A new bioglass ceramic with composition of Na2O 12%, CaO 28%, P2O5 10% and SiO2 50% with a high bending strength (120–140 MPa) and compressive strength (600–750 MPa) was studied. The crystallized phases of-Ca2P2P7 and Na2Ca3Si6O16 were determined by X-ray diffraction. Optical microscopy of the material revealed that a very uniform crystal size of about 30 m was obtained with high nucleation frequency. The nucleation and crystallization processes were also investigated. The corrosion inhibition of cold rolled steel in 0.5 M sulphuric acid in the presence of o-phenanthroline and sodium chloride (NaCl) has been investigated by using weight loss and electrochemical techniques. The experimental data suggest that the inhibition efficiency increases with increasing NaCl concentration in the presence of 0.0002 M o-phenanthroline, but decreases with increasing temperature. A synergistic effect is observed when o-phenanthroline and chloride ions are used together to prevent cold rolled steel corrosion in 0.5 M sulphuric acid. The polarization curves showed that the complex of o-phenanthroline and NaCl acts as a mixed type inhibitor. The experimental results suggested that the presence of chloride ions in the solution stabilized the adsorption of o-phenanthroline molecules on the metal surface and improved the inhibition efficiency of o-phenanthroline. The adsorption of the complex accords with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Some thermodynamic parameters such as adsorption heat, adsorption entropy and adsorption free energy have been calculated by employing thermodynamic equations. We have examined the rheological properties of a Co-adsorbed γ-Fe2O3 magnetic suspension with polyurethane (PU) as a binder and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) or cyclohexanone (CH) as a solvent. A Haake RV20 viscometer was used to measure the suspension viscosity and the vane method was adopted to determine the fluid yield stress. A rheological model which can be viewed as a combination of the Casson model and the Bingham model is proposed to describe the suspension viscosity. This research investigated the influence of stearic acid on the injection molding of alumina, by varying the concentration of stearic acid. The interaction between stearic acid and alumina was identified using transmission infrared spectroscopy, indicating stearic acid preferentially adsorbed onto the alumina powder surface. In addition to slightly modifying the intrinsic binder viscosity, stearic acid adsorbed onto the powder surface changed the flow behavior of the mixtures from dilatant flow to pseudoplastic flow at low temperatures. As a result, inhomogeneous distribution of binder in the injection-molded parts was minimized with increased stearic acid concentration. However, the possibility of forming bubbles in the mixtures arising from vaporization of stearic acid was enhanced.
