In this research, tensile and flexural performance of tri layer oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB)/woven jute (Jw) fibre reinforced epoxy hybrid composites subjected to layering pattern has been experimentally investigated. Sandwich composites were fabricated by hand lay-up technique in a mould and cured with 105 °C temperatures for 1 h by using hot press. Pure EFB and woven jute composites were also fabricate for comparison purpose. Results showed that tensile and flexural properties of pure EFB composite can be improved by hybridization with woven jute fibre as extreme woven jute fibre mat. It was found that tensile and flexural properties of hybrid composite is higher than that of EFB composite but less than woven jute composite. Statistical analysis of composites done by ANOVA-one way, it showed significant differences between the results obtained. The fracture surface morphology of the tensile samples of the hybrid composites was performed by using scanning electron microscopy. 相似文献

The use of PV/T in combination with concentrating reflectors has a potential to significantly increase power production from a given solar cell area. A prototype double-pass photovoltaic-thermal solar air collector with CPC and fins has been designed and fabricated and its performance over a range of operating conditions was studied. The absorber of the hybrid photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) collector under investigation consists of an array of solar cells for generating electricity, compound parabolic concentrator (CPC) to increase the radiation intensity falling on the solar cells and fins attached to the back side of the absorber plate to improve heat transfer to the flowing air. Energy balance equations have been developed for the various nodes of the system. Both thermal and electrical performance of the collector are presented and discussed. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: The etiology of retinal venous occlusion in young patients is not well understood although thrombosis does occur histologically. A search for the risk factors that may lead to thrombosis is highly desirable may contribute to our understanding of the pathogenesis of this complication and may improve our therapeutic strategies. METHODS: We studied 17 patients with retinal venous occlusion. All patients were under 45 years of age (mean 37.8 +/- 7.1). Antiphospholipid antibodies (APAs) and certain hemostatic factors were determined. The results obtained in these patients were compared to those of normal controls. RESULTS: We found APAs in 8 out of 17 patients compared to 5 out of 60 controls (p = 0.0002). In patients with major trunk occlusion, there was a trend for the presence of APAs in those with poor visual acuity at presentation. Deficiencies of the coagulation inhibitor proteins C and S and antithrombin III activities were detected in 6 patients, and reduced levels of Factor XII were found in 4 patients. Levels of hematocrit, erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Fibrinogen, alpha 1-globulin, and alpha 2-globulin were significantly higher in patients compared to the controls (p = 0.019; 0.014; 0.0001; 0.011; 0.047), indicating increased blood viscosity in patients with retinal venous occlusion. CONCLUSION: Prothrombotic changes in the form of APAs and/or deficiencies of coagulation inhibitors and Factor XII may contribute to the etiology of retinal venous occlusion in young adults. Young patients with retinal venous occlusion should be evaluated for these prothrombotic states. 相似文献

This paper presents thermodynamic analysis of spark‐ignition engine. A theoretical model of Otto cycle, with a working fluid consisting of various gas mixtures, has been implemented. It is compared to those which use air as the working fluid with variable temperature specific heats. A wide range of engine parameters were studied, such as equivalence ratio, engine speed, maximum and outlet temperatures, brake mean effective pressure, gas pressure, and cycle thermal efficiency. For example, for the air model, the maximum temperature, brake mean effective pressure (BMEP), and efficiency were about 3000 K, 15 bar, and 32%, respectively, at 5000 rpm and 1.2 equivalence ratio. On the other hand, by using the gas mixture model under the same conditions, the maximum temperature, BMEP, and efficiency were about 2500 K, 13.7 bar, and 29%. However, for the air model, at lower engine speeds of 2000 rpm and equivalence ratio of 0.8, the maximum temperature, BMEP, and efficiency were about 2000 K, 8.7 bar, and 28%, respectively. Also, by using the gas mixture model under these conditions, the maximum temperature, BMEP, and efficiency were about 1900 K, 8.4 bar, and 27%, i.e. with insignificant differences. Therefore, it is more realistic to use gas mixture in cycle analysis instead of merely assuming air to be the working fluid, especially at high engine speeds. Summary Na-montmorillonite (MMT) with cation exchange capacity (CEC) of 90 mEq/100g was converted to MMT-CTAB and MMT-CPC forms by the intercalation of Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and Cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), respectively. The intercalation of these surfactants onto the basal space of the montmorillonite was evidenced by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and x-ray diffraction (XRD). The intercalation of the CPC expanded the basal space from 12.19 Ao to 21.47 Ao while in case of CTAB it was expanded to 19.35 Ao only. The (MMT-CPC) was subsequently used as a host for the preparation of PMMA nanocomposites via intercalative suspension and emulsion polymerization of methylmethacrylate (MMA) using benzoyl peroxide (BPO) and potassium persulphate (PPS) individually and simultaneously. The use of BPO and PPS together invoked better exfoliation but the yield did not change appreciably in comparison with using either of the initiators alone. Different structures were obtained with the variation of the preparation conditions; exfoliated and intercalated nanocomposites which were characterized by XRD, transmission electron microscope (TEM), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The resultant nanocomposites exhibited improved thermal stability relative to the equivalent macrocomposites. No glass transition temperature (Tg) could be detected for the prepared nanocomposites which was assumed to result from the restricted molecular motion of the polymer chains. 相似文献

A case of intrascrotal atypical leiomyoma is reported. This lesion is extremely rare and usually misdiagnosed. Microscopically, contain bizarre and pleomorphic tumor cells, as well as showed immunohistochemical evidence of smooth muscle differentiation. Falls are the most common type of injury among the elderly, and the source of both functional and psychological morbidity. The aim of this study was to validate the Elderly Fall Screening Test (EFST). In a community primary-care clinic, the members 60 years or older who were functionally independent were screened. Of the 568 elderly persons who met these criteria, 361 were interviewed once and 283 persons were re-interviewed a year later. The EFST, a five-item test, was used to divide participants into low- and high-risk groups. Concurrent criterion validity was assessed by physical examinations conducted by physicians who were blind as to the risk designation. Using data from the follow-up interview, predictive validity was assessed on both fall-related and general health measures. Based on the results of the EFST, 28% of the respondents were designated as being at high risk for falls (i.e. having a score of two or more risk items). The results of physicians' examinations corroborated the screening test results in 75% of the cases, with 83% sensitivity and 69% specificity. In the follow-up interview, the high-risk group, as compared to the low-risk group, was more likely to have high scores on EFST, a fall in the past month or year, frequent near falls, and an injurious fall. Those with high EFST scores were more likely to report four or more sick days in the past six months, a hospitalization in the past year, poor self-rated health, a decline in health in the past 6 months, and symptoms of depression. The EFST has both criterion and predictive validity. It can be useful in community-based prevention programmes with functionally independent elderly people. 相似文献

In this study processed mango juice was packed in four types of containers and stored at different temperatures for 16 weeks through which furfural level determination and organoleptic assessment were conducted. The experiment revealed an evident relationship to exist among furfural level, storage temperature and type of packing material. Furfural level failed to closely parallel flavour difference; therefore it could be regarded as one of the features concomitant juice aging rather than accepted as a satisfactory criterion of off flavour. The performance of H‐ZSM‐5‐supported bimetallic catalysts with chromium as the base metal in the combustion of ethyl acetate and benzene is reported. A reactor operated from 100 to 500 °C at a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 32 000 h?1 was used for study of the activity. A combination of 1.0 wt% chromium and 0.5 wt% copper yielded a catalyst (Cr1.0Cu0.5/Z) with improved conversion and carbon dioxide yield. Cr2O3 (Cr3+) and CuO (Cu2+) were the predominant metal species in the catalyst. In agreement with the Mars–van Krevelen model, improved reducibility of Cr3+ in the presence of Cu2+ led to an improvement in activity. The copper content in Cr1.0Cu0.5/Z also favored the formation of deep combustion products. Condensation and subsequent growth of coke precursors in the catalyst pores led to the formation of a softer and less aromatic coke fraction while dehydrogenation activity on acid sites formed a harder and more aromatic coke fraction. The use of Cr1.0Cu0.5/Z favored the formation of lower molecular weight intermediates, leading to reduction in formation of softer coke. Copyright © 2005 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

Dengue fever (DF) is an acute febrile viral disease frequently presented with headache, bone or joint and muscular pains, and rash. A significant percentage of DF patients develop a more severe form of disease, known as dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF). DHF is the complication of DF. The main pathophysiology of DHF is the development of plasma leakage from the capillary, resulting in haemoconcentration, ascites, and pleural effusion that may lead to shock following defervescence of fever. Therefore, accurate prediction of the day of defervescence of fever is critical for clinician to decide on patient management strategy. To date, no known literature describes of any attempt to predict the day of defervescence of fever in DF patients. This paper describes a non-invasive prediction system for predicting the day of defervescence of fever in dengue patients using artificial neural network. The developed system bases its prediction solely on the clinical symptoms and signs and uses the multilayer feed-forward neural networks (MFNN). The results show that the proposed system is able to predict the day of defervescence in dengue patients with 90% prediction accuracy. 相似文献
