This study examines the trends of public opinions concerning the introduction of hydrogen vehicles in Greater Stavanger as well as public attitudes towards the natural environment over the course of the three-year period. This study is based on two surveys of the hydrogen highway project (HyNor) which were collected in the Greater Stavanger region, the west coast of Norway, between 2006 and 2009 (n=2000). The results of the study highlight that – despite an increased awareness of hydrogen vehicles – the proportions of those with pro-environment attitudes who support hydrogen vehicles’ introduction decreased between 2006 and 2009. The results reveal that knowledge about sustainable environment can affect hydrogen energy's acceptance whereas the level of pro-environment attitudes can increase not only public acceptance of hydrogen vehicles, but also people's willingness to pay for hydrogen fuels. These results were consistently found throughout the observed periods, based on the Greater Stavanger's case. A set of recommendations was discussed to improve public acceptance of hydrogen vehicles, and the next avenue of research regarding analysis of public acceptance and awareness about hydrogen vehicles was proposed.  相似文献

When the DNA double helix is subjected to external forces it can stretch elastically to elongations reaching 100% of its natural length. These distortions, imposed at the mesoscopic or macroscopic scales, have a dramatic effect on electronic properties at the atomic scale and on electrical transport along DNA. Accordingly, a multiscale approach is necessary to capture the electronic behavior of the stretched DNA helix. To construct such a model, we begin with accurate density-functional-theory calculations for electronic states in DNA bases and base pairs in various relative configurations encountered in the equilibrium and stretched forms. These results are complemented by semi-empirical quantum mechanical calculations for the states of a small size [18 base pair poly(CG)–poly(CG)] dry, neutral DNA sequence, using previously published models for stretched DNA. The calculated electronic states are then used to parametrize an effective tight-binding model that can describe electron hopping in the presence of environmental effects, such as the presence of stray water molecules on the backbone or structural features of the substrate. These effects introduce disorder in the model hamiltonian which leads to electron localization. The localization length is smaller by several orders of magnitude in stretched DNA relative to that in the unstretched structure.  相似文献

Instances of synthetic polymers obtained from renewable feedstock with the possibility of post-synthesis functionalization are scarce. Herein, the first ever synthesis and drug delivery application of amphiphilic block copolymer (mPEG-b-PJL) derived from renewable jasmine lactone with free allyl groups on the backbone is presented. The polymer is synthesized via facile ring-opening polymerization and subsequently, UV mediated thiol-ene click chemistry is utilized for post-functionalization. The introduction of hydroxyl, carboxyl, and amine functionality to mPEG-b-PJL polymer is successfully established. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, doxorubicin (DOX) is conjugated on hydroxyl-terminated polymer (mPEG-b-PJL-OH) via redox responsive disulfide linkage to obtain PJL-DOX. PJL-DOX is readily self-assembled into micelles with an average hydrodynamic size of ≈ 150 nm and demonstrates reduction-responsive DOX release. Micelles are evaluated in vitro for cytocompatibility and selective drug release in cancer cells (MDA-MB-231) using 10 mm glutathione as a reducing agent. Cytotoxicity and microscopy results confirm a redox-triggered release of DOX, which is further confirmed by flow cytometry. The introduction of these novel functional polymers can pave the way forward in designing polymer-drug conjugate-based smart nano-carriers.  相似文献

In this publication a new synthesis approach of polyethersulfone containing sulfonimide groups (SI-PES), by chemical modification of sulfonated polyethersulfone (S-PES), was developed. The synthesis protocol was optimized in order to turn all the sulfonic function into sulfonimide. The effect of replacing arylsulfonic acid function with a more acidic one, i.e. aryl trifluoromethanesulfonimide, was evaluated through thermal, dynamic mechanical analysis, water uptake and conductivity. For similar ionic exchange capacity (IEC), i.e. 1.8 H+/dm3, at 60 °C and 95% relative humidity, the conductivity of SI-PSF is 9.5 mS/cm while that of S-PSF is only 3.5 mS/cm. However, at 60 °C the water uptake is 3 times higher for SI-PSF membranes as compare with S-PSF. An important change is observed in the slope of the conductivity and water uptake plots of SI-PES membranes, at different temperatures, depending of IEC. This could be explained by an important change in membrane morphology.  相似文献

Edge detection is an important step for finding the discontinuities of images and detecting the boundaries of objects. This work presents a novel algorithm for image edge detection using ant colony optimization and Fisher ratio (F ratio)-based techniques. Ants generally search the food from the nest to the food source in the way that maximizes the intensity of pheromone (a chemical secretion). The proposed technique considers that the movements of the artificial ants are steered by the local intensity variation in the image pixel. The directions of ants movements in the image are determined using a direction probability matrix, computed by pheromone and heuristic information of possible directions. In this work, F ratio technique is utilized to determine the optimum threshold value from updated pheromone matrix. This threshold value is further used to extract binary edge map from pheromone matrix. The experiment is conducted on the different test images, i.e., Cameraman, Lena, Coins, Peppers, House and Pillsetc image. The proposed edge detection algorithm is evaluated on the basis of statistical parameters such as kappa, figure of merit, Baddeley’s delta metric and Hausdorff distance, and the experimental results show that the proposed method performs better as compared to earlier reported techniques in most of the cases.  相似文献

The interaction between participation and the emergence of common knowledge is the subject matter of this paper. A case study of a single class provides the focal point of analysis. During the semester the students participated in a blogging activity. As a result of their participation, the students create and distribute knowledge. The online efforts of the students can be described as participation in both a discourse and knowledge community. At one level, blogging is an activity composed of writing, reading, and commenting, and at a second level, the students share their thoughts in their own voices. At a third level, over the course of the semester, the student posts and commentary form a commons of information that can be mined later in the semester for other kinds of learning activities. Knowledge creation, distribution, and accumulation are analyzed in terms of student participation at both the level of individual events and from the perspective of an ongoing community.  相似文献

The persulfate (S(2)O(8)(2-))-induced photochemical decomposition of C(3)F(7)CF=CHCOOH in water was investigated to develop a method to neutralize stationary sources of fluorotelomer unsaturated carboxylic acids (FTUCAs), which have recently been detected in the environment, and are considered to be more toxic than the environmentally persistent perfluorocarboxylic acids (PFCAs). Photolysis of S(2)O(8)(2-) produced highly oxidative sulfate radical anions (SO(4)(-)), which efficiently decomposed C(3)F(7)CF=CHCOOH to F(-) and CO(2) via C(3)F(7)COOH. With an initial S(2)O(8)(2-) concentration of 12.5mM and irradiation from a 200-W xenon-mercury lamp, C(3)F(7)CF=CHCOOH at a concentration of 680muM was completely decomposed within 5min. When 8.00mM S(2)O(8)(2-) was used, the initial rate of C(3)F(7)CF=CHCOOH decomposition induced by 254-nm light irradiation was 45 times as high as that with photolysis alone. The apparent quantum yield for the C(3)F(7)CF=CHCOOH decomposition with 6.25mM S(2)O(8)(2-) and 254-nm light was 2.4, indicating that virtually all SO(4)(-) anions produced by the photolysis of S(2)O(8)(2-) contribute to the decomposition of C(3)F(7)CF=CHCOOH.  相似文献

We study the properties of quasi-stationary, partially coherent, plane-wave optical pulses in the space-time and space-frequency domains. A generalized van Cittert-Zernike theorem in time is derived to describe the propagation of the coherence function of quasi-stationary pulses. The theory is applied to rectangular pulses chopped from a stationary light source, and the evolution characteristics of such pulse trains with different states of coherence are discussed and illustrated with numerical examples.  相似文献

Aim

The aim of this study was to identify demographic and behavioural factors associated with pre-licensed driving.

Method

A cohort comprising 3526 newly licensed drivers aged 15–24 years old from throughout New Zealand completed a questionnaire which sought information on pre-licensed driving behaviour and factors thought to be related to this.

Results

Almost half of the participants had driven on-road prior to passing their learner license theory test; 14% had driven more than 20 times; and 7.5% had driven more than 200 km. Multivariate logistic regression showed the results differed depending on the outcome examined. In general pre-licensed driving was significantly higher among males, among Māori, those living in a rural area, and those living in an area of high deprivation. Furthermore, those who drove pre-licensed were more likely to engage in other risky behaviours such as hazardous drinking and cannabis use, and have medium to high scores for sensation seeking and aggression/hostility.

Conclusion

The young people who were pre-licensed drivers displayed a range of demographic and behavioural characteristics that indicate they may be at higher crash risk than their peers who did not drive before licensing. Identifying those who drive before licensing and targeting road safety interventions towards this group may help reduce the high crash risk among novice drivers.  相似文献

We describe a method for image transmission through an aberrating medium by means of a modified configuration for conventional ghost diffraction with classical incoherent beams. On the basis of optical coherence theory, we show that the effects of phase disturbances, be they deterministic or random, can be canceled out in our method and the squared modulus of the Fourier transform of the object is obtained in terms of intensity-correlation measurements. From the measurement data, the object can be reconstructed using standard phase retrieval algorithms.  相似文献
