The theory that adolescence is universally a time of emotional turmoil has been disproved, yet research indicates higher rates of negative affect among adolescents than preadolescents. This study evaluates the relationship of distressed affect in early adolescence to the experience of stressful life events. 483 5th–9th graders provided experience sampling reports on their daily emotional states; data on recent major events in the child's life were obtained from the child and a parent. Findings indicate that older students in this age range encountered more negative events than younger ones, including more peer, school, and family events, and that experience of multiple negative events had a stronger association with daily negative affect among the older students. These findings suggest that the higher rates of daily distress experienced in adolescence may be partly attributable to the greater number of negative life events encountered by some youths. This paper reports on the bipedal robot Lucy which is actuated by pleated pneumatic artificial muscles. This novel actuator is very suitable to be used in machines which move by means of legs. Besides its high power to weight ratio the actuator has an adaptable passive behavior, meaning the stiffness of the actuator can be changed on-line. This allows to change the natural frequency of the system while controlling angular joint positions. The main control concept intended for Lucy is joint trajectory control while selecting appropriate actuator compliance characteristics in order to reduce control efforts and energy consumption which is of great importance towards the autonomy of legged robots. Presently Lucy has made her first steps with the implementation of basic control strategies.The pleated pneumatic artificial muscle and its characteristics will be discussed briefly and the design of Lucy which is made modular on mechanical as well as electronic hardware level will be described in detail. To pressurize the muscles, a lightweight valve system has been developed which will be presented together with the fundamental control aspects of a joint actuated with two antagonistically setup artificial muscles. Pellets pressed from sponge palladium powder were sintered both isothermally and with constant heating rates using a precision low force dilatometer. Computer analysis of the data is used to determine shrinkage and shrinkage rate behavior during the sintering operation. The data are used in conjunction with metallographic examination to correlate the shrinkage phenomena to the change in grain size and pore morphology. The results show a characteristic shrinkage rate behavior associated with grain growth during sintering which can effectively halt densification.  相似文献

A gene encoding human intestinal maltase (HMA) was successfully expressed in Pichia pastoris under the control of the methanol-induced alcohol oxidase (AOX1) promoter. The secreted recombinant HMA fused with a His6-tag was produced (150 U/L) and was easily purified from culture supernatants in a 3-step diafiltration, ultrafiltration, and affinity column chromatography protocol. The specific activity of the purified HMA was 16.8 U/mg. Endoglycosidase H digestion of the protein showed that the recombinant HMA was N-glycosylated. The purified HMA was maximally active at pH 6.5 and stable (≥90%) up to 65°C. The kinetic parameters K m and V max were 3.3±0.25 mM maltose and 61.9±2 U/mg, respectively.  相似文献

A simple and economic chemical spray pyrolysis method is used to prepare transparent and conducting boron-doped zinc oxide (BnZnO) electrode having potential applications in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The BnZnO electrodes were critically characterized for their structural, morphological and electrical properties. The BnZnO electrode with 2 at% boron doping showed average grain size of 20(±1) nm, surface roughness of 9 nm, ?95% transparency and resistivity of 4.5×10−3 Ω cm−1. Furthermore, doping concentration of boron could also be easily controlled for achieving desired properties. Using this electrode as a substrate in DSSCs, the solar-to-electrical conversion efficiency with N3 dye as a sensitizer was noted to be 1.53%. This work suggests that the BnZnO electrodes could be used as promising alternative to presently used indium- or fluorine-doped tin oxide as substrates.  相似文献

The ethyl acetate extract from Adenophora triphylla root (ATea) had strong antioxidant effect. We hypothesised that a high fat (HF) diet might induce oxidative stress and so, dietary antioxidant may have beneficial effects on hypercholesterolaemia, but the underlying mechanisms involved are not fully understood. To test this hypothesis, C57BL/6 mice were fed with HF diet for 9 weeks. In the last 4 weeks, the HF diet was supplemented with 0, 25 or 75 mg/kg ATea. ATea decreased body weight gain and both ATea doses significantly reduced the plasma and hepatic cholesterol levels of the obese mice. Analysis of the hepatic expression of proteins known to play important roles in cholesterol metabolism indicated that ATea significantly enhanced low density lipoprotein receptor (LDL receptor) and cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase (CYP7A1) expression but inhibited the 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl–CoA reductase (HMG–CoA reductase) expression in HepG2 cells and mice. No mutagenic activity was observed at high doses of ATea.  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the antibacterial activity of calcium oxide (CaO), sonication, and their combination against foodborne pathogens on several fresh produce. The results showed that combined treatment inhibited Escherichia coli O157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes, and Salmonella Typhimurium on fresh produce. However, the effectiveness of treatments for reducing populations of foodborne pathogens varied depending on the types and condition of the fresh produce. This study demonstrated that the antibacterial potency of CaO and its application with sonication could be one of alternatives for controlling foodborne pathogens on fresh produce.  相似文献

This study was performed to characterize pear protease proteolytic activity and investigate the use of pear protease as a meat tenderizer. Pear protease was purified and stabilized by 5% dextrin during lyophilization (dry) or concentration (liquid). Pear protease was further characterized with respect to pH, thermodynamics, and enzyme kinetics. Pear protease was stable at a pH range of 5-8 with an optimum pH of 6.5. From Arrhenius plots, liquid protease showed higher temperature dependency (23.49 kJ/mol) than dry protease (18.62 kJ/mol) due to its higher activation energy. The kcat/Km, catalytic efficiency of enzyme, was similar with 2.9 and 2.7 µM/min with dry and liquid proteases. Pear protease was evaluated for its proteolytic activities with casein and beef myofibrillar proteins by individually and combination with fig and kiwifruit proteases. These result indicated that pear and kiwifruit proteases could be complementary to be a desirable product for meat tenderization.  相似文献

Rice is an important agricultural commodity and a major staple food in Asian diets. The aims of this study were to investigate the antioxidant activities and phytochemical contents of methanolic extracts from specialty rice cultivars and to determine if there is any correlation between antioxidant activity and phytochemical content. Our results indicate that methanolic extracts from different rice cultivars contain different levels of phenolics, anthocyanin, carotenoids, γ-oryzanol, and vitamin E. Black rice cultivars such as ‘Heugkwang’, ‘Heugseol’, and ‘Heugjinju’ contained higher phytochemical contents compared to other cultivars. In contrast, the cultivars ‘Segyejinmi’, ‘Cheonseok’, ‘Hanareum’, and ‘Dasan 1’ contained significantly higher levels of γ-tocotrienol compared with other cultivars. The black rice cultivars also showed higher antioxidant activities. Phenolic content was positively correlated with DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities and reducing power. The results could have a direct impact on rice consumption by enhancing consumer awareness of health benefits of the rice.  相似文献
