Pt-doped Pd nanoparticle catalysts (Pd n Pt, n is 12, 15 and 19) supported on carbon were synthesized by an ultrasound assisted polyol method. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The electrochemical activity of the electrocatalysts was investigated in terms of formic acid oxidation reaction (FAOR) at low concentration of formic acid in 0.1 M perchloric acid at room temperature. Formic acid oxidation on the Pd n Pt/C commences at lower potential than a commercial Pt/C. Pd19Pt/C catalyst showed the highest catalytic activity in FAOR compared to that of other catalysts. The obtained electrochemical results from voltammograms indicate that Pt-doped Pd catalysts can be a promising candidate for the anode material in direct formic acid fuel cells. The synthesis procedure is not only a very facile route but also a mass producible method for preparing carbon supported alloy nanoparticles. 相似文献

The removal of metsulfuron methyl (MeS)—a sulfonyl urea herbicide from contaminated water was investigated by advanced oxidation process (AOP) using Fenton method. The optimum dose of Fenton reagent (Fe2+/H2O2) was 10 mg/L Fe2+ and 60 mg/L H2O2 for an initial MeS concentration ([MeS]0) range of 0–80 mg/L. The Fenton process was effective under pH 3. The degradation efficiency of MeS decreased by more than 70% at pH > 3 (pH 4.5 and 7). The initial Fe2+ concentration ([Fe2+]0) in the Fenton reagent affected the degradation efficiency, rate and kinetics. The degradation of MeS at optimum dose of Fenton reagent was more than 95% for [MeS] 0 of 0–40 mg/L and the degradation time was less than 30 min. The determination of residual MeS concentration after Fenton oxidation by UV spectrophotometry was affected by the interferences from Fenton reagent. The estimation of residual MeS concentration after Fenton oxidation by high pressure/performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC) was interference free and represented the actual concentration of MeS and does not include the by-products of Fenton oxidation. The degradation kinetics of MeS was modelled by second order reactions involving 8 rate constants. The two reaction constants directly involving MeS were fitted using the experimental data and the remaining constants were selected from previously reported values. The model fit for MeS and the subsequent prediction of H2O2 were found to be within experimental error tolerances. 相似文献

The first reconfigurable colorimetric DNA switches based on target DNA binding are reported. This DNA binding actuates a change in the interparticle distance between gold nanoparticle dimers. A significant spectral shift of 68 nm is achievable from on‐off switching. The reconfigurability is possible owing to thiol and EDC‐imidazole coupling which anchors the DNA linkers to the nanoparticles. The huge spectral shift allows the unaided eye to observe single target biomolecular binding event in real time under a darkfield microscope. The limit‐of‐detection for target molecules in PBS and human serum are 10?13 M and 10?11 M respectively. An improved fabrication strategy via asymmetric functionalization is also described, assisted by solid phase synthesis which minimizes the formation of trimers and multimers. 相似文献

The effect of rain on the microwave systems is more critical especially for countries located in tropical and equatorial region that experience high rainfall rate throughout the year. In order to predict a reliable and an accurate rain prediction model, it is required to determine the one-minute integration time of rainfall rate together with direct measurement of rain attenuation. In order to counter the current trend of employing higher frequencies especially in tropical and equatorial regions, there is an urgent need to carry out studies related to the effect of rain in order to get a better rain attenuation prediction model. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of rain on terrestrial microwave system operating at 26?GHz in Malaysia. The rain intensity with one minute integration time is measured at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia-Skudai (UTM-Skudai) and 99 rain gauges located throughout the Peninsular Malaysia. This study explains the detailed experimental set up and analyses of both rain rate and rain attenuation measurements. The analysis on large-scale study area includes the comparisons between the measured rainfall data and the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) rainfall data and also with the Malaysia Meteorological Services (MMS) rainfall data. This study has successfully proposed a new rain rate and rain attenuation prediction model and the obtained results show satisfactory performance and good agreement. 相似文献

We analyze a wideband spectrum in a cognitive radio (CR) network by employing the optimal adaptive multiband sensing‐time joint detection framework. This framework detects a wideband M‐ary quadrature amplitude modulation (M‐QAM) primary signal over multiple nonoverlapping narrowband Gaussian channels, using the energy detection technique so as to maximize the throughput in CR networks while limiting interference with the primary network. The signal detection problem is formulated as an optimization problem to maximize the aggregate achievable secondary throughput capacity by jointly optimizing the sensing duration and individual detection thresholds under the overall interference imposed on the primary network. It is shown that the detection problems can be solved as convex optimization problems if certain practical constraints are applied. Simulation results show that the framework under consideration achieves much better performance for M‐QAM than for binary phase‐shift keying or any real modulation scheme. 相似文献

A time interleaved differential phase shift keying (DPSK) remodulation technique is proposed to mitigate the effect of Rayleigh backscattering (RBS)-induced noise in a single fiber colorless wavelength-division-multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON). In order to achieve a cost effective optical network unit (ONU) solution without dedicated laser sources for upstream signals to provide optimum symmetric capacity in a colorless WDM-PON, remodulation becomes the core attraction. Also as the performance of colorless WDM-PON systems suffers from the transmission impairments due to RBS, it is mitigated by using this remodulation scheme. Simulation results show that downstream and upstream signals achieve the error-free performance at 10 Gbit/s with negligible penalty, and enhance the tolerance to RBS-induced noise over a 25 km single-mode fiber. 相似文献

The influence of the external Rayleigh number, inclination angle, and internal Rayleigh number on natural convection within an air‐filled parallelogrammic enclosure containing a volumetric source has been investigated numerically. The left sidewall of the enclosure is subjected to a non‐uniformly hot temperature and the right sidewall experiences a uniform cold temperature while the remaining top and bottom walls are kept adiabatic. The physical problems are represented mathematically by various sets of governing equations along with the corresponding boundary conditions. Buoyancy forces are taken into account during the analysis of the present investigation. By using the finite volume method, the dimensionless governing equations are discretized numerically based on a non‐uniform collocated grid system. Results are obtained for a wide range of external Rayleigh numbers varying from 103 to 106 with internal Rayleigh numbers varying from (0) to (108) while the left sidewall from vertical is varied as 0, 30, –30, 60, and ?60°, respectively. In the present study, the obtained results are presented in terms of streamlines, isotherms, and average Nusselt number along the hot and cold sidewalls. Two pairs of rotating vortices are observed due to the non‐uniform heating process while the shape of this rotating vortices is sensitive to the inclination angle. Furthermore, the flow field circulation and the average Nusselt number increase remarkably with the increase in the external Rayleigh number. In view of increasing attempts for the production of renewable energy, the production of biohydrogen energy by a new mesophilic bacterium Clostridium sp. YM1 was performed for the first time in the dark fermentation. Experimental results showed that the fermentative hydrogen was successfully produced by Clostridium sp. YM1 with the highest cumulative hydrogen volume of 3821 ml/L with a hydrogen yield of 1.7 mol H2/mol glucose consumed. Similar results revealed that optimum incubation temperature and pH value of culture medium were 37 °C and 6.5, respectively. The study of hydrogen production from glucose and xylose revealed that this strain was able to generate higher hydrogen from glucose compared to that from xylose. The profile of volatile fatty acids produced showed that hydrogen generation by Clostridium sp. YM1 was butyrate-type fermentation. Moreover, the findings of this study indicated that an increase in head space of fermentation culture positively enhanced hydrogen production. 相似文献

Hydrodynamic characteristics of the inverse fluidized bed reactor such as phase holdup, pressure drop, minimum fluidization velocity, liquid circulation velocity, friction factor, bubble size and bubble rise velocity, and mass-transfer coefficient along with heat transfer studies, RTD studies, and the influence of these parameters on the extent of inverse fluidization are reviewed in this work. The importance of each of these is presented, and certain correlations developed on some hydrodynamic characteristics are provided. Our work has shown that the majority of investigations focused on phase holdup, pressure drop, and minimum fluidization velocity, and studies related to other characteristics such as friction factor, mass-transfer coefficient, and residence time distribution are generally scarce. This review also projects some of the areas on which future research work can concentrate. 相似文献
