The present study examined the effects of leadership and unit cohesion on mental health stigma and perceived barriers to care. A sample of 680 soldiers from combat support units were surveyed 3 months after their return from combat operations in Iraq. The survey included scales on psychological symptoms and perceptions of leader behaviors and unit cohesion, as well as items assessing stigma and barriers to care. The sample was used to test the independent and interactive effects of leadership and unit cohesion on soldiers’ perceptions of stigma and barriers to care. Analyses yielded significant interaction effects between leadership and cohesion in predicting stigma and barriers to care, while controlling for the effects of mental health symptoms. Soldiers who rated their leaders more highly and who reported higher unit cohesion also reported lower scores on both stigma and perceived barriers to care. Thus, positive leadership and unit cohesion can reduce perceptions of stigma and barriers to care, even after accounting for the relationship between mental health symptoms and these outcomes. This paper shows how magnetic nanoparticles are produced by electrochemical synthesis using a low carbon steel bar as an anode and 100 mA cm?2 electric perturbations at room temperature. Two different kinds of salts, (CH3)4NCl and NaCl, were used to prepare the supporting electrolyte solutions. This allowed a comparison to be made between a surfactant and common salt, and allowed their influence on particle size to be analyzed. Additionally, mixtures of water and ethanol were added to the electrolyte solution in order to improve particle size distribution. The nanoparticle samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, TEM, magnetization measurements, and Raman and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The results showed that after an optimized time of 10 min, the nanoparticles obtained in all the evaluated electrolytes were mainly magnetite (Fe3O4). The particles were between 8 and 10 nm in size. Depending on the nature of the electrolyte, the magnetite nanoparticles exhibited high purity and stoichiometry. The presence of ethanol in the electrolyte avoided particle agglomeration during the formation of magnetite. When the magnetic nanoparticles were exposed to an external magnetic field they showed superparamagnetic behavior and negligible coercivity. Current advances in the non‐chromatographic fractionation and characterization of PEGylated proteins

For more than 30 years, PEGylation has been used to improve the physicochemical properties of several proteins and therapeutic drugs having a major impact in the biopharmaceutical industry. The purification of PEGylated proteins usually involves two basic challenges: (1) the separation of PEG‐proteins from other reaction products; and (2) the sub‐fractionation of PEG‐proteins on the basis of their degree of PEGylation and positional isomerism. Currently, most PEGylated protein purification processes are based on chromatographic techniques, especially size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and ion exchange chromatography (IEX). Nonetheless, other less frequently used strategies based on non‐chromatographic techniques such as ultrafiltration, electrophoresis, capillary electrophoresis, and aqueous two‐phase systems have been developed in order to fractionate and analyze PEGylated derivates. This review presents current advances in some of the most widely used non‐chromatographic strategies for the fractionation and analysis of PEG‐protein conjugates. In this work, selected fracture criteria are applied to predict the fracture of dual-phase steel subjected to non-linear strain paths. Furthermore, the effects of manufacturing history are studied. Four fracture criteria were calibrated in three tests using standard specimens. The fracture criteria were first validated in the circular Nakajima test. A second validation test case was included in order to validate fracture prediction for non-linear strain paths. In this test a sheet metal component was manufactured and subsequently stretched until it fractured. All fracture criteria included in this study predict fracture during the Nakajima test with reasonable accuracy. In the second validation test however, the different fracture criteria show considerable diversity in accumulated damage during manufacturing which caused substantial scatter of the fracture prediction in the subsequent stretching. The paper proposes a linear programming approach to the feed-forward minimum-time control of flexible joints. Taking into account both input and output constraints, the optimal bang–bang control is computed by discretizing a continuous-time joint model and by solving a sequence of linear programming feasibility problems. The resulting joint motion is a smooth rest-to-rest motion without oscillations. Theoretical analysis is presented and proof of convergence is given. Aliphatic [n]‐polyurethanes have recently been synthesized from ω‐isocyanato‐α‐alkanols or, more traditionally, by cationic ring‐opening polymerization of cyclourethanes or by the Bu2Sn(OMe)2‐promoted polycondensation of ω‐hydroxy‐α‐O‐phenylurethane alkanes. For the latter procedures, the conditions employed do not seem to be suitable for highly functionalized monomers. In contrast, the polymerization of ω‐amino‐α‐phenylcarbonate alkanes is expected to occur under milder conditions. ω‐Amino‐α‐phenylcarbonate alkanes have been synthesized from 6‐aminohexanol (1) and 3‐aminopropanol (6). The procedure involves the N‐Boc protection of the amino group, followed by activation of the alcohol. Removal of the N‐Boc affords the corresponding ω‐amino‐1‐O‐phenyloxycarbonyloxyalkane hydrochlorides. Other oligomeric comonomers between 1 and 6 have been prepared. The polymerization of these precursors takes place in the absence of metal catalysts to afford the corresponding linear and regioregular [n]‐polyurethanes. The procedure described is useful for the preparation of stable ω‐amino‐α‐phenylcarbonate alkane derivatives, which possess varied chain lengths between the terminal functions. These monomers yield [n]‐polyurethanes having various structures starting from just two aminoalkanols. The polyurethanes were obtained in high yields, with reasonable molecular weight and polydispersity values, and they were characterized spectroscopically and thermally. Human liver fatty acid binding protein (hL‐FABP) has been reported to act as an intracellular shuttle of lipid molecules, thus playing a central role in systemic metabolic homeostasis. The involvement of hL‐FABP in the transport of bile salts has been postulated but scarcely investigated. Here we describe a thorough NMR investigation of glycocholate (GCA) binding to hL‐FABP. The protein molecule bound a single molecule of GCA, in contrast to the 1:2 stoichiometry observed with fatty acids. GCA was found to occupy the large internal cavity of hL‐FABP, without requiring major conformational rearrangement of the protein backbone; rather, this led to increased stability, similar to that estimated for the hL‐FABP:oleate complex. Fast‐timescale dynamics appeared not to be significantly perturbed in the presence of ligands. Slow motions (unlike for other proteins of the family) were retained or enhanced upon binding, consistent with a requirement for structural plasticity for promiscuous recognition. 相似文献

The results presented in this work show the wear characterization of Al-Si matrix composites reinforced by multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) under dry reciprocating sliding conditions against a grey cast iron (GCI) The wear resistance is investigated as a function of the carbon nanotube (CNT) content that varied from 2 to 6 wt%. The results demonstrated that the CNT content plays a relevant role in the wear behavior by substantially reducing the wear loss of Al-Si CNT composites. Further, it reduces the wear loss of the grey cast iron counterface. A physical model able to explain the improved behavior in both mating materials is depicted from experimental results. 相似文献

One basic principle of fluid mechanics used to resolve practical problems in hydraulic engineering is the Bernoulli theorem along a streamline, deduced from the work-energy form of the Euler equation along a streamline. Some confusion exists about the applicability of the Bernoulli theorem and its generalization to open-channel hydraulics. In the present work, a detailed analysis of the Bernoulli theorem and its extension to flow in open channels are developed. The generalized depth-averaged Bernoulli theorem is proposed and it has been proved that the depth-averaged specific energy reaches a minimum in converging accelerating free surface flow over weirs and flumes. Further, in general, a channel control with minimum specific energy in curvilinear flow is not isolated from water waves, as customary state in open-channel hydraulics. 相似文献
