Notes that recovery from combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is often complicated by unacknowledged problems with alcohol and anger. 102 males combat veterans (aged 42–63 yrs) entering a residential PTSD rehabilitation program completed University of Rhode Island Change Assessment and process-of-change questionnaires based on J. O. Prochaska and C. C. DiClemente's transtheoretical model (TTM; J. O. Prochaska et al, 1992). Separate assessments were made for alcohol abuse and anger control. Four motivational subtypes were identified for both problems. Motivation to change alcohol problems was independent of that for anger. Relative to less-motivated peers highly motivated patients were more like to spontaneously identify alcohol or anger as problems in their life and made greater use of change strategies specified by the TTM. This paper is aimed at the solution of the optimal power flow (OPF) problem with embedded security constraints (OPF-SC) by the particle swarm optimizer. The major objective is to minimize the overall operating cost while satisfying the power flow equations, system security, and equipment operating limits. The overall operating cost is composed by the generation cost, transmission cost, and the consumer benefit. A modification of the conventional particle swarm optimizer (PSO) has been used as the optimization tool, which uses reconstruction operators and dynamic penalization for handling constraints. The reconstruction operators allow the increase of the number of particles within the feasible region. The power equations mismatch, loss active power transmission, and voltages are calculated by the Newton–Raphson method. To demonstrate its robustness, the proposed algorithm was tested on systems from the open literature. Several cases have been studied to test and validate the proposed approach. 相似文献

Proper use or disposal of wastewater solids is an important responsibility of wastewater treatment plants. At present, there are several options for wastewater solids, including agriculture, forestry, and mine reclamation reuse; production of marketable products such as compost and dried pellets; and disposal in landfills and incinerators. Land application of biosolids products is beneficial as part of recycling efforts on local farms, forests, tree farms, and mines and has gained greater acceptance of late. Coupled with these beneficial aspects are odors, which must be managed relative to the receiving populations. In this paper we present several statistical models that predict biosolids odor levels based on processing and management variables as well as ambient conditions. Such models are useful to managers at advanced wastewater treatment plants in helping them to better forecast the biosolids odors and minimize the “odor footprint,” thus making these biosolids products better received. 相似文献

In the recovery period after strenuous exercise, there is increased O2 uptake, termed the excess postexercise O2 consumption (EPOC). One of the mechanisms suggested to explain EPOC is activation of the triglyceride/fatty acid (TG/FA) cycle by catecholamines. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of selective beta1- and nonselective beta-adrenoceptor blockade on EPOC and the TG/FA cycle. Seven healthy young men each participated in three control and three exercise experiments in a randomized and balanced sequence. In the exercise experiments, subjects exercised for 90 minutes at 58% +/- 2% (mean +/- SD) of maximal O2 uptake on a cycle ergometer, followed by a 4.5-hour bedrest. The control experiments followed the same protocol, but without exercise. In one control and one exercise experiment, the selective beta1-adrenoceptor antagonist atenolol (0.062 mg.kg(-1) body weight) was administered intravenously immediately after the exercise (EXAT) and at the corresponding time in the rest-control experiment (REAT). In a second set of control and exercise experiments, the nonselective beta-adrenoceptor antagonist propranolol (0.15 mg.kg(-1) body weight) was administered (REPRO and EXPRO). In a third set of rest and exercise experiments, an injection of saline was given instead of beta-antagonist (RE and EX). TG/FA cycling was calculated by combining results obtained with a two-stage glycerol infusion and indirect calorimetry. O2 uptake was significantly increased above control levels throughout the recovery period after exercise with the nonselective beta-adrenoceptor antagonist, beta1-adrenoceptor antagonist, and saline. However, there was no difference between the time course or magnitude of EPOC in the three situations. After 4.5 hours of bedrest, the mean increase in O2 uptake was 8% to 9% in all three conditions. TG/FA cycling was increased after exercise, but no effects of beta-antagonists were observed. We conclude that EPOC and the rate of TG/FA cycling are not attenuated by selective beta1- or nonselective beta-adrenoceptor blockade after an acute prolonged exercise protocol. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: The relationship of the burn wound flora to microbial pathogens in the tracheobronchial tree has important implications for antimicrobial therapy in the severely burned patient. Management of septic complications is bolstered by surveillance quantitative wound cultures (QWC) and bronchial lavage fluid (BLF) cultures. OBJECTIVES: To compare the organisms present in BLF with those found in QWC and to determine if QWC can predict BLF results. DESIGN: Results of BLF cultures from all patients who underwent bronchial lavage from January 1, 1996, to December 31, 1996, at our institution were compared with QWC data from the same date. Criteria for a positive match included an identical antibiotic susceptibility pattern and biotype. Match rates were calculated qualitatively and quantitatively. RESULTS: In 30 (48%) of the 62 BLF cultures, there was a match between the organism identified in the BLF and the QWC. When strict quantitative criteria were applied, the match rate was only 9 (14%) of 62. Burn size and inhalation injury had no significant effect on match rate. CONCLUSIONS: Whereas the microbial pathogens were similar in the QWC and BLF, linear regression showed no value of QWC in predicting BLF culture results. The difference between qualitative and quantitative match rates suggests cross-colonization between the burn wound and tracheobronchial tree, but little to no cross-infection. The QWC and BLF cultures must be performed independently in determining antimicrobial specificity in the burned patient. 相似文献

Min-max model predictive controllers (MMMPC) suffer from a great computational burden that is often circumvented by using approximate solutions or upper bounds of the worst possible case of a performance index. This paper proposes a computationally efficient MMMPC control strategy in which a close approximation of the solution of the min-max problem is computed using a quadratic programming problem. The overall computational burden is much lower than that of the min-max problem and the resulting control is shown to have a guaranteed stability. A simulation example is given in the paper. 相似文献

The literature reports many scientific works on the use of artificial intelligence techniques such as neural networks or fuzzy logic to predict surface roughness. This article aims at introducing Bayesian network-based classifiers to predict surface roughness (Ra) in high-speed machining. These models are appropriate as prediction techniques because the non-linearity of the machining process demands robust and reliable algorithms to deal with all the invisible trends present when a work piece is machining. The experimental test obtained from a high-speed milling contouring process analysed the indicator of goodness using the Naïve Bayes and the Tree-Augmented Network algorithms. Up to 81.2% accuracy was achieved in the Ra classification results. Therefore, we envisage that Bayesian network-based classifiers may become a powerful and flexible tool in high-speed machining. 相似文献

This study investigated the effects of chronic muscle inflammation on indices of antioxidant status and muscle injury after eccentric exercise. Eight subjects each performed 70 maximal voluntary eccentric muscle actions on an isokinetic dynamometer, using the knee extensors of a single leg. Venous blood samples were collected into serum and EDTA tubes 5 and 3 days before exercise, immediately before exercise, and then again on days 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10 and 12 after the bout. Needle biopsies were taken from the vastus lateralis of six subjects, a week before exercise (baseline), and again on days 4 and 7 post-exercise. The concentrations of malondialdehyde in plasma and muscle were used as markers of lipid peroxidation. Creatine kinase activity, beta-glucuronidase activity and total antioxidant capacity were determined in serum. In muscle, aqueous and bound total antioxidant capacity, the aqueous sulphydryl concentration, and beta-glucuronidase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity were determined. No changes were detected in serum total antioxidant capacity, serum creatine kinase and beta-glucuronidase after the baseline biopsy. After exercise serum creatine kinase and beta-glucuronidase were elevated although other serum measures were unchanged. In muscle, aqueous and bound total antioxidant capacity, sulphydryls, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and beta-glucuronidase were all elevated. Despite evidence of inflammation in this study, muscle antioxidant status was not compromised, and malondialdehyde was unaltered in muscle and plasma. A mathematical model earlier proposed has been improved to predict the kinetics of multicomponent reactions in the hot metal pretreatment through the injection of reactive fluxes. It is assumed that there are two reaction zones along the flux injection operation: a transitory reaction between the rising particles and the bulk metal, and the permanent reaction between the metal and the top slag. A criterion to estimate the fraction of solids which will react with molten iron in a three‐phase jet (gas‐solid‐liquid) was considered; this fraction of solids carries out the transitory reaction. The model also takes into account the thermodynamic changes produced in the metal and slag due to the chemical reactions. Calculated results of the model are in good agreement with experimental results for the desulfurization of hot metal through the injection of CaO‐SiO2‐CaF2‐FeO‐Na2O reagents at 1400 ‐ 1450 °C. Two kinds of hot metal were tested, one with a low carbon mass content of 3 % and the other with a high carbon mass content of 4.5 %. 相似文献
