Polydorou and Capsalis [1] pioneered the concept of POCA distribution to study the statistical behavior of the fast fading characteristics in an indoor environment under the assumption of finite number of scatters. In this note, we derive a comprehensive class of formulas for the POCA distribution to help better statistical modeling of the fast fading characteristics. Delay-bounded packet scheduling of bursty traffic over wireless channels   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
In this paper, we study minimal power transmission of bursty sources over wireless channels with constraints on mean queuing delay. The power minimizing schedulers adapt power and rate of transmission based on the queue and channel state. We show that packet scheduling based on queue state can be used to trade queuing delay with transmission power, even on additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels. Our extensive simulations show that small increases in average delay can lead to substantial savings in transmission power, thereby providing another avenue for mobile devices to save on battery power. We propose a low-complexity scheduler that has near-optimal performance. We also construct a variable-rate quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM)-based transmission scheme to show the benefits of the proposed formulation in a practical communication system. Power optimal schedulers with absolute packet delay constraints are also studied and their performance is evaluated via simulations.  相似文献

Indoor infrared communication systems is one of the possible ways of offering data rates in excess of 100 Mbit/s without the need for wiring. Multiple users can share an infrared channel by code division-multiple access (CDMA) techniques. However, the CDMA system performance is limited by both background noise and co-channel interference. In this paper we study the use of angle diversity for mitigating the effects of the noise and interference. The system considered uses on-off shift keying modulation with multibeam transmitters and imaging receivers. The overall system performance for different diversity combining techniques is evaluated and compared to a system without diversity. Numerical results for a 2-user CDMA system indicate that signal to noise and interference ratio (SNIR) improvement (over systems with no diversity) of 5 dB is obtained for at least 50% of an ensemble of 10000 sample evaluations. The generalized selection combining (GSC)--a new diversity technique yet to be implemented for infrared systems--offers the best performance even with its reduced complexity.  相似文献

Buffer analysis has traditionally relied heavily on the use of traffic models with short range (exponentially decaying) autocorrelation, e.g. Poisson and Markov modulated Poisson processes. Recent literature has suggested the presence of traffic with slowly (hyperbolically) decaying autocorrelation functions; these sources collectively and individually seem to be exhibiting the phenomenon of long range dependence (LRD). Furthermore, it has been claimed that this sort of traffic may exhibit behaviour, when buffered, that is advantageous in that a smaller buffer may be required than would be the case with non-LRD traffic. This phenomenon has been named the crossover effect, and the authors quantify its relevance to ATM networking, using simulation studies of a homogenous mix of chaotic sources. These show that there is a crossover effect, but the key finding is that this effect is much nearer to a buffer length of zero than was predicted by previous theoretical studies, actually occurring at a value so low that it has no practical significance  相似文献

Thermogravimetry was used to study the oxidation of aluminum powders at elevated temperatures. Aluminum powders of various particle sizes and surface morphologies were heated in oxygen up to 1500 °C at different heating rates. Partially oxidized samples were recovered from selected intermediate temperatures and the oxide phases present were analyzed by X-ray diffraction. The experimental data were related to current information on stabilities and phase changes of Al2O3 polymorphs. Aluminum powders were observed to oxidize in four distinct stages in the temperature range from 300 to 1500 °C. During stage I, from 300 to about 550 °C, the thickness of the natural amorphous alumina layer on the particle surface increases. The rate of this process is controlled by the outward diffusion of Al cations. At about 550 °C, when the oxide layer thickness exceeds the critical thickness of amorphous alumina of about 4 nm, the oxide transforms into γ-Al2O3. The specific volume of γ-Al2O3 is less than that of amorphous alumina; therefore, the newly formed γ-Al2O3 only partially covers the aluminum surface. The oxidation rate increases rapidly at the onset of stage II, but it decreases when the γ-Al2O3 layer becomes continuous. During stage III oxidation, the γ-Al2O3 layer grows and partially transforms into the structurally similar θ-Al2O3 polymorph. Finally, oxidation stage IV is observed after the transition to stable -Al2O3 results in an abrupt reduction of oxidation rate. Qualitative analysis of the rates of oxidation at the different stages enables one to understand the wide range of aluminum ignition temperatures observed for particles of different sizes.  相似文献

In this comprehensive review article, we present the theory of symmetry in two-dimensional (2-D) filter functions and in 2-D Fourier transforms. It is shown that when a filter frequency response possesses symmetry, the realization problem becomes relatively simple. Further, when the frequency response has no symmetry, there is a technique to decompose that frequency response into components each of which has the desired symmetry. This again reduces the complexity of two-dimensional filter design. A number of filter design examples are illustrated.  相似文献

Engineering the texture and nanostructure to improve the electrical conductivity of semicrystalline conjugated polymers must address the rate-limiting step for charge carrier transport. In highly face-on orientation, the charge transport between chains within a crystallite becomes rate-limiting, which is highly sensitive to the π–π stacking distance and interchain charge transfer integral. Here, face-on oriented semicrystalline poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) thin films are grown via water-assisted (W-A) oxidative chemical vapor deposition (oCVD). Combining W-A with the volatile oxidant, antimony pentachloride, yields an optimized electrical conductivity of 7520  ±  240 S cm−1, a record for PEDOT thin films. Systematic control of π–π stacking distance from 3.50 Å down to 3.43 Å yields an electrical conductivity enhancement of ≈ 1140%. The highest electrical conductivity also corresponds to minimum in Urbach energy of 205 meV, indicating superior morphological order. The figure of merit for transparent conductors, σdcop, reaches a maximum value of 94, which is 1.9 × and 6.7 × higher than oCVD PEDOT grown without W-A and utilizing vanadium oxytrichloride and iron chloride oxidizing agents, respectively. The W-A oCVD is single-step all-dry process and provides conformal coverage, allowing direct growth on mechanical flexible, rough, and structured surfaces without the need for complex and costly transfer steps.  相似文献

Halide perovskites are a versatile class of semiconductors employed for high performance emerging optoelectronic devices, including flexoelectric systems, yet the influence of their ionic nature on their mechanical behavior is still to be understood. Here, a combination of atomic-force, optical, and compositional X-ray microscopy techniques is employed to shed light on the mechanical properties of halide perovskite films at the nanoscale. Mechanical domains within and between morphological grains, enclosed by mechanical boundaries of higher Young's Modulus (YM) than the bulk parent material, are revealed. These mechanical boundaries are associated with the presence of bromide-rich clusters as visualized by nano-X-ray fluorescence mapping. Stiffer regions are specifically selectively modified upon light soaking the sample, resulting in an overall homogenization of the mechanical properties toward the bulk YM. This behavior is attributed to light-induced ion migration processes that homogenize the local chemical distribution, which is accompanied by photobrightening of the photoluminescence within the same region. This work highlights critical links between mechanical, chemical, and optoelectronic characteristics in this family of perovskites, and demonstrates the potential of combinational imaging studies to understand and design halide perovskite films for emerging applications such as photoflexoelectricity.  相似文献
