A new class of biodegradable crosslinked hydrogel, consisting of hydrophobic polylactic acid (PLA) and hydrophilic dextrin in presence of crosslinker N,N‐methylene bisacrylamide (MBA) has been synthesized by free‐radical polymerization technique using potassium persulfate (KPS) as initiator. By variation of crosslinker concentration, a series of hydrogels have been prepared and the optimized grade has been selected on the basis of higher crosslinking efficiency as well as lower equilibrium swelling characteristics, XRD analysis. The hydrogels have been characterized by FTIR spectra, 13C‐NMR spectra, CHN analysis, SEM analysis, swelling characteristics, and toxicity study. In vitro release study of model drugs (ciprofloxacin and ornidazole) from hydrogel matrix has been performed in various buffer solutions at 37°C. The drug release kinetics and mechanism have been studied using zero order, first‐order kinetic models, Korsemeyar–Peppas model, Higuchi model, Hixson–Crowell model, and nonlinear Kopcha model. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A triangular lattice photonic crystal fibre is presented in this paper for residual dispersion compensation. The fibre exhibits a flattened negative dispersion of ?992.01 ± 6.93 ps/(nm-km) over S+C+L wavelength bands and ?995.83 ± 0.42 ps/(nm-km) over C-band. The birefringence is about 4.4 × 10?2 at the excitation wavelength of 1550 nm which is also very high. Full vector finite element method (FEM) with a perfectly matched absorbing layer (PML) boundary condition is applied to numerically investigate the guiding properties of this PCF. The fibre operates at fundamental mode only. All these properties endorse this fibre as a suitable candidate for compensating residual dispersion and polarization maintaining applications.  相似文献

In the present work the reaction between fly ash and lime in fly ash-lime compacts under water curing and steam curing conditions was studied thoroughly in relation to the processing conditions. Fly ash from different sources were collected, characterized, mixed with lime in different ratios and compacted. The compacts were cured with water and steam separately. The reduction in the free CaO content in these compacts was measured as a function of curing time and curing process. Role of two ionic additives, FeCl3 and MgCl2, on the reaction between fly ash and lime was also investigated by measuring the free CaO content. Kinetics of these reactions was studied by determining the reaction order and rate constants with respect to the free CaO content and it was observed that the curing conditions and additives affected the reaction kinetics significantly.  相似文献

In concrete pavements, fatigue is one of the major causes of distress. Repeated loads result in the formation of cracks. The propagation of these cracks cause internal progressive damage within the structure, which ultimately leads to failure of the pavement due to fatigue. This paper presents a theoretical investigation of crack propagation within concrete pavement and its fatigue characteristics under cyclic loading. A numerical fatigue performance model has been developed for this purpose. The model is based on fictitious crack approach for the propagation of cracks and stress degradation approach for estimating the bridging stress under cyclic loading. Using the numerical model, a parametric study has been performed for a typical concrete pavement to evaluate its fatigue characteristics for different foundation strengths. The method can be used for prediction of crack propagation in concrete pavement under cyclic loading and gives an estimate of the incremental damage or the entire crack history of the pavement.  相似文献

The spin relaxation time of photoinduced conduction electrons has been measured in InGaN quantum disks in GaN nanowires as a function of temperature and In composition in the disks. The relaxation times are of the order of ~100 ps at 300 K and are weakly dependent on temperature. Theoretical considerations show that the Elliott-Yafet scattering mechanism is essentially absent in these materials and the results are interpreted in terms of the D'yakonov-Perel' relaxation mechanism in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit coupling of the wurtzite structure. The calculated spin relaxation times are in good agreement with the measured values.  相似文献

The aerodynamic heating of a ballistic missile due to only convection is analysed taking into consideration the effects of gravity. The amount of heat transferred to the wetted area and to the nose region has been separately determined, unlike A Miele’s treatise without consideration of gravity. The peak heating rates to the wetted area and to the nose of the missile are also investigated. Finally four numerical examples are cited to estimate the errors, in heat transfers and heating rates to both wetted area and nose region of the missile, arising out of neglecting the gravitational forces.  相似文献

The preparation of NaCaPO4 doped with rare earth (RE) ions Ce3+, Eu3+ and Dy3+ by combustion method was described. Under UV excitation (251 nm) of NaCaPO4:Ce3+ showsd emission (367 nm) in UV range. When NaCaPO4:Dy3+ phosphor was excited at 349 nm, the emission spectrum showed intense bands at 482 nm (blue) and 576 nm (yellow). STUDY DESIGN: Pedicle screws were pulled out of human cadaveric vertebrae before and after augmentation with polymethylmethacrylate or in situ-setting calcium phosphate cement. The fixation strength of screws augmented with calcium phosphate cement was compared with that of screws augmented with polymethylmethacrylate. OBJECTIVES: To determine whether a new in situ-setting calcium phosphate cement might be suitable for augmenting the fixation of pedicle screws. The principle objective was to compare the pull-out resistance of screws augmented with calcium phosphate cement with the pull-out behavior of screws augmented with polymethylmethacrylate. Polymethylmethacrylate augmentation was chosen as the standard because of its current clinical use. Five types of screws were tested to determine whether screw design had an effect on the efficacy of augmentation. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Although many factors affect the pull-out resistance of pedicle screws, a key determinant of their performance is the strength of their attachment to the spine. In elderly, osteopenic patients, the screw-bone interface is especially at risk for stripping during insertion or pull-out after surgery. In these patients, polymethylmethacrylate has been used to augment pedicle screw fixation, although its use is not without risk. In situ-setting calcium phosphate cements may provide an alternative to polymethylmethacrylate in this application. Like polymethylmethacrylate, calcium phosphate cements can be injected into the prepared screw hole. They have the added advantage of being resorbed and replaced during healing and normal bone remodeling. METHODS: Thirty human lower lumbar vertebrae (L3-L5) were implanted bilaterally with one of five types of pedicle screws (n = 6 for each screw type). The screws were pulled out 3.0 mm at 0.25 mm/sec with a servohydraulic materials testing machine. The 3.0-mm pull-out distance, which was slightly longer than one thread pitch, was designed to strip the screw-bone interface but to leave the pedicle otherwise intact. After the initial testing, the screws in each vertebrae were removed, and the screw tracks were filled with 2.0 cc of polymethylmethacrylate (one side) or calcium phosphate cement (contralateral side). After augmentation, the screws were reinserted, and the cements were allowed to harden for 24 hours. Postaugmentation testing followed the protocols for preaugmentation testing, and the pull-out resistance of screws augmented with calcium phosphate cement was compared with the pull-out resistance of screws augmented with polymethylmethacrylate. RESULTS: Mechanically, calcium phosphate cement compared favorably with polymethylmethacrylate for augmenting pedicle screws. Both restored the strength of the screw-bone interface: across all screw types, the average increase in pull-out strength was 147% with polymethylmethacrylate augmentation and 102% with calcium phosphate cement. There were no significant differences because of screw type with either type of augmentation. CONCLUSIONS: The in situ-setting calcium phosphate cement investigated in this study compared favorably with polymethylmethacrylate in a single-cycle, pull-out test of augmented pedicle screws in senile trabecular bone. With further evaluation, this cement may offer an alternative to polymethylmethacrylate for the enhancement of pedicle screw fixation clinically.  相似文献

In this paper,we have reported the synthesis of FeS2 of higher band gap energy(2.75 eV) by using capping reagent and its successive application in organic-inorganic based hybrid solar cells.Hydrothermal route was adopted for preparing iron pyrite(FeS2) nanoparticles with capping reagent PEG-400.The quality of synthesized FeS2 material was confirmed by X-ray diffraction,field emission scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscopy,Fourier transform infrared,thermogravimetric analyzer,and Raman study.The optical band gap energy and electro-chemical band gap energy of the synthesized FeS2 were investigated by UV-vis spectrophotometry and cyclic voltammetry.Finally band gap engineered FeS2 has been successfully used in conjunction with conjugated polymer MEHPPV for harvesting solar energy.The energy conversion efficiency was obtained as 0.064%with a fill-factor of 0.52.  相似文献

The present investigations pertain to rocket performance due to manoevering in a vacuum with any arbitrary thrust inclined at a constant angle with respect to the horizon. Considering the variable thrust either as a function of time, or mass ratio, it is established that dynamical equations projected on the horizontal and vertical directions can be solved analytically; closed-form solutions to the overall range, endurance and final or impact velocity arising out of both burning and coasting phases can be achieved depending on the nature of the thrust function. However, in the first section the thrust inclination is made equal to 90°, in so much so that the path of the rocket becomes vertical evoking the determination, for this case, of its peak velocity and altitude. Finally, this analysis leads us to conclude that with the same propellant mass ratio, initial mass, and thrust inclination to the horizon, a programme of any greater thrust is superior to that of any lower thrust: Rocket performance with an arbitrary thrust programme of greater thrust function evolves greater peak altitude for vertical path, and greater overall range, albeit shorter burnout range, for the curvilinear path.  相似文献
