Novel behaviors arising from the coupling between the built-in surface electric field, piezoelectricity, electron-hole pairs and external light beam were observed in GaN nanorods. An increase in the optical excitation density resulted in a blueshift in the photoluminescence spectra and a redshift in the frequency of the GaN A(1)(LO) phonon. The underlying mechanism was attributed to the screening of the built-in surface electric field by photoexcited carriers and, through the converse piezoelectric effect, a reduction in the internal strain. The existence of the built-in surface electric field in GaN nanorods was confirmed by scanning Kelvin probe microscopy. Our results firmly establish the existence of the photoelastic effect in GaN nanorods. In addition to underpinning the principle for applications in nanophotonic devices, this discovery also draws attention to the novel effects arising from the inherent large surface-to-volume ratio of nanostructures, which is possibly applicable to many other nanomaterials.  相似文献

Toluene extraction enhanced by salting-out effect was employed to recover dinitrotoluene isomers and 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (2,4,6-TNT) from wastewater of toluene nitration processes (e.g. dinitration or trinitration). The batchwise experiments were conducted to elucidate the influence of various operating variables on the extracting performance, including concentrations and species of inorganic salts, such as NaCl, KCl, Na(2)SO(4), K(2)SO(4) and MgSO4, acidity of wastewater, volume ratios of solvent versus wastewater and extraction stages in existence of inorganic salts. It was found that recovery of total organic compounds (TOC) was significantly elevated with increasing concentrations of salts, whose promoting effects were in the following order: NaCl>Na(2)SO(4)>K(2)SO(4)>MgSO4>KCl on the weight basis of wastewater. Besides, high volume ratio of toluene/wastewater (ca. 2.0) was more suitable for recovery of TOC from wastewater with or without addition of NaCl, of which extractable priority was as follows: 2,6-DNT>2,4-DNT>2,4,6-TNT. It is remarkable that TOC in wastewater would be almost completely recovered by sequential four stages toluene extraction, promoted continuously by salting-out effect.  相似文献

A series of C2-modified 10-deacetyl-7-propionyl cephalomannine derivatives was designed, prepared, and biologically evaluated. Some C2 meta-substituted benzoate analogues showed potent activity against both drug-sensitive and drug-resistant tumor cells in which resistance is mediated through either P-gp overexpression or beta-tubulin mutation mechanisms. The taxoid 15 b and related compounds are of particular interest, as they are much more cytotoxic than paclitaxel, especially against drug-resistant tumor cells; they are able to kill both drug-resistant and drug-sensitive cells (low R/S ratio), and they have high affinity for beta-tubulin. Our research results led to an important hypothesis, that is, a taxane with very high binding affinity for beta-tubulin is able to counteract drug resistance, which may assist in future taxane-based drug-discovery efforts.  相似文献

The metabolism of myeloma cells was altered to reduce lactate production in consecutive fed-batch cultures. The glucose concentration was maintained at low levels (0.28-0.55 mM) by employing a dynamic nutrient feeding method based on on-line measurement of the oxygen uptake rate (OUR) to estimate the metabolic demand of the cells. This strategy has been previously reported to be applied to cultures of hybridoma cells, in which the production of lactate was significantly reduced by thus maintaining the glucose concentration at low levels. However, for this cell line, a single fed-batch culture was not sufficient to alter the cellular metabolism, even at a glucose concentration of 0.28 mM. Two consecutive fed-batch cultures were employed to ensure that the cells were cultivated under a low glucose concentration for a sufficiently prolonged period of time to allow a switch of the cellular metabolism from a glycolytic (high lactate production) to oxidative (low lactate production) state.  相似文献

A widespread proteomics procedure for characterizing a complex mixture of proteins combines tandem mass spectrometry and database search software to yield mass spectra with identified peptide sequences. The same peptides are often detected in multiple experiments, and once they have been identified, the respective spectra can be used for future identifications. We present a method for collecting previously identified tandem mass spectra into a reference library that is used to identify new spectra. Query spectra are compared to references in the library to find the ones that are most similar. A dot product metric is used to measure the degree of similarity. With our largest library, the search of a query set finds 91% of the spectrum identifications and 93.7% of the protein identifications that could be made with a SEQUEST database search. A second experiment demonstrates that queries acquired on an LCQ ion trap mass spectrometer can be identified with a library of references acquired on an LTQ ion trap mass spectrometer. The dot product similarity score provides good separation of correct and incorrect identifications.  相似文献

Considerable intrinsic intrapatient variability influences the actual delivery of Kt/V. The aim of this study is to examine the feasibility of using continuous online assessment of ionic dialysance measurements (Kt/V(ID)) to allow dialysis sessions to be altered on an individual basis. Ten well-established chronic hemodialysis (HD) patients without significant residual renal function were studied (mean age 65+/-4.3 [38-81] years, mean length of time on dialysis 66+/-18 [14-189] months). These patients had all been receiving thrice-weekly 4-hr dialysis using Integra dialysis monitors. Dialysis monitors were equipped with Diascan modules permitting measurement of Kt/V(ID). Predicted treatment time required to achieve a Kt/V(ID) > or = 1.1 (equivalent to a urea-based method of 1.2) was calculated from the delivered Kt/V(ID) at 60 and 120 min. Treatment time was reprogrammed at 2 hr (ensuring all planned ultrafiltration would be accommodated into the new modified session duration). Owing to practical issues, and to avoid excessively short dialysis times, these changes were censored at no more than+/-10% of the usual 240-min treatment time (210-265 min). Data were collected from a total of 50 dialysis sessions. Almost all sessions (47/50) required modification of the standard treatment time: 13/50 sessions were lengthened and 34/50 shortened (mean length of session 232.2+/-2.5 [210-265] min). A Kt/V(ID) of > or = 1.1 was achieved in 39/50 sessions. The difference in mean urea-based Kt/V poststudy (1.3+/-0.05 [1.1-1.6]) and mean achieved Kt/V(ID) (1.16+/-0.02 [0.7-1.37]) was significant (p = 0.002). The use of individualized variable dialysis treatment time using online ionic dialysance measurements of Kt/V(ID) appears both practicable and effective at ensuring consistently delivered adequate dialysis.  相似文献

We proposed and developed an exfoliation process for layer-structured NaxCoO2 to prepare CoO nanosheets. Na+ ion exchange by acid treatment was utilized to expand the spacing between the two CoO2 layers in NaxCoO2. Ethylamine was then effectively utilized for the exfoliation of cobalt oxide sheets having nanometer-order thickness and high aspect ratio. CoO nanosheets were observed by TEM micrographs and electron diffraction patterns after drying. Further efforts are needed for the application of exfoliated sheets to an integration process to fabricate self-assembled nanomaterials such as desired layer structures composed of two (or more) kinds of nanosheets.  相似文献

The scintillation measured over close-to-ground retro-reflector links can be substantially enhanced due to the correlations experienced by both the direct and reflected echo beams. Experiments were carried out at China Lake, California, over a variety of ranges. The emphasis in this paper is on presenting the data from the 1.1?km retro-reflecting link that was operated for four consecutive days. The dependence of the measured irradiance flux variance on the solar fluence and on the temperature gradient above the ground is presented. The data are consistent with scintillation minima near sunrise and sunset, rising rapidly during the day and saturating at irradiance flux variances of ~10. Measured irradiance probability distributions of the retro-reflected beam are compared with standard probability density functions. The ratio of the irradiance flux variances on the retro-reflected to the direct, single-pass case is investigated with two data sets, one from a monostatic system and the other using an off-axis receiver system.  相似文献

Using light to exchange information offers large bandwidths and high speeds, but the miniaturization of optical components is limited by diffraction. Converting light into electron waves in metals allows one to overcome this problem. However, metals are lossy at optical frequencies and large-area fabrication of nanometer-sized structures by conventional top-down methods can be cost-prohibitive. We show electromagnetic energy transport with gold nanoparticles that were assembled into close-packed linear chains. The small interparticle distances enabled strong electromagnetic coupling causing the formation of low-loss subradiant plasmons, which facilitated energy propagation over many micrometers. Electrodynamic calculations confirmed the dark nature of the propagating mode and showed that disorder in the nanoparticle arrangement enhances energy transport, demonstrating the viability of using bottom-up nanoparticle assemblies for ultracompact opto-electronic devices.  相似文献
