Three types of pegylated amphiphilic copolymers of poly(δ‐valerolactone) (PVL) were copolymerized with methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (MePEG) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG4000 and PEG10,000), respectively. Pegylation of PVL allowed copolymers possessing amphiphilic property and efficiently self‐assembled to form micelles with a low critical micelle concentration (CMC) in the range of 10?7–10?8M. The average molecular weight of copolymers was in the range of 10,000–20,000 Da, and the polydispersity of copolymers was about 1.7–1.8. Higher mobility of low molecular weight PEG (i.e., MePEG and PEG4000) than high molecular weight PEG10,000 allowed valerolactone ring opening more efficient in terms of PVL/MePEG and PVL/PEG4000 copolymers possessing longer chain length in hydrophobic domain. Pegylated PVL with low CMC and triblock structure was preferred to encapsulate drug during micelle formation. Although all of these amphiphilic copolymers exhibited controlled release character, the micelles formed by triblock copolymer possessed a more stable core‐shell conformation than that by diblock copolymer, and resulted in the release of drug from triblock micelles slower than that from diblock micelles. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Feasible clinical application of any automated segmenting methodology demands more than just accuracy. Amendment to the automated delineation is necessary when the algorithm fails, however, integrated solution to such a scenario is largely absent in literature. Hence in this survey we devised an architecture that does both the automated and interactive lung field localizations using a single segmenting engine—random walker algorithm—so that intuitive amendment is only necessary when the automated generated delineation is unsatisfactory. The algorithm proceeds by first extracting 18 intensity profiles running horizontally, each of them equally spacing apart, and in each intensity profile three extreme points denoting the two lungs and the esophagus are determined through profile matching. This done, the algorithm removes profiles that do not intersect with the lung, and the rest of the extreme points are plugged into random walker algorithm to perform segmentation. The achieved accuracy in localization by the above was 0.8875 in terms of overlap measure (the maximum value for this parameter is 1) over 341 images. In the case where unsatisfactory delineation prompts amendment necessary, the user can interactively segment the lung by just a shift on some of the previous-determined points to the desired locations, and random walker algorithm is run again with the amended input. By such a fusion, the benefits of both the automated and interactive segmentation are shared in a single architecture.  相似文献

A new Coulomb friction compensator is proposed for servo control systems in this paper. The novelty of the new approach lies in its capability of assigning the eigenvalues of the resulting closed loop system while attacking the problem. First, based on the standard backstepping methodology, an implicit Lyapunov function, with part of the components being only symbolically constructed at the very beginning, is utilized. To increase the robustness of the system against disturbance and model inaccuracy, an integral term is employed in the design. Using part of the variable gradient method, we are able to turn the implicit Lyapunov function into an explicit one, which is positive definite, and whose time‐derivative is negative definite. Second, it will be shown that the resulting closed loop error system is a switched linear system with two possible active modes that share the same set of eigenvalues, which is at our disposal. Unlike the common adaptive control design methods, such as the Control Lyapunov Function approach, in which the gains are typically positive but otherwise arbitrary, and are hence difficult to choose and have a lack of connection with the system's performance, our new scheme imposes two further constraints on the gains. It turns out that we can then match these gains with the coefficients of the desired characteristic equation of the closed loop system. In this respect, the gains are linked to the system's overall performance, which is a new and very appealing feature for such a scheme. Finally, a procedure of constructing a common Lyapunov function is provided to prove exponential stability of the aforementioned switched linear system. In addition, using the invariance principle, we will show the convergence of the estimated Coulomb friction coefficient to its real value. Numerical simulations are given to validate the effectiveness of the design and its robustness against friction time‐variations. Compared to existing results, the proposed scheme is much simpler, hence, much more advantageous computationally. The analytic dispersion equations for the symmetric and antisymmetric saggital plane plate modes of a three-layer composite system are presented. The composite consists of a solid isotropic plate sandwiched between two acoustically thin (<0.02 lambda) isotopic solid layers, where lambda is the acoustic wavelength. The thin layers are considered either as the mass loading or the chemical selective coating layers for the plate wave sensors. Explicit formulas which identify the contributions of the elasticity and inertia effects for the phase velocity and mass loading sensitivity of the lowest symmetric (S(0)) and antisymmetric (A(0)) mode for the case where the thickness of the composite plate is much less than lambda are obtained. The amounts by which the elasticity of the thin layer and the inertia decrease the mass loading sensitivity is found for both sensors. It is also found that the sensitivity of the A(0) mode significantly depends on the operating frequency but that of the S(0) mode does not. Specific examples are given for the case of a fused silica plate sandwiched by two thin lucite layers.  相似文献

A material sensor based on differential spectroscopic absorption is proposed. The presence of a foreign material in a medium embodying the fiber sensor results in power attenuation at some particular wavelengths. This attenuation, which may be used for measuring the amount of the lossy material, is theoretically analyzed for the case of single-mode operation. A sensitivity analysis is carried out, and some design considerations are discussed.  相似文献

Immersion ultrasonic probes for measurements and imaging at high temperature are presented. The probes consist of sol-gel-sprayed thick films as piezoelectric ultrasonic transducers (UTs) directly deposited onto steel buffer rods. They operate in pulse-echo mode at temperatures up to 500/spl deg/C. The operating ultrasonic frequency is between 5 MHz and 20 MHz, controlled by the film thickness. The ultrasonic thickness measurement of a steel plate with the probe fully immersed in molten zinc at 450/spl deg/C was demonstrated using ultrasonic plane waves. For imaging purposes, the probing end of the steel buffer rod was machined into a semispherical concave shape to form an ultrasonic lens and achieve high spatial resolution with focused ultrasound in liquids. Ultrasonic surface and subsurface imaging using a mechanical raster scan of the focused probe in silicone oil at 200/spl deg/C was also carried out. The importance of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in the pulse-echo measurement is discussed.  相似文献

Texture filtering is essential in enhancing the visual quality of real-time rendering. Conventional schemes do not consider the characteristics of texture content, thus the sharpness of edges in texture images cannot be retained. This paper proposes a novel texture-filtering algorithm, which consists of edge-preserving interpolation and edge-preserving MIP-map prefiltering. The memory bandwidth requirement is kept the same as in conventional schemes by dynamically adjusting the interpolation kernel. Elevated levels of Mucin-16 (MUC16) in conjunction with a high expression of truncated O-glycans is implicated in playing crucial roles in the malignancy of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). However, the mechanisms by which such aberrant glycoforms present on MUC16 itself promote an increased disease burden in PDAC are yet to be elucidated. This study demonstrates that the CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genetic deletion of MUC16 in PDAC cells decreases tumor cell migration. We found that MUC16 enhances tumor malignancy by activating the integrin-linked kinase and focal adhesion kinase (ILK/FAK)-signaling axis. These findings are especially noteworthy in truncated O-glycan (Tn and STn antigen)-expressing PDAC cells. Activation of these oncogenic-signaling pathways resulted in part from interactions between MUC16 and integrin complexes (α4β1), which showed a stronger association with aberrant glycoforms of MUC16. Using a monoclonal antibody to functionally hinder MUC16 significantly reduced the migratory cascades in our model. Together, these findings suggest that truncated O-glycan containing MUC16 exacerbates malignancy in PDAC by activating FAK signaling through specific interactions with α4 and β1 integrin complexes on cancer cell membranes. Targeting these aberrant glycoforms of MUC16 can aid in the development of a novel platform to study and treat metastatic pancreatic cancer.  相似文献

The combination of antenna array beamforming with multiuser detection can effectively improve the detection efficiency of a wireless system under multipath interference, especially in a fast‐fading channel. This paper studies the performance of an adaptive beamformer incorporated with a block‐wise minimum mean square error(B‐MMSE) detector, which works on a unique signal frame characterized by training sequence preamble and data blocks segmented by zero‐bits. Both beam‐former weights updating and B‐MMSE detection are carried out by either least mean square (LMS) or recursive least square (RLS) algorithm. The comparison of the two adaptive algorithms applied to both beamformer and B‐MMSE detector will be made in terms of convergence behaviour and estimation mean square error. Various multipath patterns are considered to test the receiver's responding rapidity to changing multipath interference. The performance of the adaptive B‐MMSE detector is also compared with that of non‐adaptive version (i.e. through direct matrix inversion). The final performance in error probability simulation reveals that the RLS/B‐MMSE scheme outperforms non‐adaptive B‐MMSE by 1–5 dB, depending on the multipath channel delay profiles of concern. The obtained results also suggest that adaptive beamformer should use RLS algorithm for its fast and robust convergence property; while the B‐MMSE filter can choose either LMS or RLS algorithm depending on antenna array size, multipath severity and implementation complexity. The applications of ceramics are limited by their brittleness. Though the toughness of ceramics can be improved by adding hard and strong toughening agents, their damage tolerance is still poor. Novel concept derives from fish scale is explored and used to design alternative toughening agent. The microstructure of fish scale exhibits hierarchical complexity and many weak layers are present. As fish scales are used directly as the toughening agent, the toughness of ceramics can be enhanced. Furthermore, a new toughening mechanism involving crack deflection within fish scale is observed. Based on such observation, the toughening agents with internal weak interfaces are recommended as the toughening agent. Many ceramic/metal interfaces are present within the multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). The addition of MLCCs into brittle glass improves its crack resistance considerably.  相似文献
