Oxygenated fuels increase fuel consumption due to their low enthalpy of combustion; however, their high antiknock index renders them suitable for use in engines with a high compression rate, increasing their thermal yield. This study evaluated the performance of biorenewable oxygenated fuels (ethanol and isoamyl alcohol) and partially renewable fuels (ETBE: ethyl tert-butyl ether, TAEE: tert-amyl ethyl ether and di-TAE: di-tert-amyl ether) with high degree of purity and in mixtures with automotive gasoline, based on tests with Otto cycle engines. Among the oxygenated fuels evaluated here, di-TAE was found to present the best characteristics of performance, both individually and in mixtures with gasoline.  相似文献

The NIST 0:45 reflectometer measures the spectral reflectance factor at an influx angle of 0° and an efflux angle of 45° of colored, nonfluorescent specimens at room temperature, with widths ranging from 3 to 10 cm and heights from 3 to 20 cm and with an uncertainty of less than 0.5 in color difference units. Carbon based multilayer systems for highly loaded forming tools Amorphous hydrogenated carbon (metal‐free a‐C:H and metal‐containing a‐C:H:Me) films respond very sensitively to local overloads. For example during forming tool operations, hard abrasive particles and locally high stresses on the coating surface can cause crack initiation and early coating failure. Compared to the high hardness, wear resistance and excellent friction properties, in many cases the adhesion of a‐C:H films is relatively insufficient. Adhesion and overload resistance of a‐C:H and a‐C:H:Me, prepared by reactive sputtering, can be influenced in a wide range by different interlayer systems. In the present report the wear mechanism of amorphous carbon coatings and the influence of different metallic, metal nitride and metal carbide interlayers on the growth structure, the adhesion and the load resistance will be reported. Two well adapted multi‐coating systems, successfully tested for highly loaded tools and components, will be presented.  相似文献

The expansion of trinucleotide repeat sequences has now been shown to be the underlying cause of at least ten human disorders. Unifying features among these diseases include the unstable behavior of the triplet repeat during germline transmission when the length of the repeat exceeds a critical value. However, the trinucleotide repeat disorders can be divided into two distinct groups. Type I disorders involve the expansion of CAG repeats, which encode an expanded polyglutamine, inserted into the open-reading frame of a gene that is usually quite broadly expressed. Recently, mouse models for type I disorders have been developed and the basis of pathology is under study, both in these models and through biochemical and cell biological approaches. The type II disorders involve repeat expansions in noncoding regions of genes. The mechanisms by which these repeat expansions lead to pathology may be quite diverse.  相似文献

Combinations of EDTA-Tris and two aminoglycoside antibiotics (amikacin and neomycin) were tested for synergistic activities against the microorganisms associated with otitis externa in dogs and for the solutions' stability over time. Synergistic activity was observed when EDTA-Tris plus amikacin and EDTA-Tris plus neomycin were tested against Staphylococcus intermedius, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli, but not against Candida albicans. Stability studies over a 3-month period indicated that the test solutions were stable at room temperature and that their antimicrobial activity was maintained.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to serially evaluate the response and variability of the end-systolic pressure-volume relation, the left ventricular end-diastolic volume-peak positive first derivative of left ventricular pressure (dP/dt) relation and the left ventricular end-diastolic volume-stroke work relation in the development of progressive left ventricular dysfunction. BACKGROUND: Evaluation of systolic performance of the failing left ventricle may be enhanced by using relatively load-insensitive measures of left ventricular performance. The end-systolic pressure-volume, left ventricular end-diastolic volume-peak positive dP/dt and left ventricular end-diastolic volume-stroke work relations adequately define left ventricular performance under multiple loading conditions, but efficacy has not been fully assessed in the failing heart, particularly in the intact circulation. METHODS: Fourteen dogs underwent instrumentation and rapid pacing to heart failure. Variably loaded pressure-volume beats were produced by inferior vena cava occlusion. The dogs were evaluated at baseline and at three progressively more severe levels of left ventricular dysfunction. RESULTS: There was a progressive increase in left ventricular volumes at end-diastole ([mean value +/- SE] 60 +/- 28 to 73 +/- 29 ml, p < 0.001) and end-systole (39 +/- 19 to 61 +/- 27 ml, p < 0.001) during the 3 weeks of rapid pacing and a progressive decline in peak positive dP/dt (1,631 +/- 410 to 993 +/- 222 mm Hg/s, p < 0.001) and ejection fraction (37 +/- 8% to 16 +/- 11%, p < 0.001). There was a corresponding decline in the slope of each of the three relations: for end-systolic pressure-volume, 6.3 +/- 2.2 to 2.8 +/- 0.7 (p < 0.05); for left ventricular end-diastolic volume-stroke work, 61.9 +/- 9.1 to 26.5 +/- 2.4 (p < 0.05); and for left ventricular end-diastolic volume-peak positive dP/dt, 47.1 +/- 13.6 to 20.31 +/- 6.8 (p < 0.05). There was also a corresponding increase in position volumes: for end-systolic pressure-volume, 33.6 +/- 3.9 to 61.2 +/- 6.6 ml (p < 0.05); for left ventricular end-diastolic volume-stroke work, 46.2 +/- 3.6 to 89.3 +/- 7.6 ml (p < 0.05); and for left ventricular end-diastolic volume-peak positive dP/dt, 29.1 +/- 19.1 to 68.6 +/- 25.9 ml (p < 0.05). The relative degree of change in each of the three relations was similar as more severe heart failure developed. The coefficients of variation for position were significantly less than the variation for slopes. The response of volume intercepts was heterogeneous. For left ventricular end-diastolic volume-stroke work, the intercept increased as ventricular performance decreased. The intercept of the end-systolic pressure-volume relation was significantly more variable than the left ventricular end-diastolic volume-stroke work relation and did not change with progressive heart failure. The intercept for left ventricular end-diastolic volume-peak positive dP/dt was highly variable and showed no consistent changes as left ventricular function declined. CONCLUSIONS: All three relations consistently describe changes in left ventricular performance brought about by tachypacing. Evolution of left ventricular dysfunction causes a decline in slope and a rightward shift of these relations. The position of the relation is the most sensitive and least variable indicator of left ventricular systolic performance.  相似文献

A variety of morphological types of dentate gyrus/hilus interneurons have been described, but little is known about their corresponding physiological characteristics. To address this issue, intracellular responses to current injection and perforant path stimulation were obtained from putative dentate interneurons in anaesthetized adult gerbils. Our sample of interneurons showed heterogeneity in their intrinsic physiological characteristics and spike thresholds to perforant path stimulation, suggesting the existence of distinct physiologically-defined classes. 'Fast-spiking' interneurons had a low threshold to perforant path stimulation, whereas 'slow-spiking' interneurons responded with predominantly inhibitory potentials. In several cases, cells were intracellularly labelled with biocytin for visualization. Interneurons with different physiological traits had distinct morphological features. These results confirm that, as in hippocampus proper, morphologically identifiable interneurons in the dentate hilus show electrophysiological features that are likely to reflect functionally specific roles in informational processing.  相似文献

Numerous investigators have suggested that cell glycoconjugates are modified by the development of cancer and the progression of this to a malignant form. Accordingly, in the present work, beta-D-galactosidase, alpha-L-fucosidase, beta-N-acetyl-D-glucosaminidase and beta-N-acetyl-D-galactosaminidase activities were studied in human thyroid and gastric tumours. Samples were obtained from human gastric mucosa and thyroid gland tumours together with a part of the surrounding normal tissue (control). Enzyme activity was determined spectrophotometrically based on the release of p-nitrophenol from suitable p-nitrophenyl-derivative substrates. Results showed that beta-D-galactosidase, alpha-L-fucosidase, beta-N-acetyl-D-glucosaminidase and beta-N-acetyl-D-galactosaminidase activities were detected in tumour and control samples from thyroid and gastric tissues. The gastric mucosa also showed alpha-L-mannosidase activity. The specific activities of these glycosidases were higher (two- or three-fold) in tumour tissues as compared with their controls. beta-D-galactosidase, beta-N-acetyl-D-glucosaminidase and beta-N-acetyl-D-galactosaminidase activities from thyroid and gastric tumours showed a significant increase in V(max) as compared with their respective controls (P < 0.05 or P < 0.001). Thyroid alpha-L-fucosidase activity showed a statistically and significantly increased affinity (lower K(m)) in tumour samples as compared to normal tissue. In conclusion both gastric and thyroid tumours showed enhanced glycosidase activity as compared with enzyme activity observed in normal tissue. These results are in agreement with the notion of a markedly raised degradation within lysosomes of tumour cells.  相似文献

We describe the design and operation of a new high-pressure metal ebulliometer which can operate at pressures to at least 3 MPa in the range 220–400 K. Infinite-dilution activity coefficients are presented for the system CHF2Cl + CF3-CH, at 275 K and for the system CF3-CH2F + CH2F2, at 260, 230, and 300 K. The Wilson activity coellicient model and a virial coefficient model are applied to these systems, and the phase equilibrium conditions are calculated. The results are shown to agree well with predicted and with published measured values. The excess enthalpy is calculated and compared with results from a Peng Robinson equation of state. Vapor densities on the dew curves are given.  相似文献
