Computer-aided design and analysis of direct-driven wheel motordrive

This paper presents the computer-aided design (CAD) and performance analysis of a novel direct-driven wheel brushless DC motor drive for electric vehicles (EVs). The proposed motor is a permanent magnet square-wave motor, whose rotor with rare earth magnets forms the exterior of the motor, which can be fitted with a wheel tire to realize the direct drive for each wheel of an EV. The interior stator with its windings is rigidly mounted onto the suspension and frame structure of the vehicle. In order to achieve the direct drive without any mechanical transmission for EVs, the wheel motor has been designed as a low-speed high-torque motor. The design and optimization of the motor geometry was achieved with the aid of finite-element electromagnetic field analysis. Simulation studies on the transient performance of the motor drive were also carried out. This involved the creation of the motor transient model and formulation of a motor control strategy to ensure the wheel motor drive runs efficiently in the entire permitted speed and load range. The application of CAD techniques in the design of this very unconventional drive is described in this paper     

Variations of physical properties in pellets containing alumina/carbon powder mixtures during reduction and nitridation

Surface area and porosity of pellets containing alumina/carbon powder mixtures during reduction and nitridation were determined. The experimental results indicated that surface area and porosity of solid samples were decreased by increasing the reaction temperature, grain size, forming pressure and the amount of catalyst. Increasing the molar ratio of C/Al₂O₃ and gas flow rate could decrease the surface area and increase the porosity of the solid sample.     

High-transconductance insulating-gate InP/InGaAs buried p-bufferDH-MODFETs grown by MOVPE

Buried p-buffer double heterostructure modulation-doped field-effect transistors (BP DH-MODFETs) with an InGaAs quantum-well channel were fabricated with high transconductance and good breakdown voltage, by placing the metal gate directly on Fe-doped InP insulating layer. Excellent extrinsic DC transconductance of 560 mS/mm and a high gate-to-drain diode breakdown voltage (greater than 20 V) were achieved at room temperature with FETs of 1.2-μm gate length. Unity currently gain cutoff frequency f_T of 24 GHz and maximum oscillation frequency f_max of 60 GHz were demonstrated for a drain to source voltage V_DS=4 V, which corresponds to an average electron velocity of 2.2×10⁷ cm/s in the quantum well

Growth inhibitory effect of juvenile hormone analogues on epimastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi

Several compounds, structurally related to the insect growth regulator Fenoxycarb, exhibited interesting inhibition action to control proliferation of Trypanosoma cruzi, the parasite responsible for Chagas' disease. Some of these drugs were shown to be potent growth inhibitors of this parasite. All of these drugs had previously presented juvenoid activity on several non-related bug species such as Tenebrio molitor, Galleria mellonella, Dysdercus cingulatos, and Pyrrhocoris apterus.
