Structure and mechanical properties of a nonmagnetic high-nitrogen corrosion-resistant 05Kh22AG15N8M2F cast steel produced by high-gradient directional solidification

The structure and properties of an austenitic high-nitrogen corrosion-resistant 05Kh22AG15N8M2F cast steel produced by high-gradient directional solidification (HGDS) and equiaxed-grain solidification (ES) have been studied and compared. In contrast to ES, HGDS allows one to substantially decrease the degree of dendritic segregation of alloying elements, to eliminate porosity, and to increase the strength and plasticity of the steel.     

Self-aligned diffusion technique for n-InP JFETs

A self-aligned diffusion process has been demonstrated in the fabrication of n-InP JFETs on semi-insulating InP. This process utilises the anisotropic and selective etching properties of InP/GaInAs materials. Using this technique, sub-micrometre gate lengths can be achieved even with conventional photolithography. Devices with trans-conductance of >35mS/mm, leakage current of < 10nA/mm and gate capacitance of <0.7pF/mm have been fabricated with a cutoff frequency of 7 GHz.

Proposed modification to the CIECAM02 colour appearance model to include the simultaneous contrast effects

A modified CIECAM02 colour appearance model, named CIECAM02‐m2, is proposed to enable CIECAM02 to predict the simultaneous contrast effect. The structure of the CIECAM02‐m2 is a development from CIECAM02, and contains two different procedures for modifying the reference white; one is for lightness and the other is for hue. The model was tested using a data set accumulated in this study and the LUTCHI data. The CV values for three colour attributes between predictions and experimental data were used to evaluate the accuracy of the model. The low CV values obtained show the performance of the CIECAM02‐m2 model to predict the simultaneous contrast effect satisfactorily. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Heat transfer in fluidized beds

State observability and condition observability for a class of interacting discrete event systems

This paper introduces the concepts of state observability and condition observability for condition systems, a class of systems composed of discrete state components which interact via discrete binary signals called conditions. Given a set of externally observed conditions, state observability implies that the state of the system can be determined from the observations, and condition observability implies that all unobserved input and output conditions of the system can be determined from the observations. In this paper, we present a class of systems which is state observable and condition observable. We present a method to synthesize an observer system to provide state and condition signal estimates for a single component subsystem.
