The effect of wall injection on the concentration profiles for chemically reacting systems under laminar flow conditions has been analysed. Results indicate significant variation in radial concentrations for second-order reactions, but little effect for zero-order and first-order reactions.  相似文献

A new type of solid base catalyst has been prepared by loading of CaO on thermally activated fly ash, with the aim of being used as heterogeneous catalyst for fine chemical production. The prepared fly ash supported calcium oxide catalyst (FAC) was characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy and atomic absorption spectroscopy. The catalytic activity of FAC was evaluated by Knoevenagel condensation of benzaldehyde and ethyl cyanoacetate as model test reaction under optimized conditions. The catalyst gave very high conversion (87%) of benzaldehyde to desired product ethyl (E)-α-cyanocinnamate with high purity. The catalyst was completely recyclable without significant loss in activity up to three reaction cycles, which confers its stability during reaction unlike commercial catalysts. Moreover this catalyst shows a promising future in providing environmentally clean process for the industrial sector.  相似文献

Microreactors as a novel concept in chemical technology enable the introduction of new reaction procedures in chemistry, pharmaceutical industry, and molecular biology. These miniaturized reaction systems offer many exceptional technical advantages for a large number of applications. One major application is in the bulk synthesis of nanoparticles. Despite the availability of a plethora of nanoparticle synthesis processes, there exist many difficulties in controlling the shape, size, and purity of nanoparticles in large quantities in a safe and cost-effective manner. These difficulties have been the principal factors adversely limiting the applications of ceramic nanoparticles. Recent experiments have shown that to study the process of growth and formation of nanoparticles, a reactor having much smaller dimensions, namely a microreactor is more appropriate. These studies have also shown that a microchannel reactor provides control over the mean residence time and hence over the nanoparticle size and shape. This paper deals with the design, fabrication, and testing issues related to a high temperature, ceramic microreactor by investigating the use of reactive gas streams in arrays of microchannel reactors. These innovations offer the potential to overcome the barriers associated with synthesis of ceramic nanoparticles in large quantities.  相似文献

Commercial dual-phase (DP) steel in sheet form and comprised of ferrite, martensite, and bainite was subjected to uniaxial tension up to fracture. The damage characteristics were studied through extensive quantitative metallography and scanning electron microscope (SEM) observations of polished sections and fracture surfaces of failed specimens. The observed void nucleation mechanisms include nucleation at the martensite/ferrite interface or triple junction (most predominant), nucleation due to the cracking of martensite particles, and nucleation at the inclusions. The void characteristics in terms of area fraction, void density, void size ranges, and void orientations were analyzed as a function of thickness strain from various regions of the different uniaxial tensile test specimens taken to fracture. The damage analysis suggests that the void nucleation occurs during the entire deformation process with an almost constant rate and this rate reduces before fracture. A nucleation strain of 0.15 has been estimated for this material.  相似文献

The present study focus on abrasive flow finishing (AFF), a process that finishes complex internal and external geometries with the help of viscoelastic abrasive medium, while keeping in mind its low finish and material removal rates (MRR). Researchers have often strived to improve finishing rate and MRR. As an attempt to overcome the said limitations, this paper discusses rotational abrasive flow finishing (R-AFF) process wherein complete tooling is externally rotated and the medium reciprocates with the help of hydraulic actuators. In this study, preliminary experiments are conducted on Al alloy and Al alloy/SiC metal matrix composites (MMCs) at different extrusion pressures, and medium compositions are employed for finding optimum conditions of the same for higher change in roughness (ΔRa). The same optimum conditions are used to study the effect of workpiece rotational speed on (ΔRa), material removal (MR), change in workpiece hardness and surface topology. It is noted that as the workpiece rotational speed increases from 2 to 10 RPM, the experimental helix angle decreases from 22° to 9° and the helical path length increases from 67 to 160 mm. Based on these findings the mechanism of material removal of matrix and reinforcement in MMC using R-AFF have been proposed. Here the matrix material is removed by micro-cutting and three methods of material removal mechanisms for reinforcement are also explained. The scientific logic behind finishing mechanism of matrix and reinforcement, cross hatch patterns, helical path directions, micro-scratch (μ-scratch) width and depth variation with size, orientation and support that active abrasive grain obtains from neighboring abrasives is derived from scanning electron microscopy micrographs. Finally this study establishes that R-AFF can produce 44% better ΔRa and 81.8% more MR compared to the AFF process. Accordingly, R-AFF generates micro cross hatch pattern on the finished surface that can improve lubricant holding capabilities.  相似文献

The Ferroelectric relaxor ternary system 0.5PZN-(0.5 – x)PFN-xBZN was prepared using the columbite precursor method. The stability of the perovskite phase was studied as a function of BZN content in the system. It was observed that BZN is a good stabilizer of perovskite phase because of the high value of electronegativity difference between its cation and anion. It has also been observed that addition of BZN increases the dielectric maxima peak value and decrease the Curie temperature of the ceramics. The ternary composition 0.5PZN-0.425PFN-0.075BZN has been identified for MLCs applications. It has a T c of around room temperature with a peak dielectric constant 6400 and tan 0.05. The mechanical properties of relaxor materials have also been studied and reported.  相似文献

The residual effects of thermal ageing at various temperatures on fibres of the aliphatic polyamide Nylon 6,6 have been studied. Both crystal and macro structural characteristics manifest the residual effects. The former category includes changes in intensity, 2 values and half width. The macro changes include introduction of surface damages in the form of holes, material deposits etc. The fibre also undergoes reduction in weight. The structural changes suggest deterioration in the initial tensile characteristics which has been verified experimentally. A direct correlation between the tensile strength and the angular separation of the equatorial reflections has also been observed.  相似文献

In the assessment of dose received from a nuclear accident, considerable attention has been paid to retrospective dosimetry using heated materials such as household ceramics and bricks. However, unheated materials such as mortar and concrete are more commonly found in industrial sites and particularly in nuclear installations. These materials contain natural dosemeters such as quartz, which usually is less sensitive than its heated counterpart. The potential of quartz extracted from mortar in a wall of a low-level radioactive-waste storage facility containing distributed sources of 60Co and 137Cs has been investigated. Dose-depth proliles based on small aliquots and single grains from the quartz extracted from the mortar samples are reported here. These are compared with results from heated quartz and polymineral fine grains extracted from an adjacent brick, and the integrated dose recorded by environmental TLDs.  相似文献

This paper reports the in situ field saturated hydraulic conductivity of municipal solid waste at a landfill in Florida. The saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) was estimated at 23 locations using the borehole permeameter test, a method commonly used for determination of the Ks of unsaturated soil. The Ks of the landfilled waste was found to range from 5.4×10?6 to 6.1×10?5?cm/s. The Ks was found to be on the lower end of the range of Ks reported by previous studies. The hydraulic conductivity of the waste decreased with depth, the likely result of greater overburden pressures associated with deep locations of the landfill. Permeability values (kw) of the landfilled waste calculated based on Ks were compared with permeability values estimated using air as the fluid (air permeability, ka). Values of ka were found to be approximately three orders of magnitude greater than those of kw. The lower permeability of the waste to water was primarily attributed to entrapped gas. Other factors such as potential clogging of media and short-circuiting of air along the well may also have contributed to the differences in ka and kw.  相似文献

Aluminum alloy—based cast in-situ composite has been synthesized by dispersion of externally added molybdenum trioxide particles (MoO3) in molten aluminum at the processing temperature of 850 °C. During processing, the displacement reaction between molten aluminum and MoO3 particles results in formation of alumina particles in situ and also releases molybdenum into molten aluminum. A part of this molybdenum forms solid solution with aluminum and the remaining part reacts with aluminum to form intermetallic phase Mo(Al1−x Fe x )12 of different morphologies. Magnesium (Mg) is added to the melt in order to help wetting of alumina particles generated in situ, by oxidation of molten aluminum by molybdenum trioxide, and helps to retain these particles inside the melt. The mechanical properties of the cast in-situ composite, as indicated by ultimate tensile stress, yield stress, percentage elongation, and hardness, are relatively higher than those observed either in cast commercial aluminum or in cast Al-Mo alloy. The wear and friction of the resulting cast in-situ Al(Mg,Mo)-Al2O3(MoO3) composites have been investigated using a pin-on-disc wear testing machine under dry sliding conditions at different normal loads of 9.8N, 14.7N, 19.6N, 24.5N, 29.4N, 34.3N, and 39.2 N and a constant sliding speed of 1.05 m/s. The results of the current investigation indicate that the cumulative volume loss and wear rate of cast in-situ composites are significantly lower than those observed either in cast commercial aluminum or in cast Al-Mo alloy, under similar load and sliding conditions. Beyond about 30 to 35 N loads, there appears to be a higher rate of increase in the wear rate in the cast in-situ composite as well as in cast commercial aluminum and cast Al-Mo alloy. For a given normal load, the coefficient of friction of cast in-situ composite is significantly lower than those observed either in cast commercial aluminum or in cast Al-Mo alloy. The coefficient of friction of cast in-situ composite increases gradually with increasing normal load while those observed in cast commercial aluminum or in cast Al-Mo alloy remain more or less the same. Beyond a critical normal load of about 30 to 35 N, the coefficient of friction decreases with increasing normal load in all the three materials.  相似文献
