  • This study investigated the attitudes toward social, economic, and environmental corporate responsibilities of 3064 current managers and business students in 8 European countries.
  • Participants in Western European countries had significantly different perspectives on the importance of these corporate responsibilities (CR) than those in Central and East European countries. Within each country, environmental CR is perceived as most important in both CEE and Western European countries. Across countries, Western European respondents accord more importance to social CR and less importance to economic CR. CEE countries are not homogenous, e.g., CR attitudes in the Czech Republic are closer to that of Western Europeans, possibly triggered by the accession to EU.
  • Work experience (managers vs. business students) influences social and environmental orientations more than the economic orientation for only some countries. Generational differences were found as well: Business students attribute more importance to environmental CR and less importance to social CR than managers.

A straightforward assisted tandem palladium(II)‐ and palladium(0)‐catalyzed direct C‐3 and N‐4 arylation of quinoxalin‐2(1 H)‐ones with boronic acids and aryl halides in water as safe and cheap solvent is reported. This environmentally friendly catalytic protocol is compatible with a wide range of functional groups and allows construction of various biologically important quinoxalin‐2(1 H)‐one backbones.

The present study explored the hypothesis that an adverse intrauterine environment caused by maternal undernutrition (MUN) acted through corticosteroid-dependent and -independent mechanisms to program lasting functional changes in the neonatal cerebrovasculature and vulnerability to mild hypoxic-ischemic (HI) injury. From day 10 of gestation until term, MUN and MUN-metyrapone (MUN-MET) group rats consumed a diet restricted to 50% of calories consumed by a pair-fed control; and on gestational day 11 through term, MUN-MET groups received drinking water containing MET (0.5 mg/mL), a corticosteroid synthesis inhibitor. P9/P10 pups underwent unilateral carotid ligation followed 24 h later by 1.5 h exposure to 8% oxygen (HI treatment). An ELISA quantified MUN-, MET-, and HI-induced changes in circulating levels of corticosterone. In P11/P12 pups, MUN programming promoted contractile differentiation in cerebrovascular smooth muscle as determined by confocal microscopy, modulated calcium-dependent contractility as revealed by cerebral artery myography, enhanced vasogenic edema formation as indicated by T2 MRI, and worsened neurobehavior MUN unmasked HI-induced improvements in open-field locomotion and in edema resolution, alterations in calcium-dependent contractility and promotion of contractile differentiation. Overall, MUN imposed multiple interdependent effects on cerebrovascular smooth muscle differentiation, contractility, edema formation, flow-metabolism coupling and neurobehavior through pathways that both required, and were independent of, gestational corticosteroids. In light of growing global patterns of food insecurity, the present study emphasizes that infants born from undernourished mothers may experience greater risk for developing neonatal cerebral edema and sensorimotor impairments possibly through programmed changes in neonatal cerebrovascular function.  相似文献

The Pd‐catalyzed decarboxylative cross‐coupling reaction of 4‐substituted quinolin‐2(1H)‐one‐3‐carboxylic acids with (hetero)aryl halides is described. With palladium(II) bromide and triphenylarsine ligand as the catalyst system, a variety of 4‐substituted 3‐(hetero)aryl quinolin‐2(1 H)‐ones and related heterocycles, such as 4‐substituted 3‐arylcoumarins can be prepared in good to excellent yields.  相似文献

Photocurrent measurements have been performed on a quantum cascade detector structure under strong magnetic field applied parallel to the growth axis. The photocurrent shows oscillations as a function of B. In order to describe that behavior, we have developed a rate equation model. The interpretation of the experimental data supports the idea that an elastic scattering contribution plays a central role in the behavior of those structures. We present a calculation of electron lifetime versus magnetic field which suggests that impurities scattering in the active region is the limiting factor. These experiments lead to a better understanding of these complex structures and give key parameters to optimize them further.  相似文献

PURPOSE: Burkitt-like lymphoma (BLL) is a tumor with morphologic features intermediate between Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) and large-cell lymphoma, but its relationship with these lymphomas is currently unclear. We have therefore analyzed its characteristics within a large series of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated lymphomas. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Clinical, histologic, immunophenotypic, and molecular analyses were performed on 103 patients with AIDS lymphomas. RESULTS: Nineteen cases (18.4%) were identified as BLL. They were monoclonal B-cell proliferations, as evaluated by immunoglobulin (Ig) gene rearrangement analyses, and had rearrangement of the c-myc oncogene in 68% of cases but not the bcl-2 gene, in contrast to a previous study on non-HIV-associated BLL. This molecular pattern was therefore identical to that of typical BL, suggesting that they represented tumors of similar origin. However, some features could clearly differentiate BLL from BL and were similar to those seen in the diffuse large-cell immunoblastic lymphomas (DLC-IBL) group. These included a greater frequency of Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) infection (79% v 48%, P = .04), an upregulation of CD39 (50% v 0%, P = .0007) and CD70 (75% v 15%, P = .003) activation antigens and of the CD11a/LFA-1 adhesion molecule (83% v30%, P = .05), and, finally, a lower CD4 count (mean, 119/microL v 270/microL, P = .04). CONCLUSION: BLL is a frequent entity among AIDS lymphomas and should be considered as a morphologic variant of BL in the context of severe immunodepression that occurs in HIV-infected patients.  相似文献

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and cancers are the two main causes of death worldwide. The initiation and progression of atherosclerosis is, in large part, caused by oxidized low-density lipoproteins (oxLDL); interestingly, oxLDL may also play a role in cancer cell metabolism and migration. As oxLDL are generally obtained by tedious ultracentrifugation procedures, “home-made” oxLDL were obtained by (i) applying a purification kit to isolate LDL and VLDL from human plasma; (ii) isolating LDL from VLDL by gel permeation chromatography (GPC); and (iii) oxidating LDL through CuSO4 incubation. On three HPV-positive head and neck cancer cells (HNCC) (93VU-147T, UM-SCC47, and UPCI-SCC154), cell migration was assessed using Boyden chambers, the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway was analyzed by Western Blotting, and the expression of two oxLDL receptors, LOX-1 and CD36, in response to oxLDL exposure, was analysed by immunofluorescence. Our data indicate: (a) a non-significant difference between reference and “home-made” oxLDL; (b) a decreased migration, parallel to an inhibition of the ß-catenin pathway; and (c) an increase of CD36 and LOX-1 expression in all HNCC. In conclusion, we successfully produced oxLDL. Our results demonstrate a decrease in HNCC migration after oxLDL exposure, and an increased expression of LOX-1 and CD36 associated with lipid uptake.  相似文献

Pine wood derived biocarbon (BioC) is investigated as a renewable alternative to carbon black (CB) for plastics and composites applications. Three different polymers with different polarity were used to prepare the composites: polypropylene (PP), polylactic acid (PLA), and polyamide 6 (PA6). Comparatively, CB had a nodule size of ~300 nm and surface area of 8 m2/g, whereas BioC showed an average particle size of ~950 nm and surface area of ~260 m2/g, respectively. CB, in the composites, was found in large aggregations in the flow direction (FD), while BioC particles showed a better dispersion. Aggregation of CB affected mostly the mechanical strength of the composites. Furthermore, it was found that the overall performance of composites was influenced more by the polarity of the phases, rather than the particle size or the surface area of the fillers. Even when the polarity of the particles had an expected trend (PA6 > PLA > PP with BioC > CB), the work of cohesion obtained for the composites was PA6-BioC > PP-BioC > PLA-BioC, showing, in particular, that the chain-to-chain intermolecular forces in neat PLA are stronger as compared to those developed by the particle-matrix interactions.  相似文献

Models for the prediction of heat and mass transfers in building porous materials have been developed since the 90’s with simulation programs such as MATCH, UMIDUS, DELPHIN and Wufi. These models are used to analyze the physical phenomena occurring and particularly the impact of moisture on buildings’ energy performance and durability. With this goal in mind, it is important to validate the representation of the physical phenomena made by the numerical models. This article reviews recent studies comparing the results obtained with numerical models and experimental data. An overall trend can be observed for most of these studies, highlighting that the experimental front always rushes faster than the simulation results. Therefore, this study analyses theses comparisons to explain these discrepancies based on the effects of (i) the type of materials, (ii) the boundary conditions, (iii) the scale of the design facility, (iv) the model used to describe the physical phenomena and (v) the influence of the model input parameter. The general trend shows that discrepancies are observed most particularly for highly hygroscopic or bio-based materials. These discrepancies are also greater for time dynamic boundary conditions, particularly at the scale of the wall. Moreover, some of the assumptions on the properties of the materials used as input in the models are questioned. Indeed, the models considering the hysteresis effects and temperature dependency of the moisture storage capacity show better agreement with experimental data. Finally, the physical phenomena used in the models only consider diffusive transport while it appears that the advective of moisture through the porous material may play an important role.  相似文献

Chondrosarcomas are malignant bone tumors. Their abundant cartilage-like extracellular matrix and their hypoxic microenvironment contribute to their resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and no effective therapy is currently available. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) may be an interesting alternative in the development of therapeutic options. Here, for the first time in chondrosarcoma cells, we carried out high-throughput functional screening using impedancemetry, and identified five miRNAs with potential antiproliferative or chemosensitive effects on SW1353 chondrosarcoma cells. The cytotoxic effects of miR-342-5p and miR-491-5p were confirmed on three chondrosarcoma cell lines, using functional validation under normoxia and hypoxia. Both miRNAs induced apoptosis and miR-342-5p also induced autophagy. Western blots and luciferase reporter assays identified for the first time Bcl-2 as a direct target of miR-342-5p, and also Bcl-xL as a direct target of both miR-342-5p and miR-491-5p in chondrosarcoma cells. MiR-491-5p also inhibited EGFR expression. Finally, only miR-342-5p induced cell death on a relevant 3D chondrosarcoma organoid model under hypoxia that mimics the in vivo microenvironment. Altogether, our results revealed the tumor suppressive activity of miR-342-5p, and to a lesser extent of miR-491-5p, on chondrosarcoma lines. Through this study, we also confirmed the potential of Bcl-2 family members as therapeutic targets in chondrosarcomas.  相似文献
