This paper describes the role of pressurized electroosmotic dewatering (EOD) in a filter cycle. A laboratory-scale filter-press was used to filter a highly conductive silica suspension under constant pressure, followed by washing and mechanical precompression of the filter cake and finally by pressurized EOD at constant electric current. The influence of filter cycle parameters (filtration and washing pressure and duration, mechanical pressure, and electric field intensity) on the final cake dryness and energy consumption was studied. Electrodes of different materials, forms, and surfaces were used.
The optimal conditions of each filter cycle operation were found to minimize the energy consumption during EOD and maximize the cake dryness. With mechanical pressure and electric field intensity increasing, the total energy consumption increased, but the specific energy consumption (per kg of expressed water) decreased, and the final filter cake was dryer. The morphological and structural properties of sodium silicate (Na2O–SiO2) glasses were analyzed using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and light scattering following thermal treatments. AFM observations indicated that the glass surface microstructure evolves during the phase separation mechanisms from continuous interpenetrating phases in the spinodal decomposition process to separated droplets embedded in a continuous matrix for the nucleation/growth one. Raman mapping gave evidence of a phase separation through the nucleation/growth process with formation of silica‐rich clusters characterized by higher polymerization degree as separate droplets. The variations in inhomogeneities versus temperature investigated by Brillouin are exponential for spinodal decomposition and linear in the case of nucleation/growth mechanism. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy was used to investigate the spatial distribution of the various Qn species present in thermally treated glasses and allows determining fractal dimension between two and three. 相似文献

In this paper we present our results on the sintering of α alumina ceramics by hot isostatic pressing. It describes a simple method for obtaining precise relative density values on our almost 100% dense samples. Then, transparency results are discussed with respect to grain size and residual porosity measurements, comparing them to scattering calculations. Our results are not far from the best reported transmission values: almost 60% for a 1 mm thick sample. The other 40% diffuse light comes from the birefringence of alumina for the most part. However, they are transparent enough to see detailed structures at several kilometers through them. 相似文献

Spores of Bacillus sporothermodurans are known to be contaminant of dairy products and to be extremely heat-resistant. The induction of endospore germination before a heat treatment could be an efficient method to inactivate these bacteria and ensure milk stability. In this study, the nutrient-induced germination of B. sporothermodurans LTIS27 spores was studied. Testing the effect of 23 nutrient elements to trigger an important germination rate of B. sporothermodurans spores, only d-glucose, l-alanine, and inosine were considered as strong independent germinants. Both inosine and l-alanine play major roles as co-germinants with several other amino acids. A central composite experimental design with three factors (l-alanine, d-glucose, and temperature) using response surface methodology was used to optimize the nutrient-induced germination. The optimal rate of nutrient-induced germination (100%) of B. sporothermodurans spores was obtained after incubation of spore for 60 min at 35 °C in presence of 9 and 60 mM of d-glucose and l-alanine, respectively. The results in this study can help to predict the effect of environmental factors and nutrients on spore germination, which will be beneficial for screening of B. sporothermodurans in milk after induction their germination. Moreover, the chosen method of optimization of the nutrient-induced germination was efficient in finding the optimum values of three factors. 相似文献

Whistling behavior of two geometrically periodic systems are investigated: corrugated pipes and a multiple side branch system. In both systems frequency (Helmholtz number) is a non-decreasing piecewise constant function of the Mach number, whose increase on average is approximately linear. The plateaus, lock-in frequencies, of this piecewise constant function correspond to the longitudinal acoustic pipe modes. In both systems pressure fluctuation amplitude changes non-monotonically with Mach number with local maxima that correspond to the lock-in frequencies. A characteristic length, equal to cavity width plus upstream edge radius, yields the smallest discrepancy in the measured peak whistling Strouhal number for both corrugated pipes and multiple side branch system. For both systems the upstream edge radius of the cavity has a strong effect on pressure fluctuation amplitudes. Whistling amplitudes increase by a factor of 3-5 upon rounding off the upstream cavity edges. The radius of the downstream edge has a less pronounced effect on the sound amplitude and frequency. The geometric parameters of the multiple side branch system can easily be modified. This makes the multiple side branch system a convenient tool for making experiments on the effects of various geometric parameters. A number of aspects are addressed with the multiple side branch system such as the effect of pipe termination geometry, source localization, side branch depth to diameter ratio, a gradient in depth along the pipe and hysteresis upon change in the acceleration or deceleration of the flow. 相似文献

Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae suspensions were submitted to controlled shear stress. Above a threshold value shear stress induced a decrease in micro‐organism viability. The threshold of shear stress efficiency depended on the micro‐organisms, being between 1292 Pa and 2770 Pa for S cerevisiae, and about 1250 Pa for E coli. Above 1810 Pa, E coli cells were disrupted whereas the S cerevisiae cells remained intact. The higher the cellular concentration, the greater the rate of decrease in viability. In this study, a decision support system (DSS) based on the interactive use of location models and geographical information
systems (GIS) was developed to determine the optimal positions for air defence weapons and radars. In the location model,
the fire units are considered as the facilities to be located and the possible approach routes of air vehicles are treated
as demand points. Considering the probability that fire by the units will miss the targets, the objective of the problem is
to determine the positions that provide coverage of the approach routes of the maximum number of weapons while considering
the military principles regarding the tactical use and deployment of units. In comparison with the conventional method, the
proposed methodology presents a more reliable, faster, and more efficient solution. On the other hand, owing to the DSS, a
battery commander who is responsible for air defence becomes capable of determining the optimal weapon and radar positions,
among the alternative ones he has identified, that cover the possible approach routes maximally. Additionally, he attains
the capability of making such decisions in a very short time without going to the field over which he will perform the defence
and hence without being subject to enemy threats. In the decision support system, the digital elevation model is analysed
using Map Objects 2.0, the mathematical model is solved using LINGO 4.0 optimization software, and the user interface and
