We present results of the first intercomparison of real-time instruments for gas/particle partitioning of organic species. Four recently-developed instruments that directly measure gas/particle partitioning in near-real time were deployed in Centreville, Alabama during the Southern Oxidant Aerosol Study (SOAS) in 2013. Two instruments were filter inlet for gases and aerosols high-resolution chemical ionization mass spectrometers (FIGAERO-HRToF-CIMS) with acetate (A-CIMS) and iodide (I-CIMS) ionization sources, respectively; the third was a semi-volatile thermal desorption aerosol GC-MS (SV-TAG); and the fourth was a high-resolution thermal desorption proton-transfer reaction mass spectrometer (HR-TD-PTRMS). Signals from these instruments corresponding to several organic acids were chosen for comparison. The campaign average partitioning fractions show good correlation. A similar level of agreement with partitioning theory is observed. Thus the intercomparison exercise shows promise for these new measurements, as well as some confidence on the measurement of low versus high particle-phase fractions. However, detailed comparison show several systematic differences that lie beyond estimated measurement errors. These differences may be due to at least eight different effects: (1) underestimation of uncertainties under low signal-to-noise; (2) inlet and/or instrument adsorption/desorption of gases; (3) differences in particle size ranges sampled; (4) differences in the methods used to quantify instrument backgrounds; (5) errors in high-resolution fitting of overlapping ion groups; (6) differences in the species included in each measurement due to different instrument sensitivities; and differences in (7) negative or (8) positive thermal decomposition (or ion fragmentation) artifacts. The available data are insufficient to conclusively identify the reasons, but evidence from these instruments and available data from an ion mobility spectrometer shows the particular importance of effects 6–8 in several cases. This comparison highlights the difficulty of this measurement and its interpretation in a complex ambient environment, and the need for further improvements in measurement methodologies, including isomer separation, and detailed study of the possible factors leading to the observed differences. Further intercomparisons under controlled laboratory and field conditions are strongly recommended.

Treatment of (tBu3SiNH)(tBu3SiN=)2WH ( 1 -H) with small alkyl anions (RM) afforded tungsten alkyl hydride anions [(tBu3SiNH)(tBu3SiN=)2HWR)]M ( 3 -(R)M: R=CH3, M=Li; R=nBu, M=Li; R=neoPe, M=Li; R=CH2Ph (Bn), M=K (two isomers); R=CCH, M=Na; R=CH=CH2 (Vy), M=Li). The saturated alkyl anions 3 -(R)M ( 3 -(R)M: R=CH3, M=Li; R=nBu, M=Li; R=neoPe, M=Li; R=CH2Ph (Bn), M=K) degraded via apparent 1,2-RH-elimination to produce the known [(tBu3SiN=)3WH]M ( 2 -HM), but the acetylide ( 3 -(C2H)Na) and vinyl ( 3 -(Vy)Li) anions converted to their hydrogenated isomers, [(tBu3SiN=)3WVy]Na ( 2 -VyNa) and [(tBu3SiN=)3WEt]Li ( 2 -EtLi), respectively. The structure of 3 -(nBu)Li is reported, and a discussion of tungsten-hydride coupling constants in tBu3SiX-ligated (X=O, NH, N) systems is given.  相似文献

Sleep restriction (SRT) and stimulus control (SC) have been found to be effective interventions for chronic insomnia (Morgenthaler et al., 2006), and yet adherence to SRT and SC varies widely. The objective of this study was to investigate correlates to adherence to SC/SRT among 40 outpatients with primary or comorbid insomnia using a correlational design. Participants completed a self-report measure of sleepiness prior to completion of a 6-week cognitive behavioral treatment group for insomnia. At the posttreatment period, they rated their ability to engage in SC/SRT using a survey. Results from standard multiple regression analyses showed that perceiving fewer barriers (i.e., less boredom, annoyance) to engaging in SC/SRT and experiencing less pretreatment sleepiness were each associated with better adherence to SC/SRT. Adherence to SC/SRT was associated with outcome. Implications of these findings are that more work is needed to make SC/SRT less uncomfortable, possibly by augmenting energy levels prior to introducing these approaches. A novel analytical method based on laser desorption postionization mass spectrometry (LDPI-MS) was developed to investigate the competence and sporulation factor-a pentapeptide of amino acid sequence ERGMT-within intact Bacillus subtilis biofilms. Derivatization of the neat ERGMT peptide with quinoline- and anthracene-based tags was separately used to lower the peptide ionization potential and permit direct ionization by 7.87-eV vacuum ultraviolet radiation. The techniques of mass shifting and selective ionization of the derivatized peptide were combined here to permit detection of ERGMT peptide within intact biofilms by LDPI-MS, without any prior extraction or chromatographic separation. Finally, imaging MS specific to the derivatized peptide was demonstrated on an intact biofilm using LDPI-MS. The presence of ERGMT in the biofilms was verified by bulk extraction/LC-MS. However, MALDI imaging MS analyses were unable to detect ERGMT within intact biofilms.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To determine the effect of massive intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) on regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and metabolism, and to test the hypothesis that there is persistent ischemia in the perihematoma region after ICH. BACKGROUND: Cerebral ischemia is postulated to be one of the mechanisms of neural injury after ICH. Presumably the hematoma induces ischemia by mechanical compression of the surrounding microvasculature. METHODS: The authors induced ICH in eight anesthetized mongrel dogs by autologous blood injection (7.5 mL) under arterial pressure in the deep white matter adjacent to the left basal ganglia. They measured serial rCBF using radiolabeled microspheres in regions around and distant to the hematoma, as well as cerebral oxygen extraction, oxygen consumption (CMRO2), glucose utilization, and lactate production by serial sampling of cerebral venous blood from the sagittal sinus. Mean arterial pressure (MAP) and intracranial pressure (ICP) were monitored continuously. All measurements were recorded at 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.5, and 5.0 hours after induction of ICH and compared with prehematoma values. Evans Blue dye was injected at the end of the experiment, and intensity of staining was compared with three control animals. RESULTS: Compared with prehematoma ICP (12.5+/-2.0 mm Hg, mean+/-standard error), significant elevation in ICP was observed after ICH peaking at 5 hours (34.4+/-5.2 mm Hg). Compared with prehematoma MAP (125.8+/-7.0 mm Hg), significant elevation in MAP was observed at 120 minutes after onset of hematoma (139.1+/-4.6 mm Hg), with return to the prehematoma value by 5 hours. There were no significant changes observed in cerebral oxygen extraction (51.4+/-4.3% versus 44.8+/-4.9%) and CMRO2 (1.8+/-0.3 versus 1.64+/-0.2 mL O2/100 g/min) at 5 hours posthematoma (or any other posthematoma measurement) compared with prehematoma values. There were no significant differences observed in rCBF in the perihematoma gray (18.2+/-0.9 mL/100 g/min versus 20.1+/-1.5 mL/100 g/min) or white matter (15.6+/-1.4 mL/100 g/min versus 15.3+/-1.1 mL/100 g/min) at 5 hours posthematoma (or any other posthematoma measurement) compared with prehematoma values. No changes were observed in cerebral glucose utilization, lactate production, and rCBF in other regions after introduction of ICH. Permeability of the blood-brain barrier was more prominent in the ipsilateral hemisphere in animals with ICH compared with control animals. CONCLUSIONS: Despite a prominent increase in ICP and MAP after ICH, the authors found no evidence to support the presence of an ischemic penumbra in the first 5 hours after ICH. Thus, other mechanisms for acute neural injury and late rCBF changes after ICH must be investigated.  相似文献

Biotin and biotinylated self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold have been investigated using time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry, direct laser desorption, laser desorption with 193 nm photoionization of ion- and laser-desorbed species, and laser desorption with vacuum ultraviolet (VUV, 118 nm) photoionization. Our results indicate that direct laser desorption and laser desorption combined with 193 nm multiphoton ionization can detect a chromophoric molecule like biotin that is covalently bound to a SAM. However, secondary ion mass spectra were dominated by fragmentation, and ion desorption/193 nm photoionization detected no species related to biotin. The dominant features of the laser desorption/VUV mass spectra were neat and Au-complexed dimers of intact and fragmented biotinylated SAM molecules. Multiphoton and single-photon ionization of laser-desorbed neutrals from biotinylated SAMs both led to the production of ions useful for chemical analysis of the monolayer. Multiphoton ionization with ultraviolet radiation was experimentally less challenging but required a chromophore for ionization and resulted in significant fragmentation of the adsorbate. Single-photon ionization with VUV radiation was experimentally more challenging but did not require a chromophore and led to less fragmentation. X-ray photoelectron spectra indicated that the biotinylated SAM formed a disordered, 40-60 ? thick monolayer on Au. Additionally, projection photolithography with a Schwarzschild microscope was used to pattern the biotinylated SAM surface and laser desorption/photoionization was used to detect biotinylated adsorbates from the ~10 μm sized pattern.  相似文献

While most performance metrics of high-explosive (HE) based devices like detonation velocity, detonation pressure, and energy output are expected to degrade over time, the evolution of initiation threshold appears less clear, with claims of both increasing and decreasing trends in threshold having been made in the literature. This work analyzes D-optimally designed sequential binary test data for a few thermally conditioned porous-powder and polymer-bonded HE initiator systems using a Bayesian likelihood method employing the probit regression model. We find that in most cases the initiation threshold decreases (i. e., sensitivity increases) upon accelerated thermal conditioning. However, such results are nuanced and influenced by factors like the contact area of initiating stimulus, HE characteristics like density and specific surface area, as well as possible thermally induced changes to other materials and interfaces involved.  相似文献

This driving simulator study investigated how mandatory and voluntary ISA might affect a driver's overtaking decisions on rural roads, by presenting drivers with a variety of overtaking scenarios designed to evaluate both the frequency and safety of the manoeuvres. In half the overtaking scenarios, ISA was active and in the remainder ISA was switched off. A rural road was modelled with a number of 2 + 1 road sections, thus allowing drivers a protected overtaking opportunity. The results indicate that drivers became less inclined to initiate an overtaking manoeuvre when the mandatory ISA was active and this was particularly so when the overtaking opportunity was short. In addition to this, when ISA was activated drivers were more likely to have to abandon an overtaking, presumably due to running out of road. They also spent more time in the critical hatched area—a potentially unsafe behaviour. The quality of the overtaking manoeuvre was also affected when mandatory ISA was active, with drivers pulling out and cutting back in more sharply. In contrast, when driving with a voluntary ISA, overtaking behaviour remained mostly unchanged: drivers disengaged the function in approximately 70% of overtaking scenarios. The results of this study suggest that mandatory ISA could affect the safety of overtaking manoeuvres unless coupled with an adaptation period or other driver support functions that support safe overtaking.  相似文献

We present a study of InAs nanowire (NW) growth with shape-controlled Au seed particles. In comparison to more conventional spherical particles, the highly faceted, shaped Au particles are found to enhance the initial growth kinetics of InAs NWs at identical growth conditions. Analysis of the NWs after growth by transmission electron microscopy and energy-dispersive spectroscopy suggests that while In diffuses into the bulk of the shaped Au particles, in accordance with the vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) growth mechanism, the surface faceting is preserved. A key difference is that the shaped Au particles are characterized by a thicker In shell on their surfaces than the spherical Au particles, indicating that increased adsorption of In leads to the observed growth rate enhancement. On the basis of these results, we propose that our picture of VLS growth in regards to liquefaction and droplet formation is incomplete and that the initial particle morphology can be used to tailor NW growth.  相似文献

Much research has found that positive affect facilitates increased reliance on heuristics in cognition. However, theories proposing distinct evolutionary fitness-enhancing functions for specific positive emotions also predict important differences among the consequences of different positive emotion states. Two experiments investigated how six positive emotions influenced the processing of persuasive messages. Using different methods to induce emotions and assess processing, we showed that the positive emotions of anticipatory enthusiasm, amusement, and attachment love tended to facilitate greater acceptance of weak persuasive messages (consistent with previous research), whereas the positive emotions of awe and nurturant love reduced persuasion by weak messages. In addition, a series of mediation analyses suggested that the effects distinguishing different positive emotions from a neutral control condition were best accounted for by different mediators rather than by one common mediator. These findings build upon approaches that link affective valence to certain types of processing, documenting emotion-specific effects on cognition that are consistent with functional evolutionary accounts of discrete positive emotions.
