Activated oocytes of Xenopus laevis were injected with centriole preparations isolated either from spermatozoa of loach fish Misgurnus fossilis or from rat liver. These injections induced the development of cytasters in the ooplasm and egg cleavage. Electron microscopic study of cytasters was made at the stage that corresponded to interphase between first and second cleavage divisions. This study revealed in cytasters singleton centrioles surrounded by pericentriolar material and numerous microtubules. Surprisingly, the ultrastructure of centrioles in cytasters corresponded to that of juvenile, newly formed vertebrate centrioles, whereas the injected preparations contained only adult mature centrioles. We suggested that xenogenic centrioles injected to Xenopus laevis oocytes could dissolve after formation of centrioles made from molecules of oocyte origin. A special mechanism that eliminates male centrioles after egg fertilization is speculated. 相似文献

Deformable models, which include deformable contours (the popular snakes) and deformable surfaces, are a powerful model-based medical image analysis technique. We develop a new class of deformable models by formulating deformable surfaces in terms of an affine cell image decomposition (ACID). Our approach significantly extends standard deformable surfaces, while retaining their interactivity and other desirable properties. In particular, the ACID induces an efficient reparameterization mechanism that enables parametric deformable surfaces to evolve into complex geometries, even modifying their topology as necessary. We demonstrate that our new ACID-based deformable surfaces, dubbed T-surfaces, can effectively segment complex anatomic structures from medical volume images. 相似文献

We propose a method that incorporates the time-frequency characteristics of neural sources into magnetoencephalographic (MEG) source estimation. The method is based on the multiple-signal-classification (MUSIC) algorithm and it calculates a time--frequency matrix in which diagonal and off-diagonal terms are the auto and crosstime--frequency distributions of multichannel MEG recordings, respectively. The method averages this time-frequency matrix over the time--frequency region of interest. The locations of neural sources are then estimated by checking the orthogonality between the noise subspace of this averaged matrix and the sensor lead field. Accordingly, the method allows us to estimate the locations of neural sources from each time--frequency component. A computer simulation was performed to test the validity of the proposed method, and the results demonstrate its effectiveness. 相似文献

A fast frequency-sweep technique is developed for the analysis of radio-frequency coils for magnetic resonance imaging. This technique applies the method of asymptotic waveform evaluation to the moment method solution of the integral equation for the original physical problem. A simple, fast, sensitive, and economical field method was developed and evaluated for the determination of hexavalent chromium (CrVI) in environmental and workplace air samples. By means of ultrasonic extraction in combination with a strong anion-exchange solid-phase extraction (SAE-SPE) technique, the filtration, isolation, and determination of CrVI in the presence of trivalent chromium (CrIII) and potential interferents was achieved. The method entails (1) ultrasonication in basic ammonium buffer solution to extract CrVI from environmental matrixes; (2) SAE-SPE to separate CrVI from CrIII and interferences; (3) elution/acidification of the eluate; (4) complexation of chromium with 1,5-diphenylcarbazide; and (5) spectrophotometric determination of the colored chromium-diphenylcarbazone complex. Several critical parameters were optimized in order to effect the extraction of both soluble (K2CrO4) and insoluble (PbCrO4) forms of CrVI without inducing CrIII oxidation or CrVI reduction. The method allowed for the dissolution and purification of CrVI from environmental and workplace air sample matrixes for up to 24 samples simultaneously in less than 90 min (including ultrasonication). The results demonstrated that the method was simple, fast, quantitative, and sufficiently sensitive for the determination of occupational exposures of CrVI. A smart-pixel array is a two-dimensional array of optoelectronic devices that combine optical inputs and outputs with electronic processing circuitry. A field-programmable smart-pixel array (FP-SPA) is a smart-pixel array capable of having its electronic functionality dynamically programmed in the field. Such devices could be used in a diverse range of applications, including optical switching, optical digital signal processing, and optical image processing. We describe the design, VLSI implementation, and applications of a first-generation FP-SPA implemented with the 0.8-microm complementary metal-oxide semiconductor-self-electro-optic effect device technology made available through the Lucent Technologies-Advanced Research Projects Agency Cooperative (Lucent/ARPA/COOP) program. We report spice simulations and experimental results of two sample applications: In the first application, we configure this FP-SPA as an array of free-space optical binary switches that can be used in optical multistage networks. In the second, we configure the device as an optoelectronic transceiver for a dynamically reconfigurable free-space intelligent optical backplane called the hyperplane. We also describe the testing setup and the electrical and the optical tests that demonstrate the correct functionality of the fabricated device. Such devices have the potential to reduce significantly the need for custom design and fabrication of application-specific optoelectronic devices in the same manner that field-programmable gate arrays have largely eliminated the need for custom design and fabrication of application-specific gate arrays, except in the most demanding applications. 相似文献

Bioactivity and magnetic properties were investigated in glass and glass ceramics based on the SiO2–Na2O–Fe2O3–CaO–P2O5–B2O3 system to find their suitability as thermoseed for hyperthermia treatment of cancer. The effect of change in compositions on bioactivity was examined in simulated body fluids. The glass ceramic samples exhibit Na3CaSi3O8 and Na3-XFeXPO4 phases. After dipping the glass ceramic samples in simulated body fluids silica hydrogel first forms, followed by an amorphous calcium phosphate layer. Magnetic and microwave resonance experiments further demonstrate the potential of these glass ceramics for possible use in hyperthermia. 相似文献

The preparation of granules by melt granulation was investigated using a laboratory-scale high-shear mixer (Pellmix PL 1/8) and binary mixtures containing lactose and different lipidic binders, namely, Compritol® 888, Cutina® HR, or Precirol® ATO5. During the process, the product temperature and the impeller motor power consumption were monitored. On the other hand, the melting behavior (thermal analysis) and the rheological properties (controlled stress capillary rheometer) of the different lipophilic binders were also determined. The granule formation was shown to be quite effective at product temperatures even below the melting point of the lipidic binder, that is, when the binder is sufficiently softened to be deformed by the very high shearing forces developed in the high-shear mixer. On the other hand, the performance of lipidic binders during the melt granulation process was shown to be closely dependent on their melting and rheological properties. The granule growth rate was shown to be higher when the binder melting range is narrow and the influence of temperature on the viscosity of the unmelted product is high. 相似文献

We present a method to incorporate the relaxation dominated attenuation into the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation of acoustic wave propagation in complex media. A dispersive perfectly matched layer (DPML) boundary condition, which is suitable for boundary matching to such a dispersive media whole space, is also proposed to truncate the FDTD simulation domain. The numerical simulation of a Ricker wavelet propagating in a dispersive medium, described by second-order Debye model, shows that the Ricker wavelet is attenuated in amplitude and expanded in time in its course of propagation, as required by Kramers-Kronig relations. The numerical results also are compared to exact solution showing that the dispersive FDTD method is accurate and that the DPML boundary condition effectively dampens reflective waves. The method presented here is applicable to the simulation of ultrasonic instrumentation for medical imaging and other nondestructive testing problems with frequency dependent, attenuating media. 相似文献
