New techniques developed using the array transducer, to image and size the bottom-surface and near-through-wall crack-like defects in thick carbon steel components are discussed. Three studies are reported here including (a) Optimal beam steering angle for focused and unfocused inspection using phased array method for bottom-surface crack sizing. (b) A front wall correction algorithm for sizing of near-through-wall crack-like defects. (c) A small aperture technique for sizing of near-through-wall crack-like defects. A Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) based simulation was used to study and verify the experimental observations. The application of time domain scheme relative arrival time technique (RATT), to measure the size of the near-through wall crack-like defects for the leak before break (LBB) criterion, was also investigated and found to be insufficient. A conventional SAFT algorithm was used for improving the sizing using the small aperture technique.  相似文献

Performance analysis of a solar photovoltaic operated domestic refrigerator   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
This paper describes the fabrication, experimentation and simulation stages of converting a 165 l domestic electric refrigerator to a solar powered one. A conventional domestic refrigerator was chosen for this purpose and was redesigned by adding battery bank, inverter and transformer, and powered by solar photovoltaic (SPV) panels. Various performance tests were carried out to study the performance of the system. The coefficient of performance (COP) was observed to decrease with time from morning to afternoon and a maximum COP of 2.102 was observed at 7 AM. Simulations regarding economic feasibility of the system for the climatic conditions of Jaipur city (India) were also carried out using RETScreen 4. It was observed that the system can only be economically viable with carbon trading option taken into account, and an initial subsidy or a reduction in the component costs – mainly SPV panels and battery bank.  相似文献

In the context of IEEE 802.11b network testbeds, we examine the differences between unicast and broadcast link properties, and we show the inherent difficulties in precisely estimating unicast link properties via those of broadcast beacons even if we make the length and transmission rate of beacons be the same as those of data packets. To circumvent the difficulties in link estimation, we propose to estimate unicast link properties directly via data traffic itself without using periodic beacons. To this end, we design a data-driven routing protocol Learn-on-the-Fly (LOF). LOF chooses routes based on ETX/ETT-type metrics, but the metrics are estimated via MAC feedback for unicast data transmission instead of broadcast beacons. Using a realistic sensor network traffic trace and an 802.11b testbed of ~195 Stargates, we experimentally compare the performance of LOF with that of beacon-based protocols, represented by the geography-unaware ETX and the geography-based PRD. We find that LOF reduces end-to-end MAC latency by a factor of 3, enhances energy efficiency by a factor up to 2.37, and improves network throughput by a factor up to 7.78, which demonstrate the feasibility and the potential benefits of data-driven link estimation and routing.  相似文献

When a sensor network is deployed to detect objects penetrating a protected region, it is not necessary to have every point in the deployment region covered by a sensor. It is enough if the penetrating objects are detected at some point in their trajectory. If a sensor network guarantees that every penetrating object will be detected by at least k distinct sensors before it crosses the barrier of wireless sensors, we say the network provides k-barrier coverage. In this paper, we develop theoretical foundations for k-barrier coverage. We propose efficient algorithms using which one can quickly determine, after deploying the sensors, whether the deployment region is k-barrier covered. Next, we establish the optimal deployment pattern to achieve k-barrier coverage when deploying sensors deterministically. Finally, we consider barrier coverage with high probability when sensors are deployed randomly. The major challenge, when dealing with probabilistic barrier coverage, is to derive critical conditions using which one can compute the minimum number of sensors needed to ensure barrier coverage with high probability. Deriving critical conditions for k-barrier coverage is, however, still an open problem. We derive critical conditions for a weaker notion of barrier coverage, called weak k-barrier coverage.  相似文献

Glucose- and xylose laurate esters are enzymatically synthesized using equimolar substrate concentrations in 2-methyl-2-butanol, comparing free lauric acid with methyl- and vinyl-laurate as acyl donors. All reactions result in ≥70% acyl donor conversions after 72 h but the activated donors are also partially hydrolyzed to lauric acid, highlighting the difficulty in controlling water presence in this particular reaction system. The esterification of xylose generates a complex product profile, with several regioisomers of monoesters and diesters. The esterification of glucose is quite selective, forming mainly the 6-O monoester (≥96%) with a small presence of two diester isomers (4%). Increasing substrate concentration up to 800 millimoles kg−1 results in lower conversion values (down to 58%) but shows that the reaction proceeds successfully even in the presence of high amounts of insoluble glucose. However, the reaction is less selective and the proportion of diester increases, becoming up to 46% (molar fraction) of the final product. Solvent recovery after esterification can be achieved by organic solvent nanofiltration through a polymeric membrane able to retain ≥80% of all reaction substrates and products. Practical Applications: The use of high substrate concentrations during the enzymatic synthesis of sugar ester biosurfactants leads to product titers that are more industrially appealing, without the need to find a solvent that can solubilize all initial substrate. The sustainability of the enzymatic conversion at mild temperatures can be enhanced by recycling of the reaction solvent through organic solvent nanofiltration, an energy efficient alternative to other traditional methods like distillation.  相似文献

Translation initiation is a complex, multi-step process of fundamental importance in all kingdoms of life, during which the start site of the genetic message transmitted in the form of an RNA molecule (mRNA) is selected, and the level of translation determined. Being the slowest step of protein synthesis, initiation is the phase most often subject to regulation. Here we review, in a historical perspective and focusing mainly on results from our laboratory, the development of our perception of the mechanisms by which the most relevant steps of this pathway occur in bacteria. In particular, we describe: (a) the mechanistics and kinetics of translation initiation; (b) properties of mRNAs with and without Shine–Dalgarno sequence relevant for initiation site selection and translational efficiency; c) ribosomal binding and dissociation of the initiation factors, formation and properties of translation initiation intermediates; (d) the mechanisms by which translation initiation fidelity is ensured. Finally, we provide a short survey of the known translation initiation inhibitors.  相似文献

Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) coupled with dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) and followed by gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID) was applied for extraction and determination of ultra-trace amounts of seven organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) (o,o,o-triethyl phosphorothioate, thionazin, sulfotepp, disulfoton, methyl parathion, parathion, and famphur) in soil and marine sediment samples. Supercritical CO2 at 150 bar, 60 °C, 10 min static and 30 min dynamic extraction times was used to extract the pesticides. The extracts were collected in 1.0 mL of acetonitrile. Seventeen μL of carbon tetrachloride was dissolved in the collecting solvent and the mixture was then injected rapidly into 5.0 mL of aqueous solution. About (5.0 ± 0.2 μL) of sediment phase was collected after centrifuging and finally 2.0 μL of it was injected into gas chromatography (GC) injection port for analyses. The extraction recoveries for the target analytes were in the range of 44.4% and 95.4% and relative standard deviation (RSD%) for four-replicate measurements was below 7.5%. The limit detections of the method for determining the pesticides were in the range of 0.001-0.009 mg kg−1. The method was successfully applied for analysis of OPPs in real soil and marine sediment samples and satisfactory results were obtained.  相似文献

Conductometric and cloud point (CP) measurement studies have been performed to investigate the interaction of tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TTAB) and Triton® X-100 (TX-100) with ciprofloxacin hydrochloride (CFH) in different solvents over the temperature range of 295.15–315.15 K. CFH is used for the treatment of various bacterial infections. The observed critical micelle concentration (CMC) values of TTAB were found to be reduced in the presence of electrolytes (Na2SO4/Na3PO4), and this reduction proceeds with the elevation of salt concentration. The order of the CMC of TTAB follows the trend: > >. The observed CMC values of TTAB were found to increase with increasing temperature and decrease with increasing concentration of CFH in aqueous medium. The values of Gibbs free energy of micellization () for the TTAB/TTAB + CFH mixture were found to be negative, implying spontaneous micellization. The estimated CP of TX-100 decreases with increasing concentration of TX-100 in aqueous medium. The CP values first decrease with increasing concentration of CFH and then increase at higher concentration of CFH almost in all cases investigated. The values of free energy of clouding were found to be positive in all cases studied implying that phase separation of TX-100 was nonspontaneous. The other thermodynamic parameters associated with the micellization of TTAB and the phase separation of TX-100 were estimated and explained.  相似文献

Essential oil of Nepeta persica cultivated in Iran was obtained by steam distillation and supercritical (carbon dioxide) extraction methods. The oils were analysed by capillary gas chromatography using flame ionization and mass spectrometric detections. The compounds were identified according to their retention indices and mass spectra (EI, 70 eV). The effects of different parameters such as pressure, temperature, modifier volume and extraction times (dynamic and static) on the supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) of N. persica oil were investigated. The results showed that under the pressure of 20.3 MPa, temperature of 45 °C, methanol of 1.5% v/v), dynamic extraction time of 50 min and static extraction time of 25 min extraction was more selective for the 4αβ,7α,7aα-nepetalactone. Twelve compounds were identified in the steam-distilled oil. The major components of N. persica were 4αβ,7α,7aα-nepetalactone (26.5%), cis-β-farnesene (4.4%) and 3,4α-dihydro-4aα,7α,7aα-nepetalactone (3.5%). However, by using supercritical carbon dioxide under optimum conditions, only two components have more than 90.0% of the oil. The extraction yield based on steam distillation was 0.08% (v/w). On the other hand, using SFE extraction yield in the range of 0.22–8.90% (w/w) were obtained at different conditions. The results show that, in Iranian N. persica oil, 4αβ,7α,7aα-nepetalactone is a major component.  相似文献
