We consider the problem of scheduling a set of jobs on a system that offers certain resource, wherein the amount of resource offered varies over time. For each job, the input specifies a set of possible scheduling instances, where each instance is given by starting time, ending time, profit and resource requirement. A feasible solution selects a subset of job instances such that at any timeslot, the total requirement by the chosen instances does not exceed the resource available at that timeslot, and at most one instance is chosen for each job. The above problem falls under the well-studied framework of unsplittable flow problem on line. The generalized notion of scheduling possibilities captures the standard setting concerned with release times and deadlines. We present improved algorithms based on the primal–dual paradigm, where the improvements are in terms of approximation ratio, running time and simplicity.  相似文献

On-line control of machine tool vibration in turning   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This paper presents a system developed for on-line vibration control on a turning lathe. Relative vibration between the workpiece and the cutting tool is sensed with the help of a bifurcated bunch of optical fibres which is then phase shifted, amplified and fed back to a specially designed piezoelectric vibrator supporting the tool. Whenever a vibration occurs, leading the machine tool-cutting process system to instability, the close-dloop feedback contour, with the help of the vibrator-exciter, generates an equal and opposite force to stabilize the vibration. Results obtained by mathematical modelling and experimental investigations indicate a significant improvement in the dynamic characteristics of the machine tool resulting in considerably higher productivity, accuracy and finish.  相似文献

In pre-labelled A549 cells epidermal growth factor (EGF) (10 nM) stimulates the release of [5,6,8,9,11,12,14,15-3H(N)]-arachidonic acid (3H-AA) by approximately 70%. Increasing Ca2+i with thapsigargin (50 nM) stimulates 3H-AA release by approximately 120%. However, the combined use of these two agents results in a synergistic stimulation of 3H-AA release by over 700%. The EGF stimulated release is sensitive to pertussis toxin (10 ng/mL) and guanosine 5'-O-(2-thiodiphosphate) suggesting a G protein-mediated event. This is supported by the fact that the G protein activators AlF-4 and guanosine 5'-O-(2-thiotriphosphate) both stimulate 3H-AA release. The stimulation of 3H-AA release by both EGF or direct G protein activation is completely blocked following pre-treatment for 3 hr with 1 nM dexamethasone. This effect is reversed with a neutralizing antibody to lipocortin-1 (1 microgram/mL) suggesting that this protein mediates the inhibitory effects of glucocorticoids on agonist activated 3H-AA release. Thapsigargin stimulation of 3H-AA release is insensitive to dexamethasone treatment. A peptide fragment from the N-terminus of lipocortin-1-Lc13-25 (20-200 micrograms/mL) mimics the effect of glucocorticoid in suppressing both EGF and G protein activated 3H-AA release. A peptide with Me-Tyr substituting Tyr21 is much reduced in activity suggesting that the presence of this residue is essential. As peptide Lc13-25 is not derived from the Ca2+/phospholipid binding domain of the native protein then sequestration of phospholipid substrate for PLA2 remains an unlikely mechanism of action for this peptide.  相似文献

The current study applied a fault tree analysis to represent the causal relationships among events and causes that contributed to fatal falls in the construction industry. Four hundred and eleven work-related fatalities in the Taiwanese construction industry were analyzed in terms of age, gender, experience, falling site, falling height, company size, and the causes for each fatality. Given that most fatal accidents involve multiple events, the current study coded up to a maximum of three causes for each fall fatality. After the Boolean algebra and minimal cut set analyses, accident causes associated with each falling site can be presented as a fault tree to provide an overview of the basic causes, which could trigger fall fatalities in the construction industry. Graphical icons were designed for each falling site along with the associated accident causes to illustrate the fault tree in a graphical manner. A graphical fault tree can improve inter-disciplinary discussion of risk management and the communication of accident causation to first line supervisors.  相似文献

Transient state response analysis of phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC) cathode is important to understand various competitive processes like diffusion, reaction and product back diffusion occurring at various layers of the composite cathode. A two-dimensional unsteady state model for simulating PAFC cathode is developed as an extension of the previously developed steady-state model [S. Roy Choudhury, M.B. Deshmukh, R. Rengaswamy, A two-dimensional steady-state model for phosphoric acid fuel cells (PAFC), J. Power sources 112 (2002) 137–152]. The transient model is solved to study the impact of various parameters such as Tafel slope, diffusivity etc on the step response of the fuel cell. The effect of partial pressure variation in bulk gas for large sized PAFC cathode is also analysed. Trend analysis based on the model output is also experimentally verified using a small unit cell setup. The effect of various parameters on the settling time of the cathode, as revealed in this study, suggests possible development of a diagnostic tool employing such transient model.  相似文献

A transient analysis has been carried out on a hybrid solar water heater which comprises a rock bed air heater with optimum design parameters in conjunction with an air-to-water transverse fin shell-and-tube heat exchanger (mixed air and unmixed water type) in which cold water from the storage tank receives heat from the hot air coming out of the air heater which flows in the shell at right angles to the water flowing in the tubes. The system's performance has been evaluated for typical winter weather conditions in Delhi for different combinations of flow rates of air and water for different volumes of the water storage tank. No hot water is assumed to be withdrawn from the tank to serve the load. A comparative analysis of the system's performance with and without a rock bed in the air heater reveals about 11°C higher temperature of storage tank in the former at 50 kg/h m2 air flow rate. With both the air heater types, although the system performance was observed to increase with the rates of air and water flow, no significant improvement in system performance was achieved at .  相似文献

Carbon nanotube addition has been shown to improve the mechanical properties of some polymers. Because of their unique adsorptive properties, carbon nanotubes may also improve the barrier performance of polymers used in contaminant containment. This study compares the barrier performance of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) membranes containing single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) to that for PVA containing powdered activated carbon (PAC). Raw and surface-functionalized versions of each sorbent were tested for their abilities to adsorb 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene and Cu(2+), representing the important hydrophobic organic and heavy metal contaminant classes, as they diffused across the PVA. In both cases, PAC (for 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene) and functionalized PAC (for Cu(2+)) outperformed SWCNTs on a per mass basis by trapping more of the contaminants within the barrier membrane. Kinetics of sorption are important in evaluating barrier properties, and poor performance of SWCNT-containing membranes as 1,2,4-TCB barriers is attributed to kinetic limitations.  相似文献

A solid state reaction method was used to synthesize barium titanate (BT) and barium cerium titanate (BCT) ceramics at sintering temperature of 1473 K for 4 h. The effect of cerium (Ce) on the structure, microstructure and dielectric properties of BCT was investigated. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) investigations revealed that the grain size increases with increasing Ce content. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns showed mostly the BT phase, where the lattice parameter decreased with the addition of Ce. The temperature dependence of dielectric constant showed decrease in the phase transition temperature with higher Ce content. The dielectric constant decreased slightly with increasing frequency. The direct current (dc) density-voltage characteristics of the ceramics showed ohmic behavior for both the BT and BCT. As the temperature increased, the dc resistivity of the ceramics decreased. The activation energy increased with increasing Ce content.  相似文献
