In this work, a mathematical model is proposed to describe the thermal performance of a radiative distiller under transient conditions. The parameters which cause the dynamic variation in the condenser performance are the finite thermal capacity of the radiative condenser panel, effective sky-temperature, ambient temperature, humidity ratio and the condensers overall heat transfer coefficient. The presented model is solved numerically and the effects of the design and operating conditions on the condensers performance are investigated. 相似文献

Cardiovascular morbidity is the leading cause of death of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) syndrome patients. Nocturnal airway obstruction is associated with intermittent hypoxia (IH). In our previous work with cell lines, incubation with sera from OSA patients induced changes in cell morphology, NF-κB activation and decreased viability. A decrease in beating rate, contraction amplitude and a reduction in intracellular calcium signaling was also observed in human cardiomyocytes differentiated from human embryonic stem cells (hESC-CMs). We expanded these observations using a new controlled IH in vitro system on beating hESC-CMs. The Oxy-Cycler system was programed to generate IH cycles. Following IH, we detected the activation of Hif-1α as an indicator of hypoxia and nuclear NF-κB p65 and p50 subunits, representing pro-inflammatory activity. We also detected the secretion of inflammatory cytokines, such as MIF, PAI-1, MCP-1 and CXCL1, and demonstrated a decrease in beating rate of hESC-CMs following IH. IH induces the co-activation of inflammatory features together with cardiomyocyte alterations which are consistent with myocardial damage in OSA. This study provides an innovative approach for in vitro studies of OSA cardiovascular morbidity and supports the search for new pharmacological agents and molecular targets to improve diagnosis and treatment of patients. 相似文献

The possibility of immunizing dogs orally against rabies, using SADBern, an attenuated strain, was tested on dogs in the field in Tunisia. This strain induced high neutralizing antibody titres and conferred to all vaccinated dogs total resistance against a challenge with a Maghrebian strain. However, an excretion of virus of vaccinal origin was observed in one dog, hampering the use of SADBern in dogs. Nevertheless, this work demonstrates for the first time that dogs in developing countries, especially those which are inaccessible to parenteral vaccination, could be efficiently immunized against rabies by the oral route. 相似文献

A new software package, Virtual Column 2, is described for the simulation and optimization of the separation of inorganic anions by ion chromatography (IC). The software uses a limited amount of experimental retention data acquired according to a correct experimental design to predict retention times for analytes over a designated search area of eluent compositions. The experimental retention data are used to solve a new retention model, called the linear solvent strength model, empirical approach (LSSM-EA), which then enables prediction of retention times for all eluent compositions in the search area. The theoretical development of LSSM-EA and the processes used for solving the equations are discussed. Virtual Column 2 can be used for eluents containing one or two competing ions, and the software contains retention databases for up to 33 analytes on the Dionex AS9A-HC, AS4A-SC, and AS14A analytical columns with carbonate-bicarbonate eluents and the Dionex AS10, AS15, and AS16 analytical columns with hydroxide eluents (results for the AS10 and AS15 columns are not discussed in the present study). Virtual Column 2 has been evaluated extensively and is shown to give predicted retention times that in most cases agree with experimentally determined data to within 5%. The software has uses in practical IC method development, education and training in IC, and refinement of existing IC methodology. Studies on stepped spillways as flood energy dissipators have been conducted to understand the hydraulics on the stepped face of roller-compacted concrete dams as well as overlays of embankment dams. Significant energy losses occur along the stepped chute so that the energy dissipation structure becomes smaller and more economic. In addition, considering the design discharge, downstream face slope, height of spillway, different combinations of spillway width and number of spillway steps may lead to different head losses. In each feasible combination, the remaining head after the steps should be dissipated by downstream energy dissipators. Design and construction of spillways and energy disspators are very cost-consuming and build up a major part of the dam's construction expenses. Thus, the cost of a financially viable stepped spillway project that consists of the steps’ cost and downstream dissipator's cost should be minimised. In this paper, the honey-bee mating optimisation (HBMO) algorithm is used to determine the best combination of design variables so as to minimise the total cost of both spillway chute and stilling basin. Results are compared with those previously obtained by genetic algorithm (GA) and show the promising potential of the HBMO algorithm in this field of application. 相似文献

High-speed, long-wavelength InAlAs/InGaAs OEIC photoreceivers based on a p-i-n/HBT shared layer integration scheme have been designed, fabricated and characterized. The p-i-n photodiodes, formed with the 6000 Å-thick InGaAs precollector layer of the HBT as the absorbing layer, exhibited a responsivity of ~0.4 A/W and a -3 dB optical bandwidth larger than 20 GHz at λ=1.55 μm. The fabricated three-stage transimpedance amplifier with a feedback resistor of 550 Ω demonstrated a transimpedance gain of 46 dBΩ and a -3 dB bandwidth of 20 GHz. The monolithically integrated photoreceiver with a 83 μm p-i-n photodiode consumed a small dc power of 35 mW and demonstrated a measured -3 dB optical bandwidth of 19.5 GHz, which is the highest reported to date for an InAlAs/InGaAs integrated front-end photoreceiver. The OEIC photoreceiver also has a measured input optical dynamic range of 20 dB. The performance of individual devices and integrated circuits was also investigated through detailed CAD-based analysis and characterization. Transient simulations, based on a HSPICE circuit model and previous measurements of eye diagrams for a NRZ 231-1 pseudorandom binary sequence (PRBS), show that the OEIC photoreceiver is capable of operation up to 24 Gb/s 相似文献

Single-drift GaAs TUNNETT diodes were mounted on diamond heat sinks for improved thermal resistance and evaluated around 100 GHz in a radial line full height waveguide cavity. The diodes were fabricated from MBE-grown material originally designed for diodes that operate in CW mode around 100 GHz on integral heat sinks. An RF output power of more than 70 mW with a corresponding DC to RF conversion efficiency of 4.9% was obtained at 105.4 GHz. This is the first successful demonstration of GaAs TUNNETT diodes mounted on diamond heat sinks. To the authors' knowledge, these DC to RF conversion efficiencies and RF power levels are the highest reported to date from TUNNETT diodes and exceed those of any single discrete device made of group III-V materials (GaAs, InP, etc.) at this frequency. Free-running TUNNETT diode oscillators exhibit clean spectra with an excellent phase noise of less than -94 dBc/Hz, measured at a frequency off-carrier of 500 kHz and an RF output power of 40 mW 相似文献
