We define a family of Distributed Hash Table systems whose aim is to combine the routing efficiency of randomized networks—e.g.
optimal average path length O(log 2
n/δlog δ) with δ degree—with the programmability and startup efficiency of a uniform overlay—that is, a deterministic system in which the overlay network is transitive and greedy routing is optimal. It is known that Ω(log n) is a lower bound on the average path length for uniform overlays with O(log n) degree (Xu et al., IEEE J. Sel. Areas Commun. 22(1), 151–163, 2004).
Our work is inspired by neighbor-of-neighbor (NoN) routing, a recently introduced variation of greedy routing that allows us to achieve optimal average path length in randomized networks. The advantage of our proposal is that of allowing
the NoN technique to be implemented without adding any overhead to the corresponding deterministic network.
We propose a family of networks parameterized with a positive integer c which measures the amount of randomness that is used. By varying the value c, the system goes from the deterministic case (c=1) to an “almost uniform” system. Increasing c to relatively low values allows for routing with asymptotically optimal average path length while retaining most of the advantages
of a uniform system, such as easy programmability and quick bootstrap of the nodes entering the system.
We also provide a matching lower bound for the average path length of the routing schemes for any c.

In this paper we present a novel methodology based on non-parametric deformable prototype templates for reconstructing the
outline of a shape from a degraded image. Our method is versatile and fast and has the potential to provide an automatic procedure
for classifying pathologies. We test our approach on synthetic and real data from a variety of medical and biological applications.
In these studies it is important to reconstruct accurately the shape of the object under investigation from very noisy data.
Here we assume that we have some prior knowledge about the object outline represented by a prototype shape. Our procedure
deforms this shape by means of non-affine transformations and the contour is reconstructed by minimizing a newly developed
objective function that depends on the transformation parameters. We introduce an iterative template deformation procedure
in which the scale of the deformation decreases as the algorithm proceeds. We compare our results with those from a Gaussian
Mixture Model segmentation and two state-of-the-art Level Set methods. This comparison shows that the proposed procedure performs
consistently well on both real and simulated data. As a by-product we develop a new filter that recovers the connectivity
of a shape.

Since his degree in Physics obtained at the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’in 1999 his work has been focused on developing models and methods for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, in particular image registration, classification and segmentation in a Bayesian framework. After being appointed a 2-year contract as a Lecturer at the University of Plymouth from 2003 to 2004 he is now a post-Doc researcher at the ITAB, Institute for Advanced Biomedical Technologies, University of Chieti, Italy and he works on the analysis of fMRI and MEG data. Julian Stander was born in Plymouth, UK in 1964. He received a BA in Mathematics with first class honours from University of Oxford in 1987, a Diploma in Mathematical Statistics with distinction from University of Cambridge in 1988, and a PhD from University of Bath in 1992. He has been a lecturer at the School of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Plymouth, since 1993, and was promoted to Reader in 2006. This paper describes the Magnebike robot, a compact robot with two magnetic wheels in a motorbike arrangement, which is intended for inspecting the inner casing of ferromagnetic pipes with complex‐shaped structures. The locomotion concept is based on an adapted magnetic wheel unit integrating two lateral lever arms. These arms allow for slight lifting off the wheel in order to locally decrease the magnetic attraction force when passing concave edges, as well as laterally stabilizing the wheel unit. The robot has the main advantage of being compact (180 × 130 × 220 mm) and mechanically simple: it features only five active degrees of freedom (two driven wheels each equipped with an active lifter stabilizer and one steering unit). The paper presents in detail design and implementation issues that are specific to magnetic wheeled robots. Low‐level control functionalities are addressed because they are necessary to control the active system. The paper also focuses on characterizing and analyzing the implemented robot. The high mobility is shown through experimental results: the robot not only can climb vertical walls and follow circumferential paths inside pipe structures but it is also able to pass complex combinations of 90‐deg convex and concave ferromagnetic obstacles with almost any inclination regarding gravity. It requires only limited space to maneuver because turning on the spot around the rear wheel is possible. This high mobility enables the robot to access any location in the specified environment. Finally the paper analyzes the maximum payload for different types of environment complexities because this is a key feature for climbing robots and provides a security factor about the risk of falling and slipping. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 相似文献

High resolution electron and ion beam lithographies, fundamental tools for nanofabrication and nanotechnologies, require fast and high precision (high bit number) pattern generators. In the present work a solution for increasing the bit number, and preserving the speed of the system, is presented. A prototype with effective 18 bit resolution and with a write speed as fast as 10 MHz has been successfully tested: details of the adopted hardware solution are presented and described. This solution is very general and can be used in all those applications that require the generation of control voltages with an high bit number (high precision) at high speed, such as, for example, the scanning probe microscopy and nanomanipulation. Software solutions for increasing the data transfer efficiency are also presented; the aim of the adopted solutions is to preserve the flexibility and adaptability of the pattern generator to different writing strategies. 相似文献

Fuzzy motion control strategy for cooperation of multiple automated vehicles with passengers comfort

This paper considers motion control for a cooperative system of automated passenger vehicles. It develops a cooperative scheme based on a decentralized planning algorithm which considers the vehicles in an initial open chain configuration. In this scheme the trajectories are intersections-free, and each trajectory is planned independently of the others. To ensure the stabilization of each vehicle in the planned trajectory, a fuzzy closed loop motion control is presented, where, based on the properties of the Fuzzy maps, the Lyapunov’s stability of the motion errors is demonstrated for all the vehicles. Based on the ISO 2631-1 standard, the saturation property of the Fuzzy maps guarantees low values of longitudinal and lateral accelerations, to ensure comfort of the human body during the motion. Transition metal dichalcogenides layered nano-crystals are emerging as promising candidates for next-generation optoelectronic and quantum devices. In such systems, the interaction between excitonic states and atomic vibrations is crucial for many fundamental properties, such as carrier mobilities, quantum coherence loss, and heat dissipation. In particular, to fully exploit their valley-selective excitations, one has to understand the many-body exciton physics of zone-edge states. So far, theoretical and experimental studies have mainly focused on the exciton–phonon dynamics in high-energy direct excitons involving zone-center phonons. Here, ultrafast electron diffraction and ab initio calculations are used to investigate the many-body structural dynamics following nearly- resonant excitation of low-energy indirect excitons in MoS2. By exploiting the large momentum carried by scattered electrons, the excitation of in-plane K- and Q- phonon modes are identified with 𝑬′ symmetry as key for the stabilization of indirect excitons generated via near-infrared light at 1.55 eV, and light is shed on the role of phonon anharmonicity and the ensuing structural evolution of the MoS2 crystal lattice. The results highlight the strong selectivity of phononic excitations directly associated with the specific indirect- exciton nature of the wavelength-dependent electronic transitions triggered in the system. 相似文献

Centrifugal casting is a technology used for manufacturing hybrid rocket paraffin grains. This technology helps avoiding voids formation inside the solid paraffin as it cools. Voids are formed because of air bubbles being entrapped while pouring and because the liquid wax shrinks by 17–19% upon cooling. In this work, the centrifugal casting process for the manufacturing of paraffin cylinders was prototyped at two different scales considering critical casting issues. The effects of process parameters (rotational speed, melt temperature, and flow rate) on the tensile properties of the manufactured grains were analyzed. The results of the optimization conducted at the lower scale (2.5?kg) were up scaled to manufacture 25?kg grains. The resulting mechanical properties complied with the design specifications, and they were better than those characterized from the gravity cast wax. A numerical model of growth and dissolution of bubbles during the process was then developed to predict the quality of the castings. The numerical results showed how increasing the mold rotational speed up to 1800?rpm reduced the removal time. However, compared to grains solidification time, the predicted removal times were much shorter, proving the advantage of centrifugal casting in counteracting voids formation. 相似文献

Ball-burnishing induces compressive residual stresses on treated materials by the effect of plastic deformation. The result is an increase in the fatigue life of the treated part, retarding the initiation of cracks on the surface. Compressive residual stresses have been previously measured by X-ray diffraction near the surface, revealing considerably high values at the maximum analyzed depth, in relation to other finishing processes such as shot peening. However, the maximum analyzed depth is very limited by using this technique. In this paper, the incremental hole drilling (IHD) technique is tested to measure residual stresses, being able to reach a 2-mm measuring depth. To that objective, a commercial strain gage is used and calibrated using finite element model simulations. A second Finite Element Model based on material removal rate is developed to obtain the equations to calculate the strain release through IHD. Finally, residual stresses are measured experimentally with that technique on two different materials, confirming that ball-burnishing increases the compressive residual stresses in layers up to 0.5?mm deep for the testing conditions, which is a good response to industrial needs.
