Nanoscaled tungsten oxide (WO3) particles coated on ZnO nanorods (ZNRs) were newly synthesized by combining a hydrothermal technique with a chemical solution process. The structure, morphologies and compositions of the as-prepared WO3–ZNR nanocomposites were characterized through XRD, FESEM, TEM and Raman measurements. The results revealed that pure monoclinic WO3 nanoparticles with an average size range of 18–26 nm were distributed on the surfaces of ZNRs and attached strongly. Particularly, the optical properties as well as photocatalytic characteristics of pure ZNRs and WO3–ZNR nanocomposites with different loadings of WO3 were also examined. The absorption of WO3–ZNR nanocomposites was redshifted due to effective immobilization of WO3 on ZNRs. Under irradiation of a 55 W compact fluorescence lamp, the photocatalytic activities of the WO3–ZNR nanocomposites were superior to those of pure ZNRs and P25 in the degradation of resorcinol (ReOH). Furthermore, WO3–ZNR nanocomposites showed very favorable recycle use potential and high sedimentation rate. Other endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) such as phenol, bisphenol A (BPA) and methylparaben were also successfully photodegraded under identical conditions. These characteristics showed the practical applications of the WO3–ZNR nanocomposites in indoor environmental remediation.  相似文献

Abstract

Microorganisms grow in tuna during drying at low temperatures. The drying temperature of 50°C or below is not lethal to the microflora. The decimal reduction time (D-value) varied from 12.66 to 2.63 hr when drying temperature increased from 60 to 100°C, respectively. These values can be used to estimate the lethal effect of drying on the natural microflora in tuna.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper describes the basic design of the GHE solar dryer and evaluates the performance of the dryer when used to dry vanilla pods. From laboratory test results it was indicated that the average drying time for vanilla pods was between 49 to 53, 5 hrs, for the case of heating augmentation using coal briquette stoves. The total amount of coal briquettes used to produce drying air temperature between 33 C to 65 C and RH of about 34% during day time was 61 kg equivalent to 6.1 kW heating rate and the average electric energy usage of 36.5 kWh, respectively. Quality test results indicated that the dried products were of grade IA of the export quality standard with vaniline content of 2.36%.  相似文献

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of different surface shapes formed by femtosecond (FS) laser on zirconia (Y-TZP)-resin cement shear bond strength (SBS). Background data: All ceramic restoration is used as an alternative to metal-ceramic restorations, due to its better aesthetics, strength, and toughness properties. However, bond strength of restoration to tooth and other materials is effective to long term success of the restoration, and to achieve it surface treatment is required on ceramic surface. Materials and methods: Forty square-shaped zirconia samples were prepared and assigned to four groups of 10. The details of the groups are as follows: Group A, square-shaped recessed surface; Group B, square-shaped projection surface; Group C, circular-shaped recessed surface; Group D, circular-shaped projection surface. The SBSs values were performed with a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. The data were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey HSD multiple comparisons tests. Results: The one-way ANOVA results on SBSs of the zirconia material bonded with resin cement revealed significant differences among the groups (p < 0.05). The Tukey HSD test results revealed that Group B and D had significantly higher SBS values than other groups (p < 0.05), but there were no significant differences between each other (p > 0.05). Additionally, Group A and C had significantly lower values than other groups (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Different surface shapes formed by FS laser provided a significant increase in SBSs. The SBS values of projection surfaces of circular and square-shapes are greater than that of recessed surfaces of circular and square-shapes.  相似文献

[NiCl2(C14H12N2)(H2O)] complex has been synthesized from nickel chloride hexahydrate (NiCl2·6H2O) and 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (dmphen) as N,N-bidentate ligand. The synthesized complex was characterized by elemental analysis, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy and differential thermal/thermogravimetric analysis (TG/DTA). The complex was further confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) as triclinic with space group P-1. The desired complex, subjected to thermal decomposition at low temperature of 400 ºC in an open atmosphere, revealed a novel and facile synthesis of pure NiO nanoparticles with uniform spherical particle; the structure of the NiO nanoparticles product was elucidated on the basis of Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), UV-vis spectroscopy, TG/DTA, XRD, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDXS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).  相似文献

Y3Fe5O12 (YIG) prepared by conventional solid-state method can rarely be of high purity. However, this study suggests that high purity YIG can be produced via conventional solid-state methods, through stoichiometry modification. This is achieved by adding various amounts of excess Fe2O3 to control the YIG stoichiometric ratios. In this work, ferrite and yttria were calcined at 1100 °C (for 8 h) and sintered at 1420 °C (6 h). In most samples, the formation of YIG, with YFeO3 (YIP) and/or Fe2O3 as associated phases were detected. Uniform microstructures of YIG are also observed. YIP phase in YIG is found to be inversely related to the addition of excess Fe2O3, up to 8 wt%. At above 8 wt% Fe2O3 addition, YIP disappears, leaving unreacted excess Fe2O3 as a new associated phase. From the investigation, it is safe to conclude that the purity of YIG can be increased with the addition of excess Fe2O3.  相似文献

Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) were prepared by bulk polymerization in acetonitrile using 2,4-dinitrophenol, acrylamide, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, and benzoyl peroxide, as the template, functional monomer, cross-linker, and initiator, respectively. The MIP membrane was prepared by hybridization of MIP particles with cellulose acetate (CA) and polystyrene (PS) after being ground and sieved. The prepared MIP membrane was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The parameters studied for the removal of 2,4-dinitrophenol included the effect of pH, sorption kinetics, and the selectivity of the MIP membrane. Maximum sorption of 2,4-nitrophenol by the fabricated CA membrane with MIP (CA-MIP) and the PS membrane with MIP (PS-MIP) was observed at pH 7.0 and pH 5.0, respectively. The sorption of 2,4-dinitrophenol by CA-MIP and PS-MIP followed a pseudo–second-order kinetic model. For a selectivity study, 2,4-dichlorophenol, 3-chlorophenol, and phenol were selected as potential interferences. The sorption capability of CA-MIP and PS-MIP towards 2,4-dinitrophenol was observed to be higher than that of 2,4-dichlorophenol, 3-chlorophenol, or phenol.  相似文献

Polyethersulfone (PES) hollow fiber membranes were fabricated via the dry‐wet phase inversion spinning technique, aiming to produce an asymmetric, micro porous ultrafiltration hollow‐fiber specifically for hemodialysis membrane. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of spinning conditions on the morphological and permeation properties of the fabricated membrane. Among the parameters that were studied in this work are air gap distance, dope extrusion rate, bore fluid flow rate, and the take‐up speed. The contact angle was measured to determine the hydrophilicity of the fibers. Membrane with sufficient hydrophilicity properties is desired for hemodialysis application to avoid fouling and increase its biocompatibility. The influences of the hollow fiber's morphology (i.e., diameter and wall thickness) on the performance of the membranes were evaluated by pure water flux and BSA rejection. The experimental results showed that the dope extrusion rate to bore fluid flow rate ratio should be maintained at 1:1 ratio to produce a perfectly rounded asymmetric hollow fiber membrane. Moreover, the flux of the hollow fiber spun at higher air gap distance had better flux than the one spun at lower air gap distance. Furthermore, spinning asymmetric hollow fiber membranes at high air gap distance helps to produce a thin and porous skin layer, leading to a better flux but a relatively low percentage of rejection for BSA separation. Findings from this study would serve as primary data which will be a useful guide for fabricating a high performance hemodialysis hollow fiber membrane. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Congenital cataracts (CC) are responsible for approximately one-tenth of childhood blindness cases globally. Here, we report an African American family with a recessively inherited form of CC. The proband demonstrated decreased visual acuity and bilateral cataracts, with nuclear and cortical cataracts in the right and left eye, respectively. Exome sequencing revealed a novel homozygous variant (c.563A > G; p.(Asn188Ser)) in GJA3, which was predicted to be pathogenic by structural analysis. Dominantly inherited variants in GJA3 are known to cause numerous types of cataracts in various populations. Our study represents the second case of recessive GJA3 allele, and the first report in African Americans. These results validate GJA3 as a bona fide gene for recessively inherited CC in humans.  相似文献

At present, the potential role of the AgNPs/endo-fullerene molecule metal nano-composite has been evaluated over the biosystems in-vitro. The intra-atomic configuration of the fullerene molecule (C60) has been studied in-vitro for the anti-proliferative activity of human breast adenocarcinoma (MDA-MB-231) cell lines and antimicrobial activity against a few human pathogens that have been augmented with the pristine surface plasmonic electrons and antibiotic activity of AgNPs. Furthermore, FTIR revealed the basic vibrational signatures at ~3300 cm−1, 1023 cm−1, 1400 cm−1 for O-H, C-O, and C-H groups, respectively, for the carbon and oxygen atoms of the C60 molecule. NMR studies exhibited the different footprints and magnetic moments at ~7.285 ppm, explaining the unique underlying electrochemical attributes of the fullerene molecule. Such unique electronic and physico-chemical properties of the caged carbon structure raise hope for applications into the drug delivery domain. The in-vitro dose-dependent application of C60 elicits a toxic response against both the breast adenocarcinoma cell lines and pathogenic microbes. That enables the use of AgNPs decorated C60 endo fullerene molecules to design an effective anti-cancerous drug delivery and antimicrobial agent in the future, bringing a revolutionary change in the perspective of a treatment regime.  相似文献
