Abstract

Social mixing has been part of government policies regarding estate renewals in many countries. It is mostly achieved through tenure diversification, such as introducing privately owned and rented dwellings. Concurrently, in many residualized social housing sectors, larger shares of tenants now have high and complex needs, including recently settled refugees. Therefore, social and spatial manifestations of multiculture have become more complex. Consequently, a non-tenure-related form of social mixing, primarily one of cultural difference, occurs. This article considers the unintended effects of wider policies around resettlement of refugees in the context of estate renewal. This work presents the application of the Mahalanobis–Taguchi system (MTS) to variable detection in the manufacturing process of automotive pedals components. The combinatorial optimization problem of variable selection is solved by the application of Gompertz binary particle swarm optimization algorithm. Moreover, a numerical comparison with respect to other common version of binary particle swarm and binary ant colony optimization algorithms is presented followed by a discussion regarding the corresponding numerical results.  相似文献

A variable tuning system is presented for launching two electrostatic waves concurrently in a magnetized plasma. The purpose of this system is to satisfy the wave launching requirements for plasma applications where maximal power must be coupled into two carefully tuned electrostatic waves while minimizing erosion to the launching antenna. Two parallel LC traps with fixed inductors and variable capacitors are used to provide an impedance match between a two-wave source and a loop antenna placed outside the plasma. Equivalent circuit analysis is then employed to derive an analytical expression for the normalized, average magnetic flux density produced by the antenna in this system as a function of capacitance and frequency. It is found with this metric that the wave launcher can couple to electrostatic modes at two variable frequencies concurrently while attenuating noise from the source signal at undesired frequencies. An example based on an experiment for plasma heating with two electrostatic waves is used to demonstrate a procedure for tailoring the wave launcher to accommodate the frequency range and flux densities of a specific two-wave application. This example is also used to illustrate a method based on averaging over wave frequencies for evaluating the overall efficacy of the system. The wave launcher is shown to be particularly effective for the illustrative example--generating magnetic flux densities in excess of 50% of the ideal case at two variable frequencies concurrently--with a high adaptability to a number of plasma dynamics and heating applications.  相似文献

Complete orientation studies of X-band electron-paramagnetic-resonance spectra of crystals largely benefit from the possibility to measure the spectrum for any orientation of the magnetic field with respect to the crystal without the need to remount the crystal. We report on a modification of a commercial cryostat to allow such experiments down to liquid helium temperatures and demonstrate its performance.  相似文献

In the computer science community, data structure design is mainly conducted at a high level of abstraction under the implicit assumption that the platform contains a monolithic memory. Exploiting platform-related knowledge such as available on-chip and off-chip memory sizes, the cache size, and the number of banks is mainly conducted in the system engineering community when the refined data structure has already been chosen. A convergence of both communities is desirable since this can lead to powerful optimizations.To achieve the convergence mentioned above, data-related transformations have been researched extensively in the recent past. Many of these transformations have a direct and large impact on memory footprint, execution time and energy consumption. Unfortunately, however, the most effective transformations are applied manually (e.g. in C code) and these result in a very time-consuming and error-prone design process. To overcome this burden, our general research goal is to develop a computer-aided design tool, called , that helps the designer to correctly construct the C code of an efficient but difficult-to-understand data structure. Image registration is central to different applications such as medical analysis, biomedical systems, and image guidance. In this paper we propose a new algorithm for multimodal image registration. A Bayesian formulation is presented in which a likelihood term is defined using an observation model based on coefficient and geometric fields. These coefficients, which represent the local intensity polynomial transformations, as the local geometric transformations, are modeled as prior information by means of Markov random fields. This probabilistic approach allows one to find optimal estimators by minimizing an energy function in terms of both fields, making the registration between the images possible.  相似文献

Old-growth tropical forests are increasingly vanishing worldwide. Although the accurate quantification of tropical old-growth forests attributes is essential to understand, manage, and conserve their high diversity and biomass, conducting this task over large areas and at fine detail is not only expensive and time consuming, but also often practically impossible. This calls for the search for more efficient alternatives, particularly those based on remote sensing. In this study, we evaluate the potential of several surface metrics (tone and texture) extracted from very high resolution (VHR) satellite imagery to model the structural and diversity attributes of a tropical dry forest (TDF) in southern Mexico. We constructed simple linear models that used each forest attribute as dependent variables, and the tone and texture metrics extracted from several bands, the panchromatic (resolution = 0.5 m), red (R), infrared, and two vegetation indices (normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), enhanced vegetation index (EVI); resolution = 2 m), of a VHR image (GeoEye-1) as predictive variables. The significance of the models including one, two, two and its interaction, and three image metrics was evaluated by comparing them with null models. The structural characteristics of the TDF (basal area (BA), mean height, stem density) showed the highest modelling potential, with the goodness-of-fit (R2) values ranging from 0.58 to 0.66. Conversely, no significant models were obtained for total crown area (TCA) and all diversity attributes. Our results show that remote-sensing metrics detect the spatial variation in the structural attributes of this old-growth TDF better than they detect the variation in its diversity. Our ability to model forest attributes at large scales at fine detail (sampling plots <0.2 ha) can be much improved by combining the use of VHR imagery with an array as wide as possible of the image surface metrics, including both tone and texture.  相似文献

The Information Systems and Innovation Group at the London School of Economics has developed a distinct profile of social theory driven research across a wide range of mainstream and specialist IS topics. In this paper, we explain why we do not find existing IS journal rankings appropriate for the assessment of quality of the publications of our Group. We present a set of lists of internationally recognised outlets that we provide to the committee responsible for promotions decisions in our university and we use to advise junior staff and students on where they should publish their work. In addition to these lists, decisions on research quality in our university require the opinion of specialist experts on both the particular outlet of a publication and the publication itself. We argue for the merits of our research quality assessment approach and reflect on its risks.  相似文献

The success of using 2D Ruddlesden-Popper metal halide perovskites (MHPs) in optoelectronic devices has ignited great interest as means for energy level tuning at the interface with 3D MHPs. Inter alia, the application of 2D phenylethylammonium lead quaternary iodide (PEA2PbI4)/3D MHPs interfaces has improved various optoelectronic devices, where a staggered type-II energy level alignment is often assumed. However, a type-II heterojunction seems to contradict the enhanced photoluminescence observed for 2D PEA2PbI4/3D MHP interfaces, which raises fundamental questions about the electronic properties of such junctions. In this study, using direct and inverse photoelectron spectroscopy, it is revealed that a straddling type-I energy level alignment is present at 2D PEA2PbI4/3D methylammonium lead triiodide (MAPbI3) interfaces, thus explaining that the photoluminescence enhancement of the 3D perovskite is induced by energy transfer from the 2D perovskite. These results provide a reliable fundamental understanding of the electronic properties at the investigated 2D/3D MHP interfaces and suggest careful (re)consideration of the electronic properties of other 2D/3D MHP heterostructures.  相似文献
