The temperature and Zn concentration dependence of the electrical resistivity, specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra of YBa2(Cu1–x Zn x )3O7–y withy0.1 has been measured forx0.16. In addition, the temperature and field dependence of the magnetization has been measured for 2<T<300K and 0<H<9.0T, along with the temperature and quasihydrostatic pressure dependence of the electrical resistivity for selected samples for 0<P<13 GPa. The substitution of Zn for Cu in YBa2Cu3O7–y causes a rapid and nearly linear depression of the superconducting transition temperature,T c , withT c going to 0 K forx 0.10. YBa2(Cu1–x Zn x )3O7–y retains the YBa2Cu3O7-y orthorhombic structure forx0.16 for both the superconducting and nonsuperconducting samples. Initially, the unit cell volume increases nearly linearly with Zn content; however, an abrupt change occurs in the vicinityx=0.8–0.10. Forx<0.10, the temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity,(T), is metallic-like (d/dT>0) and increases gradually with increasing Zn content. However, forx 0.10,(T) becomes semiconductor-like, with a very rapid increase of the resistivity with increasingx. The electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, EPR spectra, and specific heat all indicate that thed-holes associated with the Cu ions become localized in the nonsuperconducting phase,x>-0.10.  相似文献

Previous studies from our laboratory have demonstrated that the mitochondrial protein manganese superoxide dismutase is inactivated, tyrosine nitrated, and present as higher molecular mass species during human renal allograft rejection. To elucidate mechanisms whereby tyrosine modifications might result in loss of enzymatic activity and altered structure, the effects of specific biological oxidants on recombinant human manganese superoxide dismutase in vitro have been evaluated. Hydrogen peroxide or nitric oxide had no effect on enzymatic activity, tyrosine modification, or electrophoretic mobility. Exposure to either hypochlorous acid or tetranitromethane (pH 6) inhibited (approximately 50%) enzymatic activity and induced the formation of dityrosine and higher mass species. Treatment with tetranitromethane (pH 8) inhibited enzymatic activity 67% and induced the formation of nitrotyrosine. In contrast, peroxynitrite completely inhibited enzymatic activity and induced formation of both nitrotyrosine and dityrosine along with higher molecular mass species. Combination of real-time spectral analysis and electrospray mass spectroscopy revealed that only three (Y34, Y45, and Y193) of the nine total tyrosine residues in manganese superoxide dismutase were nitrated by peroxynitrite. Inspection of X-ray crystallographic data suggested that neighboring glutamate residues associated with two of these tyrosines may promote targeted nitration by peroxynitrite. Tyr34, which is present in the active site, appeared to be the most susceptible residue to peroxynitrite-mediated nitration. Collectively, these observations are consistent with previous results using chronically rejecting human renal allografts and provide a compelling argument supporting the involvement of peroxynitrite during this pathophysiologic condition.  相似文献

Four trials were conducted in which laboratory-reared Dermacentor variabilis nymphs were exposed to Ehrlichia canis by feeding on experimentally infected dogs as soon as classical morulae were detected in peripheral blood monocytes. After molting 25, 50 or 90 adult tick pairs were permitted to feed on 7 Ehrlichia-naive dogs. Transmission occurred in trials 1 (1/1 dog), 3 (1/1 dog) and 4 (2/2 dogs) but not in trial 2 (0/3 dogs), with 4 of 7 dogs becoming infected. Successful transstadial transmission was demonstrated by detection of morulae in peripheral blood lymphocytes and by seroconversion to Ehrlichia canis 30 d post-exposure. Incubation periods ranged between 17 and 22 days (mean = 19). Clinical signs, typical of ehrlichiosis, included mucopurulent ocular discharge, lymphadenopathy and malaise with accompanying pyrexia, leukopenia and thrombocytopenia. Pyrexia, thrombocytopenia and erythrophagocytosis and vacuolization of the cytoplasm of monocytic cells were observed 1-4 d prior to detection of morulae. This is the first demonstration that a tick other than Rhipicephalus sanguineus is capable of transstadial transmission of this important pathogen of dogs.  相似文献

A self-consistent ensemble Monte Carlo simulation of charge transport in AlGaInP quantum-well (QW) lasers has been developed in an effort to understand the temperature sensitivity of these devices. In particular, the lasing capability of a three-well design has been studied at 300 and 360 K. Although the electron and hole leakage currents are found to increase with the temperature, this does not explain a reduction in the emitted light hole emission time intensity for the particular device studied. Instead, the fall in the light output is due to increased emission from the QW's, since this reduces the net electron and hole capture efficiency  相似文献

Immune function in SLE is paradoxically characterized by active T cell help for autoantibody production, along with impaired T cell proliferative and cytokine responses in vitro. To reconcile these observations, we investigated the possibility that the accelerated spontaneous cell death of SLE lymphocytes in vitro is caused by an activation-induced cell death process initiated in vivo. 27 SLE patients, three patients with systemic vasculitis, seven patients with arthritis, and 14 healthy subjects were studied. Patients with clinically active SLE or systemic vasculitis had accelerated spontaneous death of PBMC with features of apoptosis at day 5 of culture. A prominent role for IL-10 in the induction of apoptosis was observed, as neutralizing anti-IL-10 mAb markedly reduced cell death in the active SLE patients by 50%, from 22.3 +/- 5.2% to 11.2 +/- 2.8%, and the addition of IL-10 decreased viability in the active SLE group, but not in the control group, by 38%. In addition, apoptosis was shown to be actively induced through the Fas pathway. The potential clinical relevance of T cell apoptosis in active SLE is supported by the correlation of increased apoptosis and IL-10 levels in vitro with low lymphocyte counts in vivo. We conclude that the spontaneous cell death observed in vitro in lymphocytes from patients with SLE and other systemic autoimmune disorders results from in vivo T cell activation, is actively induced by IL-10 and Fas ligand, and reflects pathophysiologically important events in vivo. Activation-induced cell death in vivo provides a pathogenic link between the aberrant T helper cell activation and impaired T cell function that are characteristic features of the immune system of patients with SLE.  相似文献

The Hydrosphere State Mission (Hydros) is a pathfinder mission in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Earth System Science Pathfinder Program (ESSP). The objective of the mission is to provide exploratory global measurements of the earth's soil moisture at 10-km resolution with two- to three-days revisit and land-surface freeze/thaw conditions at 3-km resolution with one- to two-days revisit. The mission builds on the heritage of ground-based and airborne passive and active low-frequency microwave measurements that have demonstrated and validated the effectiveness of the measurements and associated algorithms for estimating the amount and phase (frozen or thawed) of surface soil moisture. The mission data will enable advances in weather and climate prediction and in mapping processes that link the water, energy, and carbon cycles. The Hydros instrument is a combined radar and radiometer system operating at 1.26 GHz (with VV, HH, and HV polarizations) and 1.41 GHz (with H, V, and U polarizations), respectively. The radar and the radiometer share the aperture of a 6-m antenna with a look-angle of 39/spl deg/ with respect to nadir. The lightweight deployable mesh antenna is rotated at 14.6 rpm to provide a constant look-angle scan across a swath width of 1000 km. The wide swath provides global coverage that meet the revisit requirements. The radiometer measurements allow retrieval of soil moisture in diverse (nonforested) landscapes with a resolution of 40 km. The radar measurements allow the retrieval of soil moisture at relatively high resolution (3 km). The mission includes combined radar/radiometer data products that will use the synergy of the two sensors to deliver enhanced-quality 10-km resolution soil moisture estimates. In this paper, the science requirements and their traceability to the instrument design are outlined. A review of the underlying measurement physics and key instrument performance parameters are also presented.  相似文献

In ferrimagnets, under a dc magnetic field, magnon-phonon coupling can result in such effects as acoustic birefringence and Faraday rotation. From our work on acoustic Faraday rotation in nonellipsoidal samples of YIG, we found three regions of rotation. The low field region has an internal magnetic field insufficient for effective phonon-magnon conversion. Fitting the rotation observed to the theory we find values for the second magnetoelastic constant and the average demagnetizing field. Between the low and middle field regions a decrease in the amplitude of the transmitted elastic wave was observed and attributed to spin-wave losses. The middle field region was characterized by conversion of elastic energy into spin waves. Regions of inefficient conversion were observed. Faraday rotation was again observed in the high field region.  相似文献

Previous research had demonstrated a linear relationship between ego disjunction (the result of incompatible, conflicting needs, as measured by the EPPS) and severity of psychopathology. These results were not cross-validated. The MMPI turned out to be more effective than the EPPS in discriminating psychotics from nonpsychotics. Explorations for these findings are offered.
