Development of catalysts based on pyrovanadates for diesel soot combustion   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Pyrovanadates of potassium and cesium were prepared and tested as catalysts for low-temperature combustion of carbon. Their catalytic activity was investigated by both temperature-programmed oxidation and thermogravimetric analysis and compared with that displayed by the metavanadates of the same elements, previously proposed as promising catalysts for soot combustion in diesel emissions. Pyrovanadates show an intrinsic catalytic activity noticeably higher than that of the corresponding metavanadates. In particular, cesium pyrovanadate is capable of lowering the ignition temperature of carbon down to 255°C and to provide a high combustion rate already at about 300°C. Such quite interesting results were confirmed in a pilot plant study on the performance of -Al2O3 ceramic foam traps whose pore walls had been lined with catalysts based on either Cs meta- or pyro-vanadates, so as to enable trap self-regeneration by catalytic combustion of the filtered particulate.  相似文献

The intermediates for the production of nonionic surfactants can be derived from petrochemicals and/or from renewable raw materials. In both, the role of catalysis is fundamental. In this paper the main results reported in the literature related with the catalysis for ethoxylation of fatty esters will be reviewed. The present study aimed to investigate the phytochemical profile of leaf methanol extracts of fourteen Smallanthus sonchifolius (yacon) landraces and their antioxidant, anticholinesterase and antidiabetic activities that could lead to the finding of more effective agents for the treatment and management of Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes. For this purpose, antioxidant activity was assessed using different tests: ferric reducing ability power (FRAP), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH), nitric oxide (˙NO) and superoxide (O2˙) scavenging and lipid peroxidation inhibition assays. Anticholinesterase activity was investigated by quantifying the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibitory activities, whereas antidiabetic activity was investigated by α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition tests. To understand the contribution of metabolites, phytochemical screening was also performed by high performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector (HPLC-DAD) system. Among all, methanol extract of PER09, PER04 and ECU44 landraces exhibited the highest relative antioxidant capacity index (RACI). ECU44 was found to be rich in 4,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid (CQA) and 3,5-di-O-CQA and displayed a good α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition, showing the lowest IC50 values. Flavonoids, instead, seem to be involved in the AChE and BChE inhibition. The results of this study revealed that the bioactive compound content differences could be determinant for the medicinal properties of this plant especially for antioxidant and antidiabetic activities.  相似文献

In this study, we report the distribution of orexin A (OXA), orexin B (OXB), and orexin receptor (OX2R) immunoreactive (ir) cells in the hypothalamus and gastrointestinal tract of Oncorhynchus mykiss fed diets with different dietary fatty acid compositions. Trout were fed five iso‐energetic experimental diets containing fish oil, or one of four different vegetable oils (olive, sunflower, linseed, and palm oils) as the added dietary lipid source for 12 weeks. OXA, OXB, and OX2R immunoreactive neurons and nervous fibers were identified in the lateral and ventro‐medial hypothalamus. OXA, OXB, and OX2R ir cells were found in the mucosa and glands of the stomach and in the mucosa of both the pyloric cecae and intestine. OX2R ir cells were localized in the mucosa layer of both the pyloric cecae and intestine. These immunohistochemical (IHC) results were confirmed via Western blotting. Antibodies against preproorexin (PPO) crossreacted with a band of ~16 kDa in the hypothalamus, stomach, pyloric cecae, and intestine. Antibodies against OX2R crossreacted with a band of ~38 kDa in the hypothalamus, pyloric cecae, and intestine. The presence and distribution of OXA, OXB, and OX2R ir cells in the hypothalamus and gastrointestinal tract did not appear to be affected by dietary oils. The presence of orexin system immunoreactive cells in the stomach, pyloric cecae, and intestine of rainbow trout, but not in the enteric nervous system, could suggest a possible role of these peptides as signaling of gastric emptying or endocrine modulation, implying a main local action played by orexins. The recent concept of inherent safety uses the properties of a material or process to eliminate or reduce the risk thus removing or minimizing the hazard at the source as opposed to accept the hazard and looking to mitigate the effects. In this framework the control of particle size in dust explosion prevention and mitigation is recognized as a major inherent safety methodology. Indeed, the increase of particle size may allow significant reduction of particle reaction rate eventually reducing the risk.In this paper a novel model is developed to quantify the effect of particle size on dust reactivity in an explosion phenomenon. The model takes into account all of the steps involved in a dust explosion: internal and external heating, devolatilization reaction and volatiles combustion. Varying the dust size can establish different regimes depending on the values of the characteristic time of each step and of several dimensionless numbers (Damköhler number, Da; Biot number, Bi; thermal Thiele number, Th). Results from the model are reported in terms of the deflagration index (KSt) as a function of dust diameter in all regimes and at varying Da, Th and Bi. Comparison with experimental data from polyethylene explosion tests shows promising results. Finally, the results of the model are presented in the form of a dust explosion regime diagram, which is helpful to make a draft evaluation of the role of dust size on explosion behavior and severity.  相似文献

Diverse management techniques have been used to mitigate conflicts between humans and double-crested cormorants (Phalacrocorax auritus) including harassment methods supplemented by lethal take. In this study we evaluated impacts of programs to harass spring migrating cormorants on the walleye (Sander vitreus) fishery in Brevoort Lake and the yellow perch (Perca flavescens) and walleye fisheries at Drummond Island. Cormorant foraging declined significantly (p < 0.05) at both locations subsequent to initiation of harassment programs. Overall harassment deterred 90% of cormorant foraging attempts while taking less than 6% lethally on average at each site. Yellow perch were a predominate prey item in number and biomass at both locations. Walleye made up a small proportion of the diet at both locations. However, both walleye and yellow perch abundance increased significantly (p < 0.05) at Drummond Island. Walleye abundance at age 3 increased to record levels in 2008 following 3 years of cormorant management at Brevoort Lake. The estimated cormorant consumption of age-1 walleye in the absence of management at Brevoort Lake during 2005 would account for 55% of the record 2006 age-1 walleye population. These results support the hypothesis that cormorant predation on spawning aggregations of sportfish was a significant mortality factor and cormorant management reduced sportfish mortality and increased abundance at both locations. Continuation of harassment programs and fishery assessments will determine whether improvement of targeted sport fisheries through control of spring migrating cormorants is sustainable.  相似文献

This paper presents a new method for quantifying uncertainty in the predictions of a nanomaterial computational model to account for variability in the constituent nanostructure properties and characterization measurements. The stiffness of a buckypaper–polymer composite is predicted using a micromechanics model. The model requires from the user as inputs the nanostructure properties, including the diameter, length, and curvature distribution of the carbon nanotubes which shows large variability. The current characterization techniques used to describe these dimensions are subject to considerable measurement error. We propose a constrained nonlinear programming approach for quantification of raw material variability and its impact on the property prediction of buckypaper–polymer composites. The uncertainty quantification method is useful for decision making to predict probability that the quality characteristic of the final part will satisfy design constraints. A case study based on data from a real buckypaper manufacturing process was used to illustrate the approach. It is shown that modeling the correlation between nanostructure properties using a multivariate distribution rather than independent univariate distributions is important to accurately quantify the effect of these properties on the final-part property.  相似文献

A preliminary characterization of two new soft-seeded pomegranate varieties (MR-100® and KINGDOM®) based on their main physico-chemical and nutritional parameters was reported. The two varieties showed significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) in polyphenols, anthocyanins and antioxidant activity. Kingdom pomegranate had higher polyphenols (2524.73 mg GAE/L), anthocyanins (752.49 mg C3gE/L) and antioxidant activity (EC50 13.58 μL/mL) than MR-100 (1792.74 mg GAE/L, 141.29 mg C3gE/L and EC50 47.53 μL/mL, respectively). Moreover, minimally processed arils of the two varieties were packaged in semipermeable and micro-perforated film at 5 °C, and the quality changes that occurred during storage condition (15 days) were investigated. During storage, Kingdom arils exhibited a better performance in terms of antioxidant activity, polyphenols and anthocyanin content with respect to MR-100. Furthermore, the packaging systems did not affect the estimated quality parameters for both varieties. Based on the sensory evaluation and microbial counts, both aril varieties reached, at 15-day storage, suitable values for commercial purpose.  相似文献

Networks of N identical catalytic reactors with periodically switched inlet and outlet sections are studied for first‐order irreversible exothermic reactions. Switching strategies with inlet and outlet sections periodically jumping a fixed number ns of reactors are considered and the mechanisms governing the formation of traveling temperature wave‐trains are analyzed as ns and N are varied. To this aim, a geometric approach to the analysis of the network energy balance is developed. Based on this approach, infinite domains of traveling temperature wave‐trains are predicted for any ns and N. Analytical approximations are derived for the stability limits and the spatiotemporal patterns of these regimes. Stability boundaries predicted analytically include for any solution the largest part of the stability region computed by numerical simulation. Moreover, good agreement is found between the structure of the spatiotemporal patterns computed numerically and that predicted based on the proposed approach. © 2011 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2012  相似文献
