Hepatic metallothionein (MT) levels and mixed function oxidase (MFO) activity (7-ethoxyresorufin-o-deethylase or EROD) were measured in fingerling rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) exposed to sublethal concentrations of 12 pulp and paper effluents, after completion of 96 h static acute lethality assays. Barring one primary-treated effluent where MFO levels were significantly depressed and two secondary-treated effluents where no significant MFO induction were observed, all other effluents triggered significant induction of MT and EROD, regardless of mill process/treatment or of effluent lethality and chemical characteristics. MT and EROD inductions were significant, however, at higher concentrations for secondary-treated effluents than for primary-treated ones. Lethal (96 h LC50s) to sublethal (MT and EROD lowest observable effect concentrations) ratios were variable and indicated that significant biochemical effects were present at effluent concentrations that were roughly 4–33 (MT) and 3–59 (EROD) times lower than the LC30. Enzyme induction ranged from 1.3 to 2.5-fold for MT and from 1.3 to 9.4-fold for EROD compared to controls. Limited chemical data available suggest that there were indeed classes of compounds present capable of inducing MT or EROD. Observed patterns of MT/MFO responses also suggest that contaminant interactions may have interfered with induction for some of the effluents studied. Refinements of this combined (sub)lethal bioassay procedure are envisaged to determine whether it can provide an efficient means of detecting hazardous chemicals in industrial wastewaters.  相似文献

Results from an experimental investigation of BQ01 nanofiltration (NF) are reported in this paper aiming at delineating the role of process parameters on BQ01 performances. The data highlight the specific behavior of BQ01 membranes in response to solute type and to variations in solution concentration. Variations in permeability and separation factors due to the presence of electrolytes are recorded. It is demonstrated that the concentration polarization cannot explain the observed variations. To elucidate the mechanisms related to this particular membrane, another approach based on conformational properties of polymer coating (sulfonated polyphenylene oxide, SPPO) is proposed and discussed in relation with characterization results. The hypothesis about mechanisms that are developed in this part will be confronted to a series of NF experiments under the same operating conditions but under electric field (ENF) in part 2 of this study.  相似文献

A study of three R&D organizations in two Swedish companies, both committed to increasingly leaner R&D and with an innovation focus, certainly indicates that a small group of extra innovative inventors in each organization outperform their colleagues in terms of patents applied for. Polypropylene homopolymers and ethylene/propylene‐random‐copolymers formulated with and without anti‐blocking additives were extruded to cast films with an industrial scale extruder equipped with a soft box, a specific air knife that expels a higher volume of air at lower velocity. The films were analyzed as to their optical properties haze and clarity. A comprehensive topographical characterization was performed using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and confocal microscopy. To obtain morphological information on a nanometer scale AFM phase imaging, micro‐thermal analysis and small angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) were done. A significant effect of additives and processing conditions on the film topography and the optical properties was revealed. The films without anti‐blocking and antacid aids showed the best optical properties and lowest vertical roughness fluctuations. In contrast, the addition of anti‐blocking and antacid aids reduced the optical properties associated with an increase in surface roughness. While for films without anti‐blocking aids an enhanced soft box condition resulted in lower vertical fluctuations of roughness and better optical properties, the behavior was in reverse for films with anti‐blocking aid. By means of SAXS crystalline lamellae with a thickness of about 2.5 nm were detected. High‐resolution phase imaging AFM yielded thicker crystal lamellae on the film surface. POLYM. ENG. We present an interactive, menu-driven software package which allows the design of three-dimensional structures from standardized component modules. The standardized component modules used as example building blocks in the project are rectangular solids of several sizes.

The system has been designed such that its output (i.e. the design database) can be used to automatically generate a robot motion program to assemble the designed structure.

Presented are the system database and its internal data structure, an object placement-sequencer algorithm, a height specification and interference checking algorithm, and a balance-checking algorithm. To avoid the creation of dynamic obstacles and interference of the robot arm with these obstacles, the proper sequencing of the blocks in the design database is essential. The object placement-sequencer algorithm is responsible for proper sequencing of the blocks in the design database to avoid the aforementioned problem. The height specification and interference checking algorithm automatically generates the proper positioning of a block in the design by performing a sequential search over the accumulated design structure. The stacking feasibility of the blocks in the design is verified by the balance-checking algorithm, prior to the acceptance of the block as a permanent part of the design.  相似文献
