Notches were machined in specimens of INCONEL 718 by a broaching process, where differing broaching runs led to differing
extents of subsurface deformation and surface roughness. Fatigue tests were carried out at 600 °C with a trapezoidal loading
waveform at 0.25 Hz. The broaching process that led to the more severe subsurface deformation (but lower surface roughness)
showed the worst fatigue performance. Analysis of total strain amplitude in the notch root with the aid of an elastoplastic
finite-element (FE) model showed that the work hardening related to the subsurface deformation caused by the different broaching
can account for the difference in fatigue lives. Differences in initiation and growth behavior were seen for the two broached
finishes as well as for broached and subsequently polished samples. These differences are discussed in terms of a change in

The purpose of this study is to apply continuum damage mechanics – introduced through the concept of fabric tensors – to composite materials within the framework of the theory of elasticity. A directional data model of damage mechanics for composite materials will be developed using fabric tensors. The introduction of fabric tensors into the analysis of damage of composite materials will allow for an enhanced and better understood physical meaning of damage. The micromechanical approach will be used here to relate the damage effect through fabric tensors to the behavior of composite materials. In this approach, damage mechanics is introduced separately to the constituents of the composite material through different constituents’ damage effect tensors. The damaged properties of the composite system as a whole can then be obtained by proper homogenization of the damaged properties of the constituents.
The derivation of a generalized formulation of damage evolution will be shown here in a mathematically consistent manner that is based on sound thermodynamic principles. Numerical examples will be presented to show applicability. In addition, damage evolution for the one-dimensional tension case is also illustrated. 相似文献

Glyconanoparticles which present carbohydrate and amino groups motifs at their surface were produced. These particles were highly stable and soluble in aqueous solutions. The presence of the carbohydrate groups also allowed the inclusion of more strongly binding groups, without affecting solubility. The binding of a model DNA, plasmid by these nanoparticles was studied by atomic force microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and gel electrophoresis. Significant differences between the nanoparticles based on their affinities for the DNA were found, with implications for their potential use as nonviral gene delivery agents. 相似文献

Electrophoretic deposition of electrolyte materials for solid oxide fuel cells, including La0.8Sr0.2Ga0.875Mg0.125O3–x
, yttria stabilized zirconia and (Ce0.8Gd0.2)O1.9, was studied under various experimental conditions. The use of phosphate ester as a dispersant and poly (vinyl butyral) as a binder enabled high deposition rate and formation of crack-free, adherent deposits. Electrodeposition rates were quantified in experiments performed at constant current and constant voltage modes from suspensions in ethanol, isopropanol and mixed ethanol—isopropanol solvents. The microstructure of as prepared and sintered deposits was studied by electron microscopy. The bath composition was optimized to enable formation of dense deposits. 相似文献

β-FeSi2 layers have been successfully grown using a molten salt method for the first time. It was found that single phase and homogeneous β-FeSi2 layers with a columnar domain structure can be grown on FeSi substrates. The layer thickness was demonstrated to be controllable by the growth temperature and time, and was diffusion controlled. It was shown that the layers were void- and crack-free compared to similar layers grown on Fe substrates: this difference is explained in terms of Fe diffusion. This vacuum-free simple growth technique is useful for the fabrication of large area semiconductor devices at low cost. 相似文献

The true outgassing from surfaces is often masked by the production of gases and pumping within the measuring gauge. Quadrupole mass analysers have been used to measure the outgassing from carefully prepared samples of stainless steel. By using an isolation pressure rise technique coupled to non-evaporable getter pumping, the problem of production of methane by the gauge is overcome and it has been possible to measure the outgassing of methane to very low levels. The specific outgassing rate of methane from 316 L stainless steel is found to be ?5×10−22 mbar l s−1 cm−2. The outgassing of the other gases has been measured using several gauges. The specific outgassing of hydrogen is found to be 4.5×10−15 mbar l s−1 cm−2 and the total of all other gasses amounted to no more than 10% of this figure. Although the measurements of the other gases are more ambiguous than those for methane, it is concluded that, in all probability, only hydrogen is outgassed from stainless steel. 相似文献

We have measured the thermal contact conductance of several demountable copper joints below 1 K. Joints were made by bolting together either two flat surfaces or a clamp around a rod. Surfaces were gold plated, and no intermediate materials were used. A linear dependence on temperature was seen. Most of the measured conductance values fell into a narrow range: 0.1-0.2 W K−1 at 1 K. Results in the literature for similar joints consist of predictions based on electrical resistance measurements using the Wiedemann-Franz law. There is little evidence of the validity of this law in the case of joints. Nevertheless, our results are in good agreement with the literature predictions, suggesting that such predictions are a reasonable approximation. 相似文献

Critical heat fluxes (CHFs) were measured for two types of rectangular ducts containing horizontal flat plate heaters. One has the flat plate heater of 6 mm wide and 20 mm long located on the inner lower wall at 50 mm from the inlet. The other duct has two horizontal flat plates of 6 mm wide and 20 mm long on inner upper and lower walls at 50 mm from the inlet. The equation of CHF for the forced convection containing a new nondimensional-parameter m introduced in order to calculate cross-sectionally averaged liquid temperature at the center of the duct was derived based on two fluid model, ordinary convection theorem and experimental results. It was confirmed that this correlation can describe not only the author's data on the duct but also other worker's data for channels with different shapes and sizes. 相似文献
