On smoke control for tunnels by longitudinal ventilation

Two aspects of smoke control by longitudinal ventilation systems in tunnels is analysed. The first is the increase in air entrainment rate of the plume after operating the system, and the second is the increase in heat release rate as a consequence of increase in air supply rate for combustion. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was applied for verifying the study. Keypoints to consider in the design of longitudinal ventilation systems are noted.     

Progress in the study of mechanism of fetal scarless wound healing

From January 1987 to December 1993, 426 patients with lung cancer were operated in our hospital, among which 159 patients were diagnosed postoperatively to be N2 disease by pathology including 81 central type and 78 peripheral type lung cancer. Radical operations were performed on 135 cases, palliative operations on 24 cases. Follow up study: one-year survival rate was 71.7%, three-year survival rate 29.0% and five-year survival rate 21.7%. The main factors affecting operative results are tumor cell type, the number and location of metastatic lymph nodes and the thoroughness of dissection. Tumor staging, except T4 tumor is not a main factor influencing prognosis. The indications of operation performed on N2 lung cancer and the necessity of extensive nodal exenteration are also discussed in this article. We consider extensive hilar and mediastinal nodal exenteration necessary in order to achieve radical resection and good prognosis.     

Simultaneous cross-linking of CD6 and CD28 induces cell proliferation in resting T cells

In the present study, we showed that simultaneous ligation of the monoclonal antibodies (mAb) against CD6 and CD28 induces T-cell proliferation in purified resting T lymphocytes in the absence of T-cell receptor (TCR) occupancy. No cell proliferation was observed when the mAb were cross-linked alone or used simultaneously in the soluble form. T-cell proliferation mediated through CD6/CD28 is accompanied by the up-regulation of interleukin-2 (IL-2) mRNA and expression of IL-2 receptors on the cell surface. In the presence of IL-2-neutralizing mAb the proliferative response of the T cell induced through CD6/CD28 was inhibited dose dependently. Cross-linking mAb to CD6 and CD28 alone or together did not down-regulate the CD3/TCR complex. T-cell proliferation mediated through CD6/CD28 was only partially blocked by the immunosuppressive drug, cyclosporin A (CsA), whereas anti-CD28-induced T-cell proliferation in the presence of the phorbol ester, 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA), was unaffected. In sharp contrast T-cell proliferation mediated by anti-CD6 in the presence of TPA was efficiently blocked by CsA. In addition, two protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitors, GF 109203X and H-7 dose-dependently inhibited T-cell proliferation mediated through CD6/CD28, suggesting that PKC activation may be involved. Furthermore, there was a marked differential dose-dependent inhibitory effect of the PKC inhibitors on T-cell proliferation mediated by the co-ligation of anti-CD6 or anti-CD28 in the presence of anti-CD3, with the former being more sensitive to PKC inhibition. Taken collectively, our results suggest that T-cell activation can occur through an antigen-independent pathway by cross-linking the accessory molecules, CD6 and CD28, and that these two cell surface antigens may have distinct signalling pathways.     

China＇s Electric Power Reform：Different Economics and Challenges

China＇s electric power reform has followed the western reform format, however, it doest not seem to have endorsed the liberalization ideology underlying the reform model. This raises the concern of whether and how a competitive power market may be established and reform objectives reached. The new market competition model is easy to build in theory. The experience of many countries suggests that the market reform is extremely difficult because of the interruptions by different interest groups. To transform a centrally planned power sector into a competitive power market is a daunting task. Policy makers need to take into consideration the transitional nature of the economy and power industry as they implement the competitive power market model.     

降低射频电路串扰噪声的布线方法

研究并解决了无障碍多层无网格射频电路的布线问题,主要包括三个部分:设计规则、串扰噪声限制和布线方法.首先通过设计规则计算连线参数,运用RLc模型估算串扰噪声,然后,按照需要连接的实节点个数进行归类并提出相应的布线算法.实验结果表明,该布线方法可有效地降低射频电路的串扰噪声.

Formation and Characterization of 1.5-Monolayer Self-Assembled InAs/GaAs Quantum Dots Using Postgrowth Annealing

In this paper, we report that low-density InAs/GaAs quantum dots (QDs) can be formed by postgrowth annealing the samples with 1.5-monolayer (ML) InAs coverage, which is thinner than the critical layer thickness for the Stranski-Krastanov growth. The annealing procedure was performed immediately after the deposition of the InAs layer. The effects of annealing time and annealing temperature on the dot density, dot size, and optical characteristics of the QDs were investigated. The optimum annealing conditions to obtain low-density QDs are longer than 60 s and higher than 500degC . Meanwhile, no luminescence can be observed for the wetting-layer, which may suggest that the postgrowth annealing will make the wetting layer thinner and thus reduce the effects of wetting layer on carrier relaxation and recombination. On the other hand, we observe that a decrease of the PL intensity at the annealing conditions of 60 s and 515degC , which is possibly due to the increasing surface dislocations resulted from the In adatom desorption at higher annealing temperature.     

An Area Optimization Method for Digital Filter Design

In this paper, we propose an efficient design method for area optimization in a digital filter. The conventional methods to reduce the number of adders in a filter have the problem of a long critical path delay caused by the deep logic depth of the filter due to adder sharing. Furthermore, there is such a disadvantage that they use the transposed direct form (TDF) filter which needs more registers than those of the direct form (DF) filter. In this paper, we present a hybrid structure of a TDF and DF based on the flattened coefficients method so that it can reduce the number of flip‐flops and full‐adders without additional critical path delay. We also propose a resource sharing method and sharing‐pattern searching algorithm to reduce the number of adders without deepening the logic depth. Simulation results show that the proposed structure can save the number of adders and registers by 22 and 26%, respectively, compared to the best one used in the past.
