The surfaces of cordierite and glass particles were modified by coating them with an alumina precursor using a precipitation process in the presence of urea. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, electrophoresis, and rheological measurements were used to characterize the coated powders. SEM and transmission electron microscopy morphologies of the coated powders revealed that amorphous and homogeneous coatings have been formed around the particles. The morphology of the coated powders showed a coiled wormlike surface. The coating Al2 O3 layer dominated the surface properties of the coated glass and cordierite powders. The influence of the coating layer on the processing ability of cordierite-based glass-ceramics substrates by tape casting was studied in aqueous media. It could be concluded that the coating of the powders facilitates the processing and yields green and sintered tapes with denser, more homogeneous microstructures compared with the uncoated powders. 相似文献

Vulcanized composites of chloroprene rubber (CR) with cellulose II (Cel II) as a filler were investigated. Cel II, obtained by the coagulation of cellulose xanthate, was incorporated in the rubber by the traditional method. The filler content varied from 0 to 30 phr. For comparison purposes, carbon black (CB)–CR composites were also studied. The CB amount varied from 0 to 45 phr. The mechanical and dynamic mechanical properties were determined, and the CR composite containing 20 phr of Cel II showed the best set of properties. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Animals rely on multimodal signals to obtain information from conspecifics through alternative sensory systems, and the evolutionary loss of a signal in one modality may lead to compensation through increased use of signals in an alternative modality. We investigated associations between chemical signaling and evolutionary loss of abdominal color patches in males of four species (two plain-bellied and two colorful-bellied) of Sceloporus lizards. We conducted field trials to compare behavioral responses of male lizards to swabs with femoral gland (FG) secretions from conspecific males and control swabs (clean paper). We also analyzed the volatile organic compound (VOC) composition of male FG secretions by stir bar extraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to test the hypothesis that loss of the visual signal is associated with elaboration of the chemical signal. Males of plain-bellied, but not colorful-bellied species exhibited different rates of visual displays when exposed to swabs of conspecific FG secretions relative to control swabs. The VOC composition of male Sceloporus FG secretions was similar across all four species, and no clear association between relative abundances of VOCs and evolutionary loss of abdominal color patches was observed. The emerging pattern is that behavioral responses to conspecific chemical signals are species- and context-specific in male Sceloporus, and compensatory changes in receivers, but not signalers may be involved in mediating increased responsiveness to chemical signals in males of plain-bellied species. 相似文献

Summary Conductive thermoplastic blends of polystyrene and
polyaniline doped with dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid, DBSA and
polystyrene sulfonic acid were prepared in an internal mixer. We
used a block copolymer of styrene and butadiene as
compatibilizer. Different formulations were tested according to
a statistical response surface method. The electrical
conductivity and the microwave radiation absorbing properties of
the blends were evaluated. The concentration of the
compatibilizer and polyaniline and the blend film thickness

Inflammation and haemorrhage are the main characteristics of tissue injury in botropic envenomation. Although some studies have shown that anti-venom prevents systemic reactions, it is not efficient in preventing tissue injury at the site of the bite. Therefore, this work was undertaken to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of the methanolic extract and fractions from D. elliptica and to evaluate the role of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in this process. Effects of the extract and fractions from D. elliptica were evaluated using a carrageenan-induced paw oedema model in rats, and leukocyte rolling was visualized by intravital. The quantification of MMPs activities (MMP-2 and MMP-9) extracted from the dermis of mice treated with extract and fractions alone or incubated with venom was determined by zymographic analyses. Our results show that intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of fractions significantly reduced paw oedema after the carrageenan challenge. Treatment with the tannins fraction also resulted in considerable inhibition of the rolling of leukocytes and this fraction was able to decrease the activation of MMP-9. These results confirmed the anti-inflammatory activity of the methanolic extract and tannins fraction of D. elliptica and showed that the dermonecrosis properties of B. jararaca venom might be mediated through the inhibition of MMP-9 activity. 相似文献

Several species from the Brassica genus are very important agricultural crops in different parts of the world and are also known to be heavy metal accumulators. There have been a large number of studies regarding the tolerance, uptake and defense mechanism in several of these species, notably Brassica juncea and B. napus, against the stress induced by heavy metals. Numerous studies have also been published about the capacity of these species to be used for phytoremediation purposes but with mixed results. This study presents the synthesis of the novel protected O‐glycosylated amino acid derivatives 1 and 2 , containing βGalNAc‐SerOBn and βGalNAc‐ThrOBn units, respectively, as mimetics of the natural Tn antigen (αGalNAc‐Ser/Thr), along with the solid‐phase assembly of the glycopeptides NHAcSer‐Ala‐Pro‐Asp‐Thr[αGalNAc]‐Arg‐Pro‐Ala‐Pro‐Gly‐BSA ( 3 ‐BSA) and NHAcSer‐Ala‐Pro‐Asp‐Thr[βGalNAc]‐Arg‐Pro‐Ala‐Pro‐Gly‐BSA ( 4 ‐BSA), bearing αGalNAc‐Thr or βGalNAc‐Thr units, respectively, as mimetics of MUC1 tumor mucin glycoproteins. According to ELISA tests, immunizations of mice with βGalNAc‐glycopeptide 4 ‐BSA induced higher sera titers (1:320 000) than immunizations with αGalNAc‐glycopeptide 3 ‐BSA (1:40 000). Likewise, flow cytometry assays showed higher capacity of the obtained anti‐glycopeptide 4 ‐BSA antibodies to recognize MCF‐7 tumor cells. Cross‐recognition between immunopurified anti‐βGalNAc antibodies and αGalNAc‐glycopeptide and vice versa was also verified. Lastly, molecular dynamics simulations and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) showed that βGalNAc‐glycopeptide 4 can interact with a model antitumor monoclonal antibody (SM3).
