Hyperspectral remote sensing enables the large-scale mapping of canopy biochemical properties. This study explored the possibility of retrieving the concentration of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and sodium from mangroves in the Berau Delta, Indonesia. The objectives of the study were to (1) assess the accuracy of foliar chemistry retrieval, (2) compare the performance of models based on support vector regression (SVR), i.e. ?-SVR, ν-SVR, and least squares SVR (LS-SVR), to models based on partial least squares regression (PLSR), and (3) investigate which spectral transformations are best suited. The results indicated that nitrogen could be successfully modelled at the landscape level (R² = 0.67, root mean square error (RMSE) = 0.17, normalized RMSE (nRMSE) = 15%), whereas estimations of P, K, Ca, Mg, and Na were less encouraging. The developed nitrogen model was applied over the study area to generate a map of foliar N variation, which can be used for studying ecosystem processes in mangroves. While PLSR attained good results directly using all untransformed bands, the highest accuracy for nitrogen modelling was achieved using a combination of LS-SVR and continuum-removed derivative reflectance. All SVR techniques suffered from multicollinearity when using the full spectrum, and the number of independent variables had to be reduced by singling out the most informative wavelength bands. This was achieved by interpreting and visualizing the structure of the PLSR and SVR models.  相似文献

This study tackles a common, yet underrated problem in remote-sensing image analysis: the fact that human interpretation is highly variable among different operators. Despite current technological advancements, human perception and interpretation are still vital components of the map-making process. Consequently, human errors can considerably bias both mapping and modelling results. In our study, we present a web-based tool to quantify operator variability and to identify the human and external factors affecting this variability. Human operators were given a series of images and were asked to hand-digitize different point, line, and polygon objects. The quantification of performance variability was achieved using both thematic and positional accuracy measures. Subsequently, a series of questions related to demographics, experience, and personality were asked, and the answers were also quantified. Correlation and regression analysis was then used to explain the variability in operator performance. From our study, we conclude that: (1) humans were seldom perfect in visual interpretation; (2) some geographic objects were more complex to accurately digitize than others; (3) there was a high degree of variability among image interpreters when hand-digitizing the same objects; and (4) operator performance was mainly determined by demographic, non-cognitive, and cognitive personality factors, whereas external and technical factors influenced operator performance to a lesser extent. Finally, the results also indicated a gradual decline in performance over time, mimicking classical mental fatigue effects.  相似文献

This study presents the application of a semi-empirical approach, based on the Kubelka–Munk (K-M) model, to retrieve the total suspended matter (TSM) concentration of water bodies from ocean colour remote sensing. This approach is validated with in situ data sets compiled from the tropical waters of Berau estuary, Indonesia. Compared to a purely empirical approach, the K-M model provides better results in the retrieval of TSM concentration on both data sets (in situ and Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS)). In this study, the K-M model was calibrated with in situ measurements of remote-sensing reflectance (R rs) and TSM concentration. Next, the inverse K-M model was successfully applied to images taken by the MERIS instrument by generating regional maps of TSM concentration. MERIS top-of-atmosphere radiances were atmospherically corrected using the Moderate Spectral Resolution Atmospheric Transmittance (MODTRAN) radiative transfer model. The best correlation between R rs measured in situ and R rs MERIS was found to be at a wavelength of 620 nm. The TSM concentrations retrieved using the K-M model showed a lower root mean square error (RMSE), a higher coefficient of determination and a smaller relative error than those retrieved by the purely empirical approach.  相似文献

This paper presents a technology for dispensing droplets through thin liquid layers. The system consists of a free liquid film, which is suspended in a frame and positioned in front of a piezoelectric printhead. A droplet, generated by the printhead, merges with the film, but due to its momentum, passes through and forms a droplet that separates on the other side and continues its flight. The technology allows the dispensing, mixing and ejecting of picolitre liquid samples in a single step. This paper overviews the concept, potential applications, experiments, results and a numerical model. The experimental work includes studying the flight of ink droplets, which ejected from an inkjet print head, fly through a free ink film, suspended in a frame and positioned in front of the printhead. We experimentally observed that the minimum velocity required for the 80 pl droplets to fly through the 75 ± 24 μm thick ink film was of 6.6 m s?1. We also present a numerical simulation of the passage of liquid droplets through a liquid film. The numerical results for different initial speeds of droplets and their shapes are taken into account. We observed that during the droplet–film interaction, the surface energy is partially converted to kinetic energy, and this, together with the impact time, helps the droplets penetrate the film. The model includes the Navier–Stokes equations with continuum-surface-tension force derived from the phase-field/Cahn–Hilliard equation. This system allows us to simulate the motion of a free surface in the presence of surface tension during merging, mixing and ejection of droplets. The influence of dispensing conditions was studied and it was found that the residual velocity of droplets after their passage through the thin liquid film well matches the measured velocity from the experiment.  相似文献

This article reviews the (quasi)experimental research of the past decade on the learning effects of computer simulations in science education. The focus is on two questions: how use of computer simulations can enhance traditional education, and how computer simulations are best used in order to improve learning processes and outcomes. We report on studies that investigated computer simulations as a replacement of or enhancement to traditional instruction. In particular, we consider the effects of variations in how information is visualized, how instructional support is provided, and how computer simulations are embedded within the lesson scenario. The reviewed literature provides robust evidence that computer simulations can enhance traditional instruction, especially as far as laboratory activities are concerned. However, in most of this research the use of computer simulations has been approached without consideration of the possible impact of teacher support, the lesson scenario, and the computer simulation’s place within the curriculum.  相似文献

Studying how collaborative activity takes shape interactionally in the context of technological settings is one of the main challenges in the field of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL). It requires us, amongst other things, to look into the ??black box?? of how technical artifacts are brought into use, or rather, how they are attuned to, interacted with, and shaped in various and varied practices. This article explores the establishment of a purposeful connection of human agents and technical artifacts in CSCL, that we call ??the agent-artifact connection??. In order to contribute to a grounded conception of this connection, we reviewed three theoretical positions: affordance, structures and instrument. Although these three positions differ in how they conceptualise the connection, they share the assumption that a technical artifact carries a potential for action that becomes available when artifact and agent connect, and that the availability of action opportunities is relative to the ones who interact with the artifact. In this article, we map out the conceptual and methodological implications for each of the positions. We argue that the rationale of ??shaping?? collaborative interactions that underlies a part of CSCL research should be replaced by a rationale of ??mutual shaping?? of human agents and technical artifacts.  相似文献

Using a lexical-decision task performed by Dutch-English bilinguals, the author showed that the recognition of visually presented first language (L1; e.g., touw) and second language (L2; e.g., back) targets is facilitated by L2 and L1 masked primes, respectively, which are pseudohomophones (roap and ruch) of the target's translation equivalent (rope and rug). Moreover, recognition of L2 targets (e.g., church) was also facilitated by L1 pseudohomophones (pous) of related words (paus [pope]). Contrastingly, no priming was observed for L1 targets (e.g., been [leg]) and L2 pseudohomophone associative primes (knea). Finally, the author found that an L2 target word (e.g., corner) is facilitated by a more frequent L2 (intralingual) homophone (e.g., hook) of its L1 translation equivalent (hoek). These findings strongly suggest language-independent activation of phonological representations in bilinguals and are compatible with the temporal delay assumption of the bilingual interactive activation plus model (A. Inhibition of the 14q32 microRNAs, miR-329-3p and miR-495-3p, improves post-ischemic neovascularization. Cold-inducible RNA-binding protein (CIRBP) facilitates maturation of these microRNAs. We hypothesized that CIRBP deficiency improves post-ischemic angiogenesis via downregulation of 14q32 microRNA expression. We investigated these regulatory mechanisms both in vitro and in vivo. We induced hindlimb ischemia in Cirp−/− and C57Bl/6-J mice, monitored blood flow recovery with laser Doppler perfusion imaging, and assessed neovascularization via immunohistochemistry. Post-ischemic angiogenesis was enhanced in Cirp−/− mice by 34.3% with no effects on arteriogenesis. In vivo at day 7, miR-329-3p and miR-495-3p expression were downregulated in Cirp−/− mice by 40.6% and 36.2%. In HUVECs, CIRBP expression was upregulated under hypothermia, while miR-329-3p and miR-495-3p expression remained unaffected. siRNA-mediated CIRBP knockdown led to the downregulation of CIRBP-splice-variant-1 (CIRBP-SV1), CIRBP antisense long noncoding RNA (lncRNA-CIRBP-AS1), and miR-495-3p with no effects on the expression of CIRBP-SV2-4 or miR-329-3p. siRNA-mediated CIRBP knockdown improved HUVEC migration and tube formation. SiRNA-mediated lncRNA-CIRBP-AS1 knockdown had similar long-term effects. After short incubation times, however, only CIRBP knockdown affected angiogenesis, indicating that the effects of lncRNA-CIRBP-AS1 knockdown were secondary to CIRBP-SV1 downregulation. CIRBP is a negative regulator of angiogenesis in vitro and in vivo and acts, at least in part, through the regulation of miR-329-3p and miR-495-3p.  相似文献
