Performance lower bounds in stochastic robust and adaptive control

The fundamental issues of capability of robust and adaptive control in dealing with uncertainty are investigated in stochastic systems. It is revealed that to capture the intrinsic limitations of adaptive control, it is necessary to use sup_t types of transient and persistent performance, rather than lim sup_t types which reflect only asymptotic behavior of a system. For clarity and technical tractability, a simple first-order linear time-varying system is employed as a vehicle to explore performance lower bounds of robust and adaptive control. Optimal performances of nominal, robust and adaptive control are explicitly derived and their implications are discussed in an information framework. An adaptive strategy is scrutinized for its achievable performance bounds. The results indicate that intimate interaction and inherent conflict between identification and control result in a certain performance lower bound which does not approach the nominal performance even when the system varies very slowly. Explicit lower bounds are obtained when disturbances are either normally or uniformly distributed     

Synthesis of Single-Crystalline Silicon Nitride Nanobelts Via Catalyst-Assisted Pyrolysis of a Polysilazane

Recently, one-dimensional nanostructures have attracted extensive attention since they are potentially important for both applications and fundamental research. In this paper, we report the synthesis of ultra-long single crystal Si₃N₄ nanobelts via catalyst-assisted pyrolysis of polymeric precursors. The obtained products contain both α- and β-Si₃N₄ nanobelts, which are 50–100 nm in thickness, 400–1000 nm in width, and a few hundreds of micrometers to several millimeters in length. Different from previous techniques for synthesizing one-dimensional structures, the current nanobelts are synthesized through confined crystallization of an amorphous phase. A solid–liquid–gas–solid reaction/crystallization growth mechanism is proposed. The formation of nanobelts instead of nanowires is attributed to the anisotropy growth at an earlier stage.     

基于OpenGL的二维电法数据三维可视化技术研究

结合目前电法勘探数据成图及二维解释的特点及存在的局限性,研究了OpenGL和VC＋＋2005联合编程,结合二维剖面数据特点,研制了基于OpenGL的电法数据三维可视化系统Geo3DVis。Geo3DVis的基本功能包括工区建立、二维解释、三维显示;实现了对二维剖面数据的动态放大、缩小、平移等交互操作。将Geo3DVis应用于实际二维物探数据资料解释,取得了良好的地质效果。

Comparison of Skidding Performance of Small Track-type Experimental Prototype Skidder and J-50 Skidding Tractor

In this paper, field experimental comparison is made between a small track-type experimental prototype skidder and a J-50 skidding tractor. Experimental data, including skidding productivity, soil compaction on skidding trails, and damage rate of the residual trees, are analyzed. The results indicate that with the condition of scattered skidding area and low skidding volume per cycle, small track-type experimental prototype skidder has advantage on working and a higher skidding productivity. It makes lower soil compaction to the skidding trails in the depth of 0-5 cm, 5-10 cm, and 10-15 cm. Under the same work conditions, the damage rate of the residual trees made by small track-type experimental prototype skidder is only 1/5 of those made by J-50 type skidding tractor. The damage rate is reduced by 80%.

A novel frequency-offset monitoring technique for direct-detection DPSK systems

We propose and demonstrate a novel technique to monitor the frequency offset between the optical source and delay interferometer (DI) for direct-detection differential phase-shift-keying (DPSK) systems. In this scheme, a phase-modulated tone is applied to DPSK signals at the transmitter and then detected after being converted into an amplitude-modulated tone at the DI to be used for the monitoring signal. Our experimental demonstration shows that the monitoring range and sensitivity of the proposed scheme are measured to be /spl plusmn/2 GHz and /spl sim/10 MHz, respectively, which we believe are good enough to be used either to generate alarm signals for the frequency offset monitoring or to control the feedback loop of the DI.
