Hydrogen can be a promising clean energy carrier for the replenishment of non-renewable fossil fuels. The set back of hydrogen as an alternative fuel is due to its difficulties in feasible storage and safety concerns. Current hydrogen adsorption technologies, such as cryo-compressed and liquefied storage, are costly for practical applications. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are crystalline materials that have structural versatility, high porosity and surface area, which can adsorb hydrogen efficiently. Hydrogen is adsorbed by physisorption on the MOFs through weak van der Waals force of attraction which can be easily desorbed by applying suitable heat or pressure. The strategies to improve the MOFs surface area, hydrogen uptake capacities and parameters affecting them are studied. Hydrogen spill over mechanism is found to provide high-density storage when compared to other mechanisms. MOFs can be used as proton exchange membranes to convert the stored hydrogen into electricity and can be used as electrodes for the fuel cells. In this review, we addressed the key strategies that could improve hydrogen storage properties for utilizing hydrogen as fuel and opportunities for further growth to meet energy demands.  相似文献

During the last few years, several models have been proposed for the calculation of green roof thermal behavior, but the validation studies of such models are lacking a comprehensive set of highly accurate data. In this study, an experimental laboratory setup was used to create different environmental conditions and to measure sensible heat fluxes to/from a vegetated roof assembly. This experimental setup has been successfully used for different wind velocities (0–3 m/s) to create free and forced convection conditions around green roof tested samples. Furthermore, our study proposed a “basic model” for calculations of the convective heat transfer at green roof assemblies, which is a modified version of the Newton’s cooling law, calibrated and then validated with different sets of data. For forced convection flow regimes, the proposed “basic model” resulted in RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) of 11 W/m2 and R2 value of 0.81. Similarly, the model provided RMSE of 6.6 W/m2 and R2 of 0.90 for sensible heat fluxes with free convection conditions. In the future, this model will be used in on-site experimental studies to understand its performance under wind conditions that exhibit a much wider range than the studied velocity range near the leaf canopy.  相似文献

Accidental and operative trauma are able to induce a systemic reaction of the organism characterized by fever, leukocytosis, catabolism, and an activation of the coagulation system. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) has been found to be an important mediator of this acute-phase response. In this study the influence of elective craniotomy on IL-6 plasma levels was evaluated. Blood samples were obtained from 20 patients undergoing elective craniotomy for vascular or tumorous diseases of the brain. IL-6 increased significantly (p < 0.05) from the pre-operative (0(0-5.4) pg/ml) to the intraoperative (180 min after beginning of surgery) time-point (10.6 (0-18.5) pg/ml). The maximum was reached on the first postoperative morning (13.9(4.3-45.0) pg/ml). Interleukin-10 (IL-10) is an anti-inflammatory cytokine which suppresses IL-6 synthesis in vitro in various cell lines. IL-10 plasma concentrations showed no alterations throughout the study period. Epinephrine plasma concentrations increased significantly from pre-operative values (15 (0-74) pg/ml) to the postoperative time-point (57(9-459) pg/ml). A 4.5-fold increase (p < 0.05) of norepinephrine plasma concentrations was found when comparing the data obtained 60 min after beginning of surgery with the data of the first postoperative morning. In monocytes, which are a major source of plasma IL-6, an elevation of intracellular cAMP stimulates the IL-6 synthesis. The postoperative maximum of IL-6 in plasma could be due to a release of catecholamines. In conclusion this study demonstrated an elevation of IL-6 plasma concentrations during and after elective craniotomy. Increased plasma catecholamine concentrations as well as a damage in the blood-brain barrier due to the surgical trauma with a spill-over of IL-6 from brain tissue into plasma could have contributed to this result.  相似文献

The molecular motions of D-alpha-galacturonic acid monohydrate (GA) and its derivative methyl-alpha-D-galacturonic acid methyl ester monohydrate (MGAM) in the solid state have been studied using 1H NMR. Both protonated and deuterium exchanged samples have been used. Spin-lattice relaxation times in the laboratory and rotating frames as well as second moments have been measured over the temperature range 90-370 K. Analysis of results has shown that in GA spin-lattice relaxation is chiefly by hydroxyl groups and water of crystallization. In MGAM, methyl groups dominate spin-lattice relaxation in the laboratory frame at the low temperature. Hydroxyl groups and water of crystallization contribute to the spin-lattice relaxation in the laboratory frame in the high temperature region. In the rotating frame motion of hydroxyl groups and water of crystallization provide the main relaxation pathway. Changes in the static second moment with temperature can be reasonably well predicted using values of correlation time and motionally averaged second moments obtained by fitting the spin-lattice relaxation data. 13C CPMAS spectra for GA and MGAM are also described.  相似文献

The main objective of this article is to shed light on an important issue of water conservation-groundwater rights and legislation. Principles of groundwater rights are detailed and their applications to major aquifer systems, groundwater basins and wadis are discussed. Legislation and the clarification of water rights are vital for the sustainable development of groundwater. They are urgently needed in Saudi Arabia in particular and in all areas where demand exceeds supply. Legislation is one of the main pillars upon which any conservation policy is built. In this article a model is suggested for groundwater allocation in aquifers shared by more than one state.  相似文献

A modified method of the classical initial value technique is presented for the free vibration analysis of rectangular orthotropic plates. The method employs finite difference operators in one direction and uses integration in the other direction. The solutions are superimposed to satisfy the boundary conditions. A detailed discussion of the method is given. A comparative study is presented of the initial value method and other numerical methods. Embryonic lethality of thrombomodulin-deficient mice has indicated an essential role for this regulator of blood coagulation in murine development. Here, the embryonic expression pattern of thrombomodulin was defined by surveying beta-galactosidase activity in a mouse strain in which the reporter gene was placed under the regulatory control of the endogenous thrombomodulin promoter via homologous recombination in embryonic stem cells. The murine trophoblast was identified as a previously unrecognized anatomical site where TM expression is conserved between humans and mice and may exert a critical function during postimplantation development. Targeted reporter gene expression in mesodermal precursors of the endothelial cell lineage defined thrombomodulin as an early marker of vascular differentiation. Analysis of the thrombomodulin promoter in differentiating ES cells and in transgenic mice provided evidence for a disparate and cell type-specific gene regulatory control mechanism in the parietal yolk sac. The thrombomodulin promoter as defined in this study will allow the targeting of gene expression to the parietal yolk sac of transgenic mice and the initiation of investigations into the role of parietal endoderm in placental function.  相似文献
