Proteolytic Degradation of Threadfin-Bream Meat Gel

The textural degradation of threadfin-bream meat gel accompanying the breakdown of the myosin heavy chain was caused not by a heat-stable alkaline proteinase (HAP) but by a newly found gel degradation-inducing factor (GIF). GIF as well as HAP was recovered in the sarcoplasmic fraction, but GIF was separated from HAP by gel filtration on Ultrogel AcA 34. This factor showed strong proteolytic activity against the myosin heavy chain at pH 7.0 in the presence of 2.5% NaCl.     

Realization of new mutually coupled circuits using mutators

A method for realizing new mutually coupled circuits by using mutators is described. Various types of mutually coupled circuits, such as a mutual inductance, a mutual frequency-dependent negative resistance, and a frequency-dependent negative inductance, are realized by connecting a network between two mutators which have the suitable transmission matrix. New mutually coupled circuits composed of three impedances of different kinds, that is, two self-impedances and one mutually impedance, are also described. The theoretical frequency responses of the transfer functions of coupled tuned circuits composed of these mutually coupled circuits are shown, and experimental results of a coupled tuned circuit using mutual inductance are shown.     

Comprehensive evaluation of new urban transportation systems by AHP

Many different kinds of transportation systems such as ‘group rapid transit’, etc., have recently been presented as ideal urban public transportation systems. When planning to introduce such a new transportation system into a city, it is necessary to select the most desirable system for that city from those that have been proposed. The comprehensive evaluation of transportation systems must reflect various aspects such as the costs of construction and maintenance and the viewpoints or both the system users and the local inhabitants. This makes it one of the most difficult and yet vitally important problems in public transportation planning. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) developed by T. L Saaty is straightforward and has the feature that it can deal with both qualitative and quantitative factors at the same time, and it is suitable for applying to complex evaluation problems, In this paper, three transportation systems are proposed for one of the newly planned towns in Kansai Cultural and Academic Research Complexes, and a comprehensive evaluation of these systems is performed by applying the AHP. It has been proved through the process of evaluation that information which is very useful in reaching a consensus for choosing a system can be obtained.     

Realization of all-pass and notch filters using a single current conveyor

A novel network for realizing an all-pass transfer function using a single current conveyor is proposed. The network has high input impedance, this permits to use the networks in cascade without any requiring impedance matching device. By tuning a resistor, the network also realizes a notch filter.

Comparative Studies on the α and α-Phosvitin from Hen's Egg Yolk

Physico-chemical properties of α and β-phosvitin were compared. Considerable difference was observed in amino acid composition. Higher concentrations of carbohydrates were found in the β-component than in α. The α-phosvitin was more precipitable with lo-15 mM Ca ion than β. Phosvitin was so heat resistant that no change was observed on electropherogram by heating below 100°C for 10 min, and no coagulation occurred up to 140°C. About 12% of the phosphorus was liberated from whole phosvitin by heating at 140°C for 10 min. All preparations of phosvitin isolated from six individual eggs and mixed yolk of 57 eggs contained the two components.     

Cholesterol Lowering Activity of Ropy Fermented Milk

The effect of ropy fermented milk on serum cholesterol in rats was studied. Basic diets containing slime-forming Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris SBT 0495, its non slime-forming variant SBT 1275, and acidified reconstituted skim milk, with 0.5% cholesterol added, were fed to F-344 rats for 7 days. Serum cholesterol level of rats fed the ropy fermented milk were the lowest among the three treatments. The serum high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol/total cholesterol ratio of rats fed ropy fermented milk was the highest. Slime materials produced by L. lactis subsp. cremoris SBT 0495 had a beneficial effect on rat cholesterol metabolism.
