms. RESULTS: Recurrent varicose veins represented 65.7%, residual ones 14.3%, new ones 2.5%. It has not been possible to identify the type of varicose vein in 8.3% of cases. Stripping of the great saphenous veins was carried out in 88% of cases, short stripping in 4.1%, stripping of the short saphenous veins in 6.9%. Recurrent varicose veins were due to technical error in 78.7% of cases, to diagnostic error in 9.2%, to unidentifiable causes in 12% of cases. CONCLUSIONS: Data relating to the prospective study of the research will be published in subsequent papers.  相似文献

Ring Finger Protein 213 (RNF213), also known as Mysterin, is the major susceptibility factor for Moyamoya Arteriopathy (MA), a progressive cerebrovascular disorder that often leads to brain stroke in adults and children. Although several rare RNF213 polymorphisms have been reported, no major susceptibility variant has been identified to date in Caucasian patients, thus frustrating the attempts to identify putative therapeutic targets for MA treatment. For these reasons, the investigation of novel biochemical functions, substrates and unknown partners of RNF213 will help to unravel the pathogenic mechanisms of MA and will facilitate variant interpretations in a diagnostic context in the future. The aim of the present review is to discuss novel perspectives regarding emerging RNF213 roles in light of recent literature updates and dissect their relevance for understanding MA and for the design of future research studies. Since its identification, RNF213 involvement in angiogenesis and vasculogenesis has strengthened, together with its role in inflammatory signals and proliferation pathways. Most recent studies have been increasingly focused on its relevance in antimicrobial activity and lipid metabolism, highlighting new intriguing perspectives. The last area could suggest the main role of RNF213 in the proteasome pathway, thus reinforcing the hypotheses already previously formulated that depict the protein as an important regulator of the stability of client proteins involved in angiogenesis. We believe that the novel evidence reviewed here may contribute to untangling the complex and still obscure pathogenesis of MA that is reflected in the lack of therapies able to slow down or halt disease progression and severity.  相似文献

Nanosized MgO is a functional material showing a great promise as destructive adsorbent for toxic chemical agents, unique optical electronic, magnetic, thermal, and mechanical properties, as well as in good bactericidal performance in aqueous environments and in the cancer therapy. In this study, MgO nanoparticles are obtained by thermal decomposition of nanosized Mg(OH)2, which are synthesized by means of an innovative, time and cost‐effective, scalable, and patented method. The nanoparticles are characterized by means of several techniques such as thermal analyses, X‐ray diffraction analysis, infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and surface area measurements (BET). After a pseudomorphic decomposition of the hydroxide precursor, pure and crystalline MgO nanoparticles are obtained. These nanoparticles are roughly spherical, monodispersed, and monocrystalline, having size ≤10 nm. Moreover, they exhibited a surface area up to 178 m2/g, revealing a bimodal mesoporous distribution with the important part of the pores with dimensions peaked at 4.87 nm.  相似文献

Four species of edible tubers endemic to and domesticated in the Andes, native potato (Solanum sp.), mashua (Tropaeolum tuberosum Ruiz & Pavón), oca (Oxalis tuberosa Molina) and ulluco (Ullucus tuberosus Caldas), were studied for their antioxidant capacity and associated secondary metabolites. The antioxidant capacity was measured using ABTS? radicals and total phenolics, carotenoids, anthocyanin, betaxanthin and betacyanin content were also characterized. The antioxidant capacity found in the crops studied ranged from 483 to 9800 µg trolox equiv. g?1, phenolics ranged from 0.41 to 3.37 mg chlorogenic acid equiv. g?1, anthocyanins ranged from 0.08 to 2.05 mg cyanidin 3‐glucoside g?1 and carotenoids ranged from 1 to 25 µg β‐carotene g?1. The content of bioactive compounds was high and variable between crops and within the genotypes studied. In general, mashua tubers showed the highest antioxidant capacity and phenolic, anthocyanin and carotenoid content compared with other crops. Ulluco was the only crop that contained betalains in the acid form of betaxanthins (22–96 µg g?1) and betacyanins (64 µg g?1) with no presence of carotenoids or anthocyanins. This is the first publication regarding the antioxidant capacity of and associated secondary metabolites in Andean tubers. This information can be useful in the identification of Andean tubers species and genotypes with potential value as a novel dietary source of antioxidants for food, and also for medicinal use.
