When the excited triplet states of disperse azo dyes with nitro groups abstract hydrogen to generate hydrazinyl (from azo groups) and nitrosyl hydroxide radicals (from nitro groups), both the radicals as H‐acceptors carry out azo scission, conversion to nitrogen dioxide via disproportionation reactions and self‐decomposition via rearrangement. A kinetic equation was formulated by the sum of these reactions, which describes the initial rates (KPA) of reductive fading. The KPA values were controlled by the rate constants of the reactions of hydrazinyl and nitrosyl hydroxide radicals as H‐acceptors, which were estimated by thermochemical analyses of the reactants, intermediates and end products using the semiempirical molecular orbital PM5 method, and by the concentrations of the reactants: H‐acceptors and H‐donors. The KPA values observed for 12 dyes were explained semi‐quantitatively by multiple routes of reactions depending upon to what extent each radical reaction was thermochemically favoured. 相似文献

This study was performed to investigate the heat extraction characteristics from shallow geothermal resources using a coaxial heat exchanger. First, a computer simulation program for a coaxial heat exchanger was checked and verified by laboratory experiments. After inspecting the effectiveness of the computer program described herein, a numerical simulation for a real scale model was conducted under the condition that the heat transfer mechanism in the stratum was heat conduction. Unsteady heat extraction characteristics are presented herein, and the effects of the tube material, inner diameter, and circular modes on the heat extraction rate are discussed. From the computer results it was found that the heat extraction performance using a coaxial heat exchanger greatly depended on the factors mentioned above in the range of the parameters covered in this study. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Synchrotron X-ray radiography at 125 frames per second was used to study deformation mechanisms in semi-solid Fe-C alloys at high solid fraction and shear strain rates of 10?1/s. An image correlation approach was also used to quantify the shear strain fields and study shear-induced dilation and the origin of shear cracking. It was shown that, at high solid fraction (90 to 93 pct solid), rearrangement including rotation and translation of solid particles became restricted and shear strain localized into narrow liquid-filled channels/fissures. Shear cracking was shown to originate from inadequate liquid flow into the expanding spaces between solid particles caused by shear-induced dilation. At lower solid fraction (~85 pct solid), solid particles rearranged with a significantly higher component of rotation leading to more shear-induced dilation and a wider shear band. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Pervaporation employing ethanol‐permselective silicalite membranes as an alternative to distillation is a promising approach for refining low‐concentration bioethanol solutions. However, to make the separation process practicable, it is extremely important to avoid the problems caused by the adsorption of succinate on the membrane during the separation process. In this work, the pervaporation of an ethanol fermentation broth without succinate was investigated, as well as the influence of several fermentation broth nutrient components. RESULTS: Candida krusei IA‐1 produces an extremely low level of succinate. The decrease in permeate ethanol concentration through a silicone rubber‐coated silicalite membrane during the separation of low‐succinate C. krusei IA‐1 fermentation broth was significantly improved when compared with that obtained using Saccharomyces cerevisiae broth. By treating the fermentation broth with activated carbon, bioethanol was concentrated as efficiently as with binary mixtures of ethanol/water. The total flux was improved upto 56% of that obtained from the separation of binary mixtures, compared with 43% before the addition of activated carbon. Nutrients such as peptone, yeast extract and corn steep liquor had a negative effect on pervaporation, but this response was distinct from that caused by succinate. CONCLUSION: For consistent separation of bioethanol from C. krusei IA‐1 fermentation broth by pervaporation, it is useful to treat the low nutrient broth with activated carbon. Three commercial kudzu starches from Vietnam, Japan and Korea were used to determine chemical compositions, isoflavone compounds, fine structure and physicochemical properties. The kudzu starch from Vietnam had polygonal granules, whereas the kudzu starches from Japan and Korea contained both polygonal and spherical granules. Total protein, lipid, ash and phosphorus contents present in these kudzu starches were less than 1% (starch basis). The kudzu starch from Vietnam and Korea contained both daidzein and daidzin, whereas the kudzu starch from Japan had only daidzein. These starches had similar actual amylose contents (22.2–22.9%). However, λmax, blue value and apparent amylose contents of the kudzu starch from Vietnam were lower than those from Japan and Korea. Amylose molecules of the kudzu starch from Vietnam had the largest average degree of polymerization (DPn) and number of chains (NC), followed by the kudzu starches from Japan and Korea. Amylopectin molecules of the kudzu starch from Vietnam also had the largest DPn and NC, followed by the kudzu starches from Korea and Japan. X-ray diffraction patterns of the kudzu starches from Vietnam, Japan and Korea were A-type, C-type and B-type, respectively. The kudzu starch from Vietnam was found to have the specific characteristics such as significantly high gelatinization temperature, transition enthalpy and degree of crystallinity as compared to the kudzu starch from Korea and Japan. 相似文献

We retrospectively reviewed 11 patients with culture-proven Acanthamoeba keratitis who presented at the National Taiwan University Hospital between 1989 and 1996. We assessed predisposing factors, initial diagnosis, clinical presentation, treatment, and outcome. A history of contact lens-wear, poor contact lens hygiene, intractable eye pain, and ring infiltrates in the cornea were the most prominent characteristics and clinical manifestations. Acanthamoeba keratitis was often misdiagnosed, with herpetic keratitis (7/11) being the most common initial diagnosis from referring hospitals. These patients were usually treated on the basis of the inaccurate diagnosis for more than 1 month (range 1-8 mo) before referral. All patients ultimately received penetrating keratoplasty because of poor response to delayed medical treatment. We suggest that inadequate contact lens hygiene may be important in Acanthamoeba keratitis. This condition is often misdiagnosed and, as early diagnosis is a major factor for successful medical treatment in such patients, awareness in clinical practice is critical. 相似文献

Critical heat flux (CHF) in nucleate pool boiling of binary mixtures was newly measured with a horizontal platinum wire, 0.5 mm in diameter, and heated by DC, over the full range of concentrations. Seven mixtures were selected with the intent to cover various types of mixtures: methanol/water, ethanol/water, methanol/ethanol, ethanol/n-butanol, methanol/benzene, benzene/n-heptane and water/ethylene glycol, each in the saturated state at atmospheric pressure. Total 311 raw CHF data were obtained at 75 concentrations including pure components.Aqueous mixtures of methanol and ethanol revealed significant increase of CHF compared to either CHF linearly interpolated between pure components or CHF predicted from a single component correlation with use of the mixture properties. Three organic mixtures showed more or less the same level as an interpolated CHF, while the remaining two mixtures of methanol/benzene and water/ethylene glycol gave the reduced CHF by 20% and 50% at most, respectively. Marangoni number was introduced as a controlling variable to explain the observed increased, invariable, or reduced CHF, and an empirical correlation was developed. 相似文献

An objective of the present paper is to experimentally clarify the torsion effect on the flow in helical circular pipes. We have made six helical circular pipes having different pitches and common non-dimensional curvature δ of about 0.1. The torsion parameter β0, which is defined by β0 = τ/(2δ)1/2 with non-dimensional torsion r, are taken to be 0.02, 0.45, 0.69, 1.01, 1.38 and 1.89 covering from small to very large pitch. The velocity distributions and the turbulence of the flow are measured using an X-type hot-wire anemometer in the range of the Reynolds number from 200 to 20000. The results obtained are summarized as follows: The mean secondary flow pattern in a cross section of the pipe changes from an ordinary twin-vortex type as is seen in a curved pipe without torsion (toroidal pipe) to a single vortex type after one of the twin-vortex gradually disappears as β0 increases. The circulation direction of the single vortex is the same as the direction of torsion of the pipe. The mean velocity distribution of the axial flow is similar to that of the toroidal pipe at small β0, but changes its shape as β0 increases, and attains the shape similar to that in a straight circular pipe when ,β0 = 1.89. It is also found that the critical Reynolds number, at which the flow shows a marginal behavior to turbulence, decreases as ,β0 increases for small ,β0, and then increases after taking a minimum at ,β0 ≈ 1.4 as ,β0 increases.
