Extrusion blow molding is a well-established technology for the manufacture of fossil-based plastic bottles. The process is, however, still little used for the manufacture of bottles with a low environmental footprint, especially those based on bioplastic from renewable sources. In this context, the objective of this work is precisely the study and experimental design of poly(lactic acid) PLA/poly(butylene succinate) PBS/micro-lamellar talc compounds for the manufacturing of bioplastic bottles, basically for wine packaging. In particular, the design was carried out to ensure, primarily, an adequate processability of the bioplastic material in the blowing process. Second, the compound was loaded with different micro-lamellar talc content so as to achieve protection from the environmental factors, which is of paramount importance to ensure a long shelf-life to wine. The bio-derived polyester resins are very complex to transform, as they are subject to thermo-hydrolytic degradation phenomena during the processing of the polymer melt. Processability is further limited in the presence of high micro-lamellar talc content that increases the melt viscosity, thus making the material even more difficult to shape by extrusion blow molding. The experimental analysis involved the use of a co-rotating twin-screw extruder for the manufacture of the bioplastic compounds. The compounds were first subjected to thermo-rheological and physical characterization tests. Second, it was tested in the extrusion blow molding process. The experimental results have shown that blends based on bio-derived polyester resins can be adequately processed by extrusion blow molding, showing extremely stable rheological behavior both during the extrusion phase of the parison and the subsequent blowing process of the parison itself. These blends have, therefore, an interesting potential to be used as an alternative with a low environmental footprint to oil-based plastics in the production of wine bottles.  相似文献

Titanium nitride (TiN) coating has been proposed as an adjunctive surface treatment aimed to increase the physico-mechanical and aesthetic properties of dental implants. In this study we investigated the biological response of primary human bone marrow stromal cells (BMSC) to TiN-coated sandblasted (TiN-SB) compared to uncoated sandblasted (SB) surfaces. SB and TiN-SB disks were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by atomic force microscopy. BMSC were obtained from healthy donors and their adhesion and proliferation on the titanium disks were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy and viability assay. The osteoblastic differentiation, in terms of alkaline phosphatase activity, osteocalcin synthesis, and extracellular mineralization, was assessed by specific immunoenzymatic or spectrophotometric assays. No difference (P > 0.05) between TiN-SB and SB disks was found in terms of any of the investigated parameters. TiN-coating showed to maintain the topographical characteristics of sandblasted titanium surfaces and their biological affinity toward bone precursors.  相似文献

Poly (lactic acid) polymers (PLA) belong to the bioplastic family of polymers entirely derived from renewable resources. Among biopolymers, PLA is one of the most technologically interesting materials, thanks to its good mechanical properties and to its moderate thermal stability. There are many fields of application in which the use of PLA seems to be promising, including cast extrusion and thermoforming. However, the strong tendency of PLA to degrade compromises the possibility of recovering the so-called post-process material (i.e., process waste), making PLA and most bioplastics difficult to use in production processes that require a physiological reuse of post-process material, such as the thermoforming process, where huge amounts of scrap material is naturally produced during the trimming phase. In this context, the present study examines the effect of three successive compounding processes by twin-screw reactive extrusion on the rheological and thermal properties of two formulations of compostable bioplastic materials based on PLA, in the presence of a chain extender additive. Subsequently, virgin compounds and post-process material were mixed and cast extruded into slabs. The slabs were then characterized to evaluate their rheological, thermal, and mechanical properties. Finally, the effect of the chain extender was evaluated by adding the additive directly during the cast extrusion of slabs made with 100% post-process material. The results showed that the twin-screw compounding process induces a lower degradation in the material compared to the cast extrusion process. Furthermore, experimental findings show that adding the chain extender during the cast extrusion process of the slabs proved to be an effective post-process material recovery strategy.  相似文献

The prevalence of idiopathic male infertility is high, up to 75% of patients with abnormal sperm parameters. Hence, the research of its causes is mandatory. Oxidative stress (OS) can be responsible for male infertility in 30–80% of cases. In recent years, seminal plasma (SP) proteomics has developed as a useful tool to provide biomarkers of specific diseases. This systematic review aims to collect the available evidence on the changes of SP proteome in patients exposed to OS to provide possible SP biomarkers of sperm OS. To accomplish this, the following keyterms “seminal fluid proteome”, “seminal plasma proteome”, “oxidative stress”, and “sperm oxidative stress” were used and 137 records were found. Among these, 17 were finally included. Nine proteins involved with OS were found overexpressed in patients with OS. Twenty-three proteins were found differentially expressed in patients with clinical conditions associated with OS, such as varicocele, male accessory gland infection/inflammation, cigarette smoke, and obesity. These proteins do not seem to overlap among the clinical conditions taken into account. We speculate that specific SP proteins may mediate OS in different clinical conditions. Altogether, these results suggest that proteomics could help to better understand some of the molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of infertility. However, further studies are needed to identify potential biomarkers of male infertility with valuable clinical significance.  相似文献

Tadalafil is a selective phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE5) inhibitor that is approved for the treatment of men with erectile dysfunction (ED) and/or benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) -associated symptoms. Besides its classical actions on PDE5 within the genitourinary tract, where the specific enzyme expression is maximal, it may exert different systemic effects. This is mainly due to the pleiotropic distribution of PDE5 enzyme throughout the human (and animal) body, where it can exert protective effects in different clinical conditions. Recently, it has been demonstrated that tadalafil may display novel actions on androgen receptor (AR) expression and activity and cytochrome P19a1 (Cyp19a1) and estrogen receptor β (ERβ) expression in different in vitro systems, such as adipose, bone and prostate cancer cells, where it can act as a selective modulator of steroid hormone production. This may determine novel potential mechanism(s) of control in pathophysiologic pathways. In this review, we summarize basic research and translational results applicable to the use of tadalafil in the treatment of obesity, bone loss and prostate cancer.  相似文献

Maitotoxin holds a special place in the annals of natural products chemistry as the largest and most toxic secondary metabolite known to date. Its fascinating, ladder-like, polyether molecular structure and diverse spectrum of biological activities elicited keen interest from chemists and biologists who recognized its uniqueness and potential as a probe and inspiration for research in chemistry and biology. Synthetic studies in the area benefited from methodologies and strategies that were developed as part of chemical synthesis programs directed toward the total synthesis of some of the less complex members of the polyether marine biotoxin class, of which maitotoxin is the flagship. This account focuses on progress made in the authors' laboratories in the synthesis of large maitotoxin domains with emphasis on methodology development, strategy design, and structural comparisons of the synthesized molecules with the corresponding regions of the natural product. The article concludes with an overview of maitotoxin's biological profile and future perspectives.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of operating conditions on the quality of dried foods, monitoring shrinkage, rehydration capacity, and color changes. Carrot samples of different shapes and dimensions were dried in a convective oven by air whose temperature and velocity were chosen in a range of physical significance. Two values of air velocity, i.e., 2.8 and 2.2 m/s, were considered; air temperature was chosen equal to 50 °C, 70 °C, and 85 °C. It was observed that more drastic drying conditions indeed improved the drying rate, but were also responsible for a decrease of food rehydration capacity. Food behavior was observed comparing some characteristic parameters as obtained upon fitting the experimental data by simple modeling equations. In particular, the drying curves were fitted by the Newton’s model, whereas, shrinkage was modeled by a linear relationship between volume variation and moisture content. Rehydration capacity was estimated by water regain percentage, which was evaluated after 5 h.  相似文献

Surface acoustic waves (SAW) 433 and 315 MHz, two-port resonator-based oscillators coated with a Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) thin layer of chemosensitive cadmium arachidate (CdA) provide highly sensitive chemical acoustic sensors for detection and monitoring of organic vapors, at room temperature. LB CdA film-coated silica optical fibers (SOF) have been successfully fabricated and studied for organic solvents molecules sensing applications. The sensing performance of both types of acoustic and optical transducers has been compared for detecting six molecular species. Simultaneous measurements of frequency changes (delta f) and optoelectronic signal changes (deltaV) of the LB CdA film assembled onto SAW sensors and SOF devices have been realized for organic vapors recognition purposes. Six molecular species such as ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, ethylacetate, acetone, and toluene have been identified and recognized by a specific index (deltaf/deltaV), which can be considered a characteristic property of the chemosensitive material. The discrimination of the six molecular species examined also has been obtained by chemical patterns using a couple of specific index (deltaf433/deltaV; deltaf315/deltaV) measured by combining SAW 433 or 315 MHz oscillators and SOF sensing devices. Transient responses, calibration curves, intertransducer relationships, and chemical patterns are presented and discussed.  相似文献

A common concern with many autoimmune diseases of unknown etiology is the extent to which tissue T-lymphocyte infiltrates, versus a nonspecific infiltrate, reflect a response to the causative agent. Lyme arthritis can histologically resemble rheumatoid synovitis, particularly the prominent infiltration by T lymphocytes. This has raised speculation about whether Lyme synovitis represents an ongoing response to the causative spirochete, Borrelia burgdorferi, or rather a self-perpetuating autoimmune reaction. In an effort to answer this question, the present study examined the repertoire of infiltrating T cells in synovial fluid from nine Lyme arthritis patients, before and after stimulation with B. burgdorferi. Using a highly sensitive and consistent quantitative PCR technique, a comparison of the T-cell antigen receptor (TCR) beta-chain variable (Vbeta) repertoires of the peripheral blood and synovial fluid showed a statistically significant increase in expression of Vbeta2 and Vbeta6 in the latter. This is remarkably similar to our previous findings in studies of rheumatoid arthritis and to other reports on psoriatic skin lesions. However, stimulation of synovial fluid T cells with B. burgdorferi provoked active proliferation but not a statistically significant increase in expression of any TCR Vbeta, including Vbeta2 and Vbeta6. Collectively, the findings suggest that the skewing of the TCR repertoire of fresh synovial fluid in Lyme arthritis may represent more a synovium-tropic or nonspecific inflammatory response, similar to that occurring in rheumatoid arthritis or psoriasis, rather than a specific Borrelia reaction.  相似文献
