Ten soybean genotypes grown in 1992 with seed size ranging from 7.6 to 30.3 g/100 seeds and maturity group V or VI were selected
and tested for oil and protein content and for fatty acid composition. In these germplasm, protein varied from 39.5 to 50.2%,
oil, 16.3 to 21.6%, and protein plus oil, 59.7 to 67.5%. Percentages of individual fatty acids relative to total fatty acids
varied as follows: palmitic, 11.0 to 12.8; stearic, 3.2 to 4.7; oleic, 17.6 to 24.2; linoleic, 51.1 to 56.3 and linolenic,
6.9 to 10.0. Seed size showed no significant correlations with individual saturated fatty acids, protein or oil content. However,
significant correlations were found between seed size and individual unsaturated fatty acids: positive with oleic, and negative
with linoleic and linolenic. Oil and protein content were negatively correlated with each other. Among the major fatty acids,
only the unsaturated were significantly correlated with each other: negative between oleic and linoleic or linolenic, and
positive between linoleic and linolenic. A subsequent study with soybeans grown in 1993 generally confirmed these findings.
Variation in relative percentages of unsaturated fatty acids andr values for most pairs of relationships were even higher than those obtained from the 1992 crop.

This work examines the properties of starch esters for their possible application as environmentally degradable thermoplastics. The rheological, thermal, and mechanical properties of a series of fatty-acid esters of high-amylose starch (as well as the effects of adding plasticizer on some selected properties) were evaluated. The ester group acts like an internal plasticizer, with an increase in the size of the fatty-acid chain, resulting in greater internal plasticization. This is reflected in the rheological and thermal measurements as well as in the mechanical properties. Overall, larger ester groups and the addition of external plasticizer make these starch-based materials more processable and more ductile. However, comparing their properties and cost to commodity thermoplastics leads us to believe that their commercial applications are likely to be limited, at least in the near future. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 相似文献

The exact equations defining steady-state operation of a controlled current induction motor drive system are derived by solving the system state equations in the stationary reference frame. These equations, which assume ideal current filtering, eliminate the difficulties involved in taking derivatives of discontinuous currents by defining a pair of pseudocurrent variables. Effects of saturation are included by using the slope ratio method. Electromagnetic torque and current pulsations are computed for various load conditions, and experimental confirmation of the calculated results is made. Similarities and differences to voltage controlled characteristics are presented. It is shown that normal open-loop operation occurs on the unstable side of the torque-slip characteristic necessitating the use of feedback control for stable operation. 相似文献

for measurement data. The design coordinate system is determined using the Voronoi diagrams. The measurement and design coordinate

Construction and demolition waste (CDW) are the largest waste products in the world today and competes as a viable recycled additive material in place of natural aggregates. Due to the increase in compressive strength of different mix proportions of CDW, it is also considered for reuse in concrete and subbase construction. This study shows the effect of CDW in expansive soil stabilization. The chemical and mechanical properties of these materials have shown that they are capable of developing compressive strength properties for replacement of cement with significant reduction in carbon emission. The inherent compositional properties of recycled CDW compared in this review suggests that CDW have good filler properties in highly expansive soils. Mixtures of crushed brick and recycled aggregates characterised based on chemical properties of different replacement ratios suggests that CDW of good-quality aggregates reduces swell potential of expansive soils and increased mechanical strength in pavement construction. 相似文献

Increased levels of bacterial resistance to antibiotics noted in recent decades poses a significant obstacle to the effective treatment and prevention of disease. Although overuse of antibiotics in agriculture and medicine is partially responsible, environmental exposure to heavy metals may also contribute to antibiotic resistance, even in the absence of antibiotics themselves. In this study, a series of eight lab-scale activated-sludge reactors were amended with Zn and/or a suite of three antibiotics (oxytetracycline, ciprofloxacin, and tylosin), in parallel with unamended controls. Classical spread-plating methods were used to assess resistance to these compounds in culturable bacteria over 21 weeks. After seven weeks of general acclimation and development of baseline resistance levels (phase 1), 5.0 mg/L Zn was added to half of the reactors, which were then operated for an additional 7 weeks (phase 2). For the final seven weeks (phase 3), two of the Zn-amended reactors and two of the control reactors were amended with all three antibiotics, each at 0.2 mg/L. Zn amendment alone did not significantly change resistance levels at the 95% confidence level in phase 2. However, tylosin resistance increased significantly during phase 3 in the Zn-only reactors and resistance to all three antibiotics significantly increased as a consequence of combined Zn+antibiotic amendments. Ambient dissolved Zn levels in the reactors were only 12% of added levels, indicating substantial Zn removal by adsorption and/or precipitation. These results show that sub-toxic levels of Zn can cause increased antibiotic resistance in waste treatment microbial communities at comparatively low antibiotic levels, probably due to developed cross-resistance resulting from pre-exposure to Zn. 相似文献

There is a growing interest in integrated control strategies for building systems with numerous responsive elements, such as solar shading devices, thermal storage and hybrid ventilation systems, both for energy efficiency and for demand response. Model predictive control is a promising way of approaching this challenge. This paper presents a flexible software framework for model predictive control using GenOpt, along with a modified genetic algorithm developed for use within it, and applies it to a case study of demand response by zone temperature ramping in an office space. Municipal biosolids are a source of nutrients for crop production. Beneficial Management Practices (BMPs) can be used to minimize the risk of contamination of adjacent water resources with chemical or microbial agents that are of public or environmental health concern. In this field study, we applied biosolids slurry at a commercial rate using either subsurface injection or broadcast application followed by incorporation. Precipitation was simulated at 1, 3, 7, 22, 36 and 266 days post-application on 2 m2 microplots to evaluate surface runoff of 9 model pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), atenolol, carbamazepine, cotinine, gemfibrozil, naproxen, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, sulfamethoxazole and triclosan. In runoff from the injected plots, concentrations of the model PPCPs were generally below the limits of quantitation. In contrast, in the broadcast application treatment, the concentrations of atenolol, carbamazepine, cotinine, gemfibrozil, naproxen, sulfamethoxazole and triclosan on the day following application ranged from 70-1477 ng L− 1 in runoff and generally declined thereafter with first order kinetics. The total mass of PPCPs mobilized in surface runoff per m2 of the field ranged from 0.63 µg for atenolol to 21.1 µg for ibuprofen. For ibuprofen and acetaminophen, concentrations in runoff first decreased and then increased, suggesting that these drugs were initially chemically or physically sequestered in the biosolids slurry, and subsequently released in the soil. Carbamazepine and triclosan were detected at low concentrations in a runoff event 266 days after broadcast application. Overall, this study showed that injection of biosolids slurry below the soil surface could effectively eliminate surface runoff of PPCPs. 相似文献
