In many industrial plants, multiple, interconnected control loops are common. Their maintenance and improvement requires detailed controller performance assessment to determine not only whether they are behaving well, but also to determine the potential cause of any observed problems. Techniques for performance assessment can be divided into two broad categories (1) performance assessment of regulatory control loops; and (2) performance assessment of supervisory control loops that evaluate the economic performance of advanced control strategies, such as model predictive control (MPC). In this study, the CO2 adsorption analysis in cellulose acetate–TiO2- and cellulose acetate–3-aminopropyl-trimethoxysilane TiO2-blended membranes was performed. The membranes were also characterized using scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared analysis techniques. The adsorption results indicated that 120 and 90°C were considered as optimized temperatures for regeneration of cellulose acetate–TiO2 and cellulose acetate–3-aminopropyl-trimethoxysilane-modified TiO2 membranes. The testing results revealed that adsorption capacity reached maximum at 3.0 bars. Validation of experimental results was performed by pseudo-first-order, second-order and intraparticle diffusion models. The correlation factor R2 represented that the second-order model was fitted well with the experimental data. The intraparticle diffusion model represented that adsorption is not a single-step process. 相似文献

Electron beam (EB)-irradiation is increasingly being preferred to radioactive-based gamma irradiation in overcoming the constraints that affect the quality of food material. Soybean seeds of 3 soybean genotypes were exposed to 4 doses viz. 4.8, 9.2, 15.3 and 21.2 kGy of EB-irradiation and assessed for the changes in the contents of lipoxygenase isozymes and tocopherol isomers. Densitometry of protein profile revealed decreasing intensity of lipoxygenase with increasing EB dose. All the 3 lipoxygenase isozymes viz. lipoxygenase-1, -2 and -3 registered significant (P < 0.05) increasing reduction with increasing dose; though genotypic variation was noted for the magnitude of reduction at the same dose. Concomitantly, all the 3 genotypes exhibited significant (P < 0.05) decline in α-, γ- and δ-isomers of tocopherol. δ-Tocopherol was the most sensitive to EB-irradiation. EB dose, which caused minimum and maximum decline in total tocopherol content, was genotype-dependent. Decline in vitamin E activity corresponding to the dose, which induced maximum reduction for total lipoxygenase also varied in 3 genotypes. The study showed the usefulness of EB for significant inactivation of off-flavor generating lipoxygenases in soybean, with a non-significant effect on oil content and varied retention of tocopherol isomers and vitamin E activity depending upon genotype. 相似文献

The present study focused on the preparation of nanohydroxyapatite (nHA)-coated hydroxyethyl cellulose/polyvinyl alcohol (HEC/PVA) nanofibrous scaffolds for bone tissue engineering application. The electrospun HEC/PVA scaffolds were mineralized via alternate soaking process. FESEM revealed that the nHA was formed uniformly over the nanofibers. The nHA mineralization enhanced the tensile strength and reduced the elongation at breakage of scaffolds. The wettability of the nanofibrous scaffolds was significantly improved. The in vitro biocompatibility of scaffolds was evaluated with human osteosarcoma cells. nHA-coated scaffolds had a favorable effect on the proliferation and differentiation of osteosarcoma cell and could be a potential candidate for bone regeneration. 相似文献

An innovative technology for wastewater treatment using adsorption and electrochemical regeneration has been developed at the University of Manchester. The process uses a low capacity graphitic adsorbent material (a graphite intercalation compound, NyexTM 1000) which can be regenerated electrochemically. In this study, we investigate the characteristics of a new, partially porous adsorbent material, NyexTM 2000 which offers increased surface area in comparison with NyexTM 1000. NyexTM 2000 was found to have an adsorption capacity of almost three times that of NyexTM 1000. The electrical conductivity of a NyexTM 2000 was found to be double that of NyexTM 1000, enabling improvements in the electrochemical regeneration characteristics. The removal of an anionic azo dye, acid violet 17, from aqueous solution using NyexTM 1000 and 2000 was investigated under various operating conditions. The adsorption of acid violet 17 on NyexTM 2000 was found to be comparatively fast with 75 % of the equilibrium capacity being achieved within 5 min. The parameters affecting the regeneration efficiency including the charge passed, current density, treatment time, adsorbent bed thickness, and pH were investigated. An electrochemical regeneration efficiency of around 100 % was achieved for a fully loaded NyexTM 2000 in a sequential batch electrochemical cell with a regeneration time of 60 min and a charge passed of 100 C g−1 at a current density of 14 mA cm−2. The charge required for electrochemical regeneration was found to be approximately equal to theoretical charge required for complete oxidation of the adsorbed acid violet 17, making process design relatively simple. NyexTM 2000 was found to be an economic adsorbent with relatively small electrical energy consumption required (31 J mg−1 of acid violet 17 treated, compared to 52 J mg−1 of acid violet 17 for NyexTM 1000). Multiple adsorption/regeneration cycles presented no loss in adsorptive capacity and material loses over five adsorption/regeneration cycles. 相似文献

We have optimized the wet precipitation synthesis of hydroxyapaptite to obtain thermally stable powder in the short time span of 3 min. Exposure of the reaction mixture to 1000 W microwave for 3 min furnished hydroxyapatite, which was thermally stable at temperatures up to 1200 °C. A 2-year study was carried out to examine the effects of solid cattle manure storage method on (1) total carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) losses, (2) first-year and residual manure dry matter (DM) and N disappearance after litterbag placement on grassland, and (3) apparent herbage N recovery (ANR) after a single surface application to a sandy grassland field. About twelve tonnes of fresh (FRE) manure taken from a litter barn were stored per treatment as stockpiled (STO), composted (COM) and covered (COV) heaps for 130?days, and total C and N losses were estimated. Thereafter, patterns of DM and N disappearance from FRE, COM and COV manures were monitored using litterbags with three mesh sizes (45???m, 1?mm and 4?mm). Herbage ANR from these manures was measured at application rates of 200, 400 and 600?kg?N?ha?1. During the storage period, only about 10?% of the initial Ntotal was lost from the COV heap, whereas these losses were 31?% from the STO heap and 46?% from the COM heap. The respective Ctotal losses were 17, 59 and 67?%. After field placement, overall manure DM and N disappearance rates from all mesh sizes of the litterbags were in the order: COV?>?FRE?>?COM (P?<?0.05). Independent of N application rate, total herbage ANR was the highest from COV and the lowest from COM manure over two growing seasons (23 vs. 14?%; P?<?0.05). Including the N losses during storage, an almost three times higher herbage ANR (20 vs. 7?%) of the manure N taken from the barn was observed by using COV versus COM manure. In case of FRE manure this ANR fraction was 17?%. It is concluded that COV storage reduced storage C and N losses to a minimum. After field application, manure stored under this method decomposed faster and more N was available for plant uptake, especially when compared to COM manure. 相似文献

Nonionic surfactants are capable of forming nano‐range vesicles upon self‐assembling in an aqueous medium. These vesicles are highly stable, low in toxicity, and cost‐effective. Owing to their ability to solubilize both hydrophilic and hydrophobic substances, they are of great interest for drug solubilization and delivery. This study describes the synthesis and characterization of two new nonionic surfactants and their screening for biocompatibility and drug loading potentials in nano‐scale niosomal vesicles. They were characterized through mass spectroscopy, 1HNMR, and FT‐IR. Their critical micelle concentration (CMC) was investigated using UV–vis spectrophotometry. The biocompatibility study was carried out through blood hemolysis and in vitro cytotoxicity assays. The surfactants have very low CMC values, are highly hemo‐compatible, and were nontoxic when tested against a cell culture. They were able to form nano‐range niosomal vesicles with large variation in their size. Both new surfactants were able to encapsulate increased amounts of the drug, in this case clarithromycin. The chemical nature of the drug remained intact in the niosomal vesicles. The results suggest that these nonionic surfactants could be promising drug delivery vehicles. 相似文献

Conventional approaches of regulating natural biochemical and biological processes are greatly hampered by the complexity of natural systems. Therefore, current biotechnological research is focused on improving biological systems and processes using advanced technologies such as genetic and metabolic engineering. These technologies, which employ principles of synthetic and systems biology, are greatly motivated by the diversity of living organisms to improve biological processes and allow the manipulation and reprogramming of target bioreactions and cellular systems. This review describes recent developments in cell biology, as well as genetic and metabolic engineering, and their role in enhancing biological processes. In particular, we illustrate recent advancements in genetic and metabolic engineering with respect to the production of bacterial cellulose (BC) using the model systems Gluconacetobacter xylinum and Gluconacetobacter hansenii. Besides, the cell-free enzyme system, representing the latest engineering strategies, has been comprehensively described. The content covered in the current review will lead readers to get an insight into developing novel metabolic pathways and engineering novel strains for enhanced production of BC and other bioproducts formation. 相似文献
