Thermoelectrically cooled quantum-cascade-laser-based sensor for the continuous monitoring of ambient atmospheric carbon monoxide

We report the first application of a thermoelectrically cooled, distributed-feedback quantum-cascade laser for continuous spectroscopic monitoring of CO in ambient air at a wavelength of 4.6 microm. A noise-equivalent detection limit of 12 parts per billion was demonstrated experimentally with a 102-cm optical pathlength and a 2.5-min data acquisition time at a 10-kHz pulsed-laser repetition rate. This sensitivity corresponds to a standard error in fractional absorbance of 3 x 10(-5).     

Canonic realization of ladder wave digital filters

Wave digital filters which are derived by previously known methods from LC ladder reference filters having attenuation poles at frequencies other than zero or infinity, although being canonic in number of multipliers, are not canonic in number of delays. A simple procedure is given by means of which a canonic realization can always be derived from an originally noncanonic ladder wave digital low-pass, high-pass, or band-pass filter. This procedure does not affect the values of the multiplier coefficients.     

Reciprocity,inter-reciprocity,and transposition in wave digital filters

For wave digital filters, basic theorems which, although being more general, have a similarity to the difference form of Tellegen's theorem for classical networks, are derived, and the properties of reciprocity and inter-reciprocity are defined. To each wave digital filter, there corresponds an entire family of transposed wave digital filters; each of these is inter-reciprocal with the original one. Two types of transposition, called intrinsic and elementary transposition, are of particular importance. For these, the number of multipliers is the same after transposition as before, which is of interest for obtaining equivalent realizations. Intrinsic and elementary transposition are related to transposition (in the classical sense) and duality in the reference filter from which the wave digital filter is derived.     

Vocabulary response as related to lateralization of cerebral lesion: An investigation of "latent aphasia."

The Wechsler-Bellevue Vocabulary of 3 groups was compared. 1 group had brain injury involving the left side, another had brain injury on the right side, and the third group was judged to be entirely free of cerebral pathology. Scoring was based upon mode of response rather than accuracy. There were no differences found between these groups, a refutation of Pichot's concept of "latent aphasia." The educational and work experiences of psychology graduates of the College of Wooster: 1966–1980.

Investigated the educational and work experiences of 311 Ss graduating during the period 1966–1980 with a psychology degree. 28% of the job titles were within education and 22% were within business. At the paraprofessional level (BA degree), a significant number (15%) of Ss were employed in human services.
