Substantial evidence indicates that bisphenol A (BPA), a ubiquitous environmental chemical used in the synthesis of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins, can impair brain development. Clinical and epidemiological studies exploring potential connections between BPA and neurodevelopmental disorders in humans have repeatedly identified correlations between early BPA exposure and developmental disorders, such as attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder. Investigations using invertebrate and vertebrate animal models have revealed that developmental exposure to BPA can impair multiple aspects of neuronal development, including neural stem cell proliferation and differentiation, synapse formation, and synaptic plasticity—neuronal phenotypes that are thought to underpin the fundamental changes in behavior-associated neurodevelopmental disorders. Consistent with neuronal phenotypes caused by BPA, behavioral analyses of BPA-treated animals have shown significant impacts on behavioral endophenotypes related to neurodevelopmental disorders, including altered locomotor activity, learning and memory deficits, and anxiety-like behavior. To contextualize the correlations between BPA and neurodevelopmental disorders in humans, this review summarizes the current literature on the developmental neurotoxicity of BPA in laboratory animals with an emphasis on neuronal phenotypes, molecular mechanisms, and behavioral outcomes. The collective works described here predominantly support the notion that gestational exposure to BPA should be regarded as a risk factor for neurodevelopmental disorders.  相似文献

Trinocular Stereo: A Real-Time Algorithm and its Evaluation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In telepresence applications each user is immersed in a rendered 3D-world composed from representations transmitted from remote sites. The challenge is to compute dense range data at high frame rates, since participants cannot easily communicate if the processing cycle or network latencies are long. Moreover, errors in new stereoscopic views of the remote 3D-world should be hardly perceptible. To achieve the required speed and accuracy, we use trinocular stereo, a matching algorithm based on the sum of modified normalized cross-correlations, and subpixel disparity interpolation. To increase speed we use Intel IPL functions in the pre-processing steps of background subtraction and image rectification as well as a four-processor parallelization. To evaluate our system we have developed a test-bed which provides a set of registered dense ground-truth laser data and image data from multiple views.  相似文献

Suitable analytical methods are required for quantitative determination of trace levels of ingredients in samples obtained for purposes of cleaning validation. We describe below an atomic absorption method for the quantitation of cisplatin, an antineoplastic agent, in aqueous samples. Cisplatin was reacted with diethyldithiocarbamic acid (DDTC), sodium salt, to yield a platinum-DDTC (Pt-DDTC) complex. The Pt-DDTC chelate was extracted into methylene chloride, the extract was mixed with acetonitrile, and the platinum content was then determined using a Zeeman atomic absorption (AA) spectrophotometer. The extraction conditions and AA experimental conditions were set up such that the detection level could be extended to 0.5 ng/ml. Reproducible results were obtained at a quantitative working standard concentration of 5 PPB. The absorbance response was found to be a linear function of cisplatin concentration in the region between 0.5 PPB and 20 PPB, which is about 10% to 400% of the target analyte concentration of 5 PPB. The target analyte concentration was set at 5 PPB such that it was at least 10 times the detection limit of about 0.5 PPB.  相似文献

-Power levels of 17 kW in 0.7 μs pulses have been obtained from the 2.14 mm transition of NH3when optically pumped by a 65 J CO2TEA laser. The accuracy of the focused beam reflectance measurement (FBRM) probe, which measures a chord length distribution, from Mettler-Toledo Lasentec® has been explored. A particle video microscope (PVM) probe, which provides in situ digital images, was used as a direct visual method to test the reliability of the FBRM results. These probes can provide in situ particle characterization at high pressures. The FBRM has been used to study emulsions and ice and clathrate hydrate formation. The ability of the FBRM to accurately characterize unimodal and bimodal distributions of particles and droplets and to measure agglomeration events was investigated. It was found that while the FBRM can successfully identify system changes, certain inaccuracies exist in the chord length distributions. Particularly, the FBRM was found to oversize unimodal distributions of glass beads, but undersize droplets in an emulsion and was unable to measure full agglomerate sizes. The onset of ice and hydrate nucleation and growth were successfully detected by the FBRM, but quantitative analysis of the particle and agglomerate sizes required simultaneous PVM measurements to be performed.  相似文献
