The implicit Colebrook–White equation has been widely used to estimate the friction factor for turbulent fluid in irrigation pipes. A fast, accurate, and robust resolution of the Colebrook–White equation is, in particular, necessary for scientific intensive computations. In this study, the performance of some artificial intelligence approaches, including gene expression programming (GEP), which is a variant of genetic programming (GP); adaptive neurofuzzy inference system (ANFIS); and artificial neural network (ANN) has been compared to the M5 model tree, which is a data mining technique and, to most available approximations, is based on root mean squared error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE) and correlation coefficient (R). Results show that Serghides and Buzzelli approximations with RMSE (0.00002), MAE (0.00001), and R (0.99999) values had the best performances. Among the data mining and artificial intelligence approaches, the GEP with RMSE (0.00032), MAE (0.00026), and R (0.99953) values performed better. However, all 20 explicit approximations except Wood, Churchill (full range of turbulence including laminar regime) and Rau and Kumar estimated the friction factor more accurately than the GEP.  相似文献

Lateral-torsional buckling may occur in an unrestrained beam where its compression flange is free to displace laterally and rotate. This paper presents the results of the theoretical and finite element analyses of the lateral-torsional buckling of I-girders with corrugated webs and lateral bracing, under uniform bending. It is well known that an elastic lateral brace restricts partially the lateral buckling of slender beams and increases the elastic buckling moment. However, a full study of the effect of lateral braces on lateral-torsional buckling has not been made especially for I-girder with corrugated webs. This paper develops a three-dimensional finite element model using ANSYS [User’s manual, version 10.0] for the lateral-torsional buckling analysis of I-girder with corrugated webs and uses it to investigate the effects of elastic lateral bracing stiffness on the critical moment of simply supported I-girders with corrugated webs under pure bending. It was found that for plastic and inelastic I-girder with corrugated webs, the effect of bracing initially is increased to some extent as the lateral unbraced length increases and then decreased until the beam behaves as an elastic beam. In other words, the effect of bracing depends not only on the stiffness of the restraint but also on the modified slenderness of the I-girder. Also, the results show that Winter’s simplified method to determine full brace requirements cannot be applied to I-girders with corrugated webs. Therefore, a general equation is proposed to determine the value of optimum stiffness (Kopt) in terms of the I-girder’s slenderness.  相似文献

In recent years with regard to the development of nanotechnology and neural stem cell discovery, the combinatorial therapeutic strategies of neural progenitor cells and appropriate biomaterials have raised the hope for brain regeneration following neurological disorders. This study aimed to explore the proliferation and neurogenic effect of PLGA and PLGA–PEG nanofibers on human SH-SY5Y cells in in vitro condition. Nanofibers of PLGA and PLGA–PEG biomaterials were synthesized and fabricated using electrospinning method. Physicochemical features were examined using HNMR, FT-IR, and water contact angle assays. Ultrastructural morphology, the orientation of nanofibers, cell distribution and attachment were visualized by SEM imaging. Cell survival and proliferation rate were measured. Differentiation capacity was monitored by immunofluorescence staining of Map-2. HNMR, FT-IR assays confirmed the integration of PEG to PLGA backbone. Water contact angel assay showed increasing surface hydrophilicity in PLGA–PEG biomaterial compared to the PLGA substrate. SEM analysis revealed the reduction of PLGA–PEG nanofibers' diameter compared to the PLGA group. Cell attachment was observed in both groups while PLGA–PEG had a superior effect in the promotion of survival rate compared to other groups (p < .05). Compared to the PLGA group, PLGA–PEG increased the number of Ki67+ cells (p < .01). PLGA–PEG biomaterial induced neural maturation by increasing protein Map-2 compared to the PLGA scaffold in a three-dimensional culture system. According to our data, structural modification of PLGA with PEG could enhance orientated differentiation and the dynamic growth of neural cells.  相似文献

Modeling the buckling of multi walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) probes/actuators in the vicinity of thin and thick graphite has been carried out for the first time via two analytical approximation methods as well as a numerical one. A hybrid nano-scale continuum model based on Lennard-Jones potential is applied to simulate the intermolecular force-induced deflection of MWCNT. The critical values of MWCNT tip deflection and MWCNT-graphite attraction at the onset of the instability are computed. In addition, minimum nanotube-graphite initial gap and stable length of freestanding CNT are determined as basic parameters for engineering applications and nano-devices design. The stable length of MWCNT is determined as a function of its geometrical and material characteristics, initial gap and number of graphene layers.  相似文献

In this work, cristobalite crystallization and its effects on mechanical and chemical behaviour of injection moulded silica-based ceramic cores were investigated. In order to simulate casting process condition, the sintered samples at 1220 °C were also heated up to 1430 °C. Flexural strength test was carried out on both sintered and heat treated samples. Chemical resistance of the cores was evaluated by leaching the samples inside 43 wt% KOH solution at its boiling point. Phase evolution and microstructure were investigated by thermal analyses (DTA and DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy (OM). Results showed that cristobalite was crystallized on the surface of fused silica grains at about 1380 °C. Flexural strength of the sintered cores was decreased after simulated casting heat treatment due to cristobalite phase transformation. The formed cristobalite on the surface of fused silica grains dramatically decreased the leachability of ceramic cores.  相似文献

The technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) is a well-known multi-attribute decision making (MADM) method that is used to identify the most attractive alternative solution among a finite set of alternatives based on the simultaneous minimization of the distance from an ideal solution (IS) and the maximization of the distance from the nadir solution (NS). We propose an alternative compromise ratio method (CRM) using an efficient and powerful distance measure for solving the group MADM problems. In the proposed CRM, similar to TOPSIS, the chosen alternative should be simultaneously as close as possible to the IS and as far away as possible from the NS. The conventional MADM problems require well-defined and precise data; however, the values associated with the parameters in the real-world are often imprecise, vague, uncertain or incomplete. Fuzzy sets provide a powerful tool for dealing with the ambiguous data. We capture the decision makers’ (DMs’) judgments with linguistic variables and represent their importance weights with fuzzy sets. The fuzzy group MADM (FGMADM) method proposed in this study improves the usability of the CRM. We integrate the FGMADM method into a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis framework to show the applicability of the proposed method in a solar panel manufacturing firm in Canada.  相似文献

Schottky barrier diodes have been integrated into on-chip rectangular waveguides. Two novel techniques have been developed to fabricate diodes with posts suitable for integration into waveguides. One technique produces diodes with anode diameters of the order of microns with post heights from 90 to 125 microns and the second technique produces sub-micron anodes with post heights around 20 microns. A method has been developed to incorporate these structures into a rectangular waveguide and provide a top contact onto the anode which could be used as an I.F. output in a mixer circuit. An electro-deposition method was used for the preparation of nano-structured lead dioxide. The lead dioxide films prepared were used as positive electrodes of lead acid batteries. Different parameters such as pulse time (ton), pulse height, and relaxation time (toff) were optimized to obtain higher capacity. Depend on the pulse conditions, a range of different morphologies of various porosities and connectivity was obtained. The resulting batteries were discharged to a cut off voltage of 1.75 V by a pulsed current method. The energy storage ability of the prepared lead acid batteries shows a close relation with the morphology of cathode materials. Maximum capacity was observed when pulse and relaxation time was equal to 0.1 and 5 s, respectively, at a current density of 25 mA cm−2. A change in morphology of lead dioxide from aggregated globular structure to nanofiber was occurred. It was found that the high surface area as well as high connectivity between particles resulted in increased discharge capacity. Analysis of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) data revealed that the charge transfer resistance is decreased by a change in morphology from bulk globular to nanofiber as the energy storage test showed. The time dependence of impedance behavior of a sample prepared at ton = 0.1 s and toff = 5 s at 25 mA cm−2 was investigated and the results are discussed.  相似文献

Experimental data have been determined for proton ionization and partition of a series of hydroxyalkylamines and their hydrochloride salts between water and a hydrocarbon medium by direct phase contact.Strong correlations were observed to link both the degree of proton ionization and alkyl chain length on the one hand and the thermodynamics of transfer from water to a hydrocarbon environment on the other at certain investigated concentrations.Correlations were also studied between the antimicrobial effect in model aqueous metalworking fluids and oil/water (o/w) partitioning properties. In a synthetic fluid the octylamine derivatives in the antimicrobial evaluation experiments were found to be effective at low concentrations, even though o/w partition coefficients assumed low values under those conditions. In an emulsion type fluid, however, no antimicrobial activity was seen for the more oil soluble amines even at concentrations up to 1200 ppm. This effect is explained as a combined result of the formation of oil-soluble mixed micellar aggregates and the amine oil-solubility which acts to minimize amine concentration in the aqueous phase.Indirect evidence suggests that microbial uptake of these substances is a mediated process and that cross-membrane transport is accomplished by the formation of lipid-soluble complexes with anionic constituents of the membrane structure. At physiological pH values the present hydroxyalkylamines occur in cationic form and the degree of hydrophilic/hydrophobic substitution seems to determine partition across the membrane and thus promotes antimicrobial action.Calculated enthalpy values are seen to be dominant in disfavouring transfer of the butylamine derivatives from water to oil, while effects of self-association of the octylamine analogues make an interpretation of temperature variation effects on the o/w partition coefficient difficult for these compounds.  相似文献

In this study, the Geocoat™ technology was used for the extraction of zinc from a mineral concentrate obtained from the Kooshk mine (Yazd, Iran) by a culture dominated by the mesophilic bacterium Acidithiobacillusferrooxidans in a packed column bioreactor. A low grade sphalerite ore was used as support for the concentrate coating. During the 100 days of leaching pH, Fe3+, Fetotal, microbial population density and zinc extraction were measured. The final zinc extraction from concentrate and low grade support was 97% and 78%, respectively, and it was found that leaching from the support does not proceed significantly before leaching from the coating is completed.  相似文献
