Substrates with four different nanotube modifications have been prepared and their electron transport properties measured. Two modification techniques were compared; covalent chemical attachment of both single and multi-walled carbon nanotubes to transparent conductive (fluorine doped tin oxide) glass surfaces and chemical vapour deposition (CVD) growth of both single and multi-walled carbon nanotubes on highly doped conductive silicon wafers. These carbon nanotube modified substrates were investigated using scanning electron microscopy and substrates with nanotubes grown via CVD have a much higher density of nanotubes than substrates prepared using chemical attachment. Raman spectroscopy was used to verify that nanotube growth or attachment was successful. The covalent chemical attachment of nanotubes was found to increase substrate electron transfer substantially compared to that observed for the bare substrate. Nanotube growth also enhanced substrate conductivity but the effect is smaller than that observed for covalent attachment, despite a lower nanotube density in the attachment case. In both modification techniques, attachment and growth, single-walled carbon nanotubes were found to have superior electron transfer properties. Finally, solar cells were constructed from the nanotube modified substrates and the photoresponse from the different substrates was compared showing that chemically attached single-walled nanotubes led to the highest power generation.  相似文献

A combination of intumescent components was evaluated as a novel flame retardant system in a flexible polyurethane foam, and the incorporation of these components gave rise to a significant enhancement of the flame retardant properties of the foam. The heat release rate was lowered at an early stage as well as throughout the fire, the total heat production was decreased and the time to ignition was prolonged. Mechanical measurements of the foam revealed enhanced properties in terms of stiffness accompanied by a large decrease in elongation at break as compared with a reference foam. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper presents a fully automatic system intended to detect leaks of dielectric fluid in underground high-pressure, fluid-filled (HPFF) cables. The system combines a number of artificial intelligence (AI) and data processing techniques to achieve high detection capabilities for various rates of leaks, including leaks as small as 15 l per hour. The system achieves this level of precision mainly thanks to a novel auto-tuning procedure, enabling learning of the Bayesian network – the decision-making component of the system – using simulated leaks of various rates. Significant new developments extending the capabilities of the original leak detection system described in [1] and [2] form the basis of this paper. Tests conducted on the real-life HPFF cable system in New York City are also discussed.  相似文献

Stainless steel is attractive as material for bipolar plates in proton exchange membrane fuel cells, due to its high electrical conductivity, high mechanical strength and relatively low material and processing cost. Potentiostatic and potentiodynamic tests were performed in H2SO4 solutions on AISI 316L stainless steel bipolar plates with etched flow fields. The effect of pH and presence of small amounts of fluoride and chloride on the corrosion rate and interfacial contact resistance of the stainless steel bipolar plate were investigated. The tests performed in electrolytes with various pH values revealed that the oxide layer was thinner and more prone to corrosion at pH values significantly lower than the pH one expects the bipolar plate to experience in an operating proton exchange membrane fuel cells. The use of solutions with very low pH in such measurements is thus probably not the best way of accelerating the corrosion rate of stainless steel bipolar plates. By use of strongly acidic solutions the composition and thickness of the oxide layer on the stainless steel is probably altered in a way that might never have happened in an operating proton exchange membrane fuel cell. Additions of fluoride and chloride in the amounts expected in an operating fuel cell (2 ppm F and 10 ppm Cl) did not cause significant changes for neither the polarization- nor the contact resistance measurements. However, by increasing the amount of Cl to 100 ppm, pitting was initiated on the stainless steel surface.  相似文献

The human estrogen receptor alpha-test, hosted in a yeast strain, was used to quantify estrogenicity in three-week composite samples of untreated and treated effluents from 20 Swedish municipal sewage treatment plants. The treatment plants were selected to represent different treatment processes regarding chemical precipitation and microbial procedures. The discharge from Swedish domestic sewage treatment plants contained estrogenic compounds corresponding to <0.1-15 ng estradiol equivalents/L. Low levels of estrogenic activity were also found in a river receiving municipal effluents, 3.5-35 km downstream the outlet from a sewage treatment works. The range of estrogenicity in untreated, raw sewage effluents was found to be 1-30 ng estradiol equivalents/L. Generally, wastewater treatment reduced the estrogenicity and extended biological treatment was most effective in its removal. Activated sludge treatment tended to be more effective than trickling filters, whereas chemical precipitation using iron or aluminium salts without biological treatment showed little effectivity. The study showed that treatment methods in current use are able to eliminate or largely reduce estrogenicity in domestic wastewater.  相似文献

Au nanoislet targets ( 2-60 nm) were bombarded by 200 keV polyatomic ions (40 keV/atom), which deposit their energy mainly in the nuclear stopping mode: ∑(dE/dx)n = 30 keV/nm and ∑(dE/dx)e = 2 keV/nm. The matter desorbed in the form of nanoclusters was registered by TEM. The total transfer of matter was determined by neutron-activation analysis. The total yield of the ejected gold reached high values of up to 2.6 × 104 atoms per Au5 ion. The major part (2 × 104 atoms per ion Au5) of the emission is in the form of nanoclusters. The results are compared with the data of similar experiments with 1 MeV Au5 (200 keV/atom) and other projectiles. The analysis of the experimental data and the comparison to molecular-dynamics simulation results of the desorption process show that the desorption of Au nanoislets is induced by their melting, build-up of pressure and thermal expansion.  相似文献

Studies on Thermal Conversion of Phenyleyclopentane, -hexane, -heptane, and -octane in the Gas Phase The title compounds were pyrolyzed from 700 to 780°C in a metallic laboratory tubular reactor in the presence of steam. The reaction products were analyzed by gas chromatography and by a combination of gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. From the phenylcyclanes tested, more than 65 hydrocarbons could be detected in the liquids, besides gaseous reaction products. In most cases unambiguous structures could be derived by using different analytical methods. As typical initial-step products phenylcyclenes, ω-phenyl-1-alkenes and 1-phenyl-1-alkenes are formed by dehydrogenation and isomerization of the title compounds. The detection of phenylalkenes corresponds well with the isomerization of unsubstituted cyclanes to the corresponding α-olefines described in former papers.  相似文献

Ischemic conditioning and exercise have been suggested for protecting against brain ischemia-reperfusion injury. However, the endogenous protective mechanisms stimulated by these interventions remain unclear. Here, in a comprehensive translational study, we investigated the protective role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) released after remote ischemic conditioning (RIC), blood flow restricted resistance exercise (BFRRE), or high-load resistance exercise (HLRE). Blood samples were collected from human participants before and at serial time points after intervention. RIC and BFRRE plasma EVs released early after stimulation improved viability of endothelial cells subjected to oxygen-glucose deprivation. Furthermore, post-RIC EVs accumulated in the ischemic area of a stroke mouse model, and a mean decrease in infarct volume was observed for post-RIC EVs, although not reaching statistical significance. Thus, circulating EVs induced by RIC and BFRRE can mediate protection, but the in vivo and translational effects of conditioned EVs require further experimental verification.  相似文献

Microstructure development in consolidating pigment coating layers was studied in terms of particle flocculation and clustering mechanisms utilising a 3D particle dynamics model. The model includes hydrodynamic forces, colloidal interactions as well as the Brownian motion. The influence of colloidal interactions and drying strategy on the coating layer thickness development and internal solid concentration gradients, was investigated. A low particle surface potential resulted in the formation of porous particle networks, which impeded the shrinkage of the coating layer. At higher surface potentials particles arranged into denser structures, whereby the solids concentration profile could be controlled by the drying. Low electrostatic double layer thicknesses allowed sharp concentration gradients to form as result of the applied drying strategy. At high double layer thicknesses, the structure formation was similar regardless of drying strategy. This work elucidates the combined effect of drying conditions and colloidal suspension properties on coating microstructure development. Furthermore, the results aid in the understanding of how coating suspension additives may influence the structure development of the coating layer.  相似文献

Microwave (MW) irradiation has been used to accelerate the functionalization of an azide functional poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) film by click chemistry. The absorption of MW energy by the conductive polymer has been exploited for localized activation of the reaction on the polymer surface. By use of an alkyne modified fluorescein derivative the reaction conditions have been optimized in a conventional MW oven, enabling the use of different sizes of substrates. The optimization resulted in a reduction of reaction times of approximately 20 h to only 2 min for bulk film functionalization. The method has been applied for anchoring of the chelating agent nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) on the conductive polymer. The chelating linkage ability of NTA on the surface was investigated through a sandwich ELISA study confirming the selective bonding of a histidine tagged protein.  相似文献
