The influence of the local postbuckling behaviour on the bending of thinwalled beams is studied. The analysis of the postbuckling behaviour of a prismatic column-beam subject to compression and bending is employed in order to determine the overall flexural stiffness of a beam after local buckling. The asymptotic Koiter method is used in the second order approximation. The determination of post-buckling coefficients enables one to find the beam's flexural stiffness without the necessity of using hypotheses on effective widths of eccentrically compressed plates. It is shown that the post-buckling equilibrium branch in a bending moment-global curvature coordinate system for a perfectly elastic thin-walled beam is rectilinear (in the second order approximation of' the asymptotic method). Simple analytical relations are presented between the slope of the post-buckling equilibrium branch of global bending and post-buckling coefficients for local buckling mode. The results obtained are compared with data reported by other authors.  相似文献

Summary.  This paper presents a Byzantine Agreement protocol with n=8t+1, optimal number of rounds (namely min{ f+2, t+1} where f is number of actual faults), and messages of linear size (namely mn+O(log n), where m stands for message size). All previous protocols that stop in optimal time and tolerate t=O(n) faults require messages of size at least O(n 2). The new protocol uses a novel technique called Reconstructed Traversal which is based on the Reconstruction Principle and on the Coordinated Traversal protocol. A novel approach for on-line introduction of internal standard (IS) for quantitative analysis using LC-MS/MS has been developed. In this approach, analyte and IS are introduced into the sample injection loop in different steps. Analyte is introduced into the injection loop using a conventional autosampler (injector) needle pickup from a sample vial. IS is introduced into the sample injection loop on-line from a microreservoir containing the IS solution using the autosampler. As a result, both analyte and IS are contained in the sample loop prior to the injection into the column. Methodology allowed to reliably introduce IS and demonstrated injection accuracy and precision comparable to those obtained using off-line IS introduction (i.e., IS and analyte are premixed before injection) while maintaining chromatographic parameters (i.e., analyte and IS elution time and peak width). This new technique was applied for direct analysis of model compounds in rat plasma using on-line solid-phase extraction (SPE) LC-MS/MS quantification. In combination with on-line SPE, IS serves as a surrogate IS and compensates for signal variations attributed to sample preparation and instrumentation factors including signal suppression. The assays yielded accuracy (85-119%), precision (2-16%), and analyte recovery comparable to those obtained using off-line IS introduction. Furthermore, on-line IS introduction allows for nonvolumetric sample (plasma) collection and direct analysis without the need of measuring and aliquoting a fixed sample volume prior to the on-line SPE LC-MS/MS analysis. Therefore, this methodology enables direct sample (plasma) analysis without any sample manipulation and preparation.  相似文献

Understanding how humans control unstable systems is central to many research problems, with applications ranging from quiet standing to aircraft landing. Increasingly, much evidence appears in favour of event-driven control hypothesis: human operators only start actively controlling the system when the discrepancy between the current and desired system states becomes large enough. The event-driven models based on the concept of threshold can explain many features of the experimentally observed dynamics. However, much still remains unclear about the dynamics of human-controlled systems, which likely indicates that humans use more intricate control mechanisms. This paper argues that control activation in humans may be not threshold-driven, but instead intrinsically stochastic, noise-driven. Specifically, we suggest that control activation stems from stochastic interplay between the operator''s need to keep the controlled system near the goal state, on the one hand, and the tendency to postpone interrupting the system dynamics, on the other hand. We propose a model capturing this interplay and show that it matches the experimental data on human balancing of virtual overdamped stick. Our results illuminate that the noise-driven activation mechanism plays a crucial role at least in the considered task, and, hypothetically, in a broad range of human-controlled processes.  相似文献

Grain boundary (GB) migration in polycrystalline solids is a materials science manifestation of survival of the fittest, with adjacent grains competing to add atoms to their outer surfaces at each other's expense. This process is thermodynamically favored when it lowers the total GB area in the sample, thereby reducing the excess free energy contributed by the boundaries. In this picture, a curved boundary is expected to migrate toward its center of curvature with a velocity proportional to the local radius of boundary curvature (R). Investigating the underlying mechanism of boundary migration in a 3D material, however, has been reserved for computer simulation or analytical theory, as capturing the dynamics of individual atoms in the core region of a GB is well beyond the spatial and temporal resolution limits of current characterization techniques. Here, we similarly overcome the conventional experimental limits by investigating a 2D material, polycrystalline graphene, in an aberration-corrected transmission electron microscope, exploiting the energy of the imaging electrons to stimulate individual bond rotations in the GB core region. The resulting morphological changes are followed in situ, atom-by-atom, revealing configurational fluctuations that take on a time-averaged preferential direction only in the presence of significant boundary curvature, as confirmed by Monte Carlo simulations. Remarkably, in the extreme case of a small graphene grain enclosed within a larger one, we follow its shrinkage to the point of complete disappearance.  相似文献

Large-area graphene substrates provide a promising lab bench for synthesizing, manipulating, and characterizing low-dimensional materials, opening the door to high-resolution analyses of novel structures, such as two-dimensional (2D) glasses, that cannot be exfoliated and may not occur naturally. Here, we report the accidental discovery of a 2D silica glass supported on graphene. The 2D nature of this material enables the first atomic resolution transmission electron microscopy of a glass, producing images that strikingly resemble Zachariasen's original 1932 cartoon models of 2D continuous random network glasses. Atomic-resolution electron spectroscopy identifies the glass as SiO(2) formed from a bilayer of (SiO(4))(2-) tetrahedra and without detectable covalent bonding to the graphene. From these images, we directly obtain ring statistics and pair distribution functions that span short-, medium-, and long-range order. Ab initio calculations indicate that van der Waals interactions with graphene energetically stabilizes the 2D structure with respect to bulk SiO(2). These results demonstrate a new class of 2D glasses that can be applied in layered graphene devices and studied at the atomic scale.  相似文献

Realizing photon upconversion in nanostructures is important for many next- generation applications such as biological labelling, infrared detectors and solar cells. In particular nanowires are attractive for optoelectronics because they can easily be electrically contacted. Here we demonstrate photon upconversion with a large energy shift in highly n-doped InP nanowires. Crucially, the mechanism responsible for the upconversion in our system does not rely on multi-photon absorption via intermediate states, thus eliminating the need for high photon fluxes to achieve upconversion. The demonstrated upconversion paves the way for utilizing nanowires--with their inherent flexibility such as electrical contactability and the ability to position individual nanowires--for photon upconversion devices also at low photon fluxes, possibly down to the single photon level in optimised structures.  相似文献

Part 2 of the paper presents the neural network as a meta‐model for one‐dimensional fibrous materials which was elaborated on the basis of a discrete‐event simulation model that was presented in Part 1 of the paper. The architecture of the full‐size and part‐size network was developed and tested. The training set for the neural networks was obtained from the simulation model. The results of the sensitivity analysis of the neural networks have showed that the standard deviations of the fiber length and the fineness have no affect on the irregularity of the fibrous material. Testing has shown a high‐level coincidence between the simulation results and the prediction of the neural network meta‐model.  相似文献

This paper presents a model of the roll‐drafting process which is based on the concept of discrete‐event simulation (DES). This model is free of limitations and simplifications which are inherent in the known models of the roll‐drafting process and is able to trace each separated fiber within the roll‐drafting zone. Due to this feature DES model enables investigation of a wide range of roll‐drafting cases and representations. The influence of the parameters of the basic roll‐drafting model was studied. Models of the first and the second limit schemes, models with a randomly distributed velocity change point, and a model with a shifting velocity change point were elaborated and studied on the basis of the basic model of the roll‐drafting process. The effect of the feedback depth was simulated and analyzed in the frame of the model with the shifting velocity change point. The elaborated model and the obtained results will be useful for creating a neural network meta‐model of the roll‐drafting process.  相似文献
