We report the frequency and type of infectious ocular complications following orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) and review diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. During the period September 1988 through November 1994, 684 patients underwent OLT at Mount Sinai Hospital (New York). Nine orthotopic liver transplant patients (1.3%) developed ocular infections: Candida albicans endophthalmitis (2), Aspergillus fumigatus endophthalmitis (1), cytomegalovirus retinitis (4), herpes simplex virus keratitis (1), and varicella-zoster virus panophthalmitis (1). The mean time from OLT to ocular symptoms was 42 days for patients with fungal infections and 128 days for patients with viral infections. Blurred vision was the commonest symptom (five of nine cases). The mean duration of follow-up was 2 years (range, 33 days to 5 years). Permanent loss of vision occurred in three patients, five had improvement in visual acuity, and one died of disseminated aspergillosis 33 days after OLT. Infectious ocular complications following OLT may occur as isolated events or with disseminated disease. Fungal infections occur earlier (mean, 42 days after OLT) than viral infections (mean, 4 months after OLT). The clinical presentation may be atypical; aggressive vitreoretinal procedures and serial examinations may be required to establish the diagnosis. Cytomegalovirus retinitis in orthotopic liver transplant patients may not require life-long maintenance therapy with antiviral agents.  相似文献

The application of liquid‐exfoliated 2D transition metal disulfides (TMDs) as the hole transport layers (HTLs) in nonfullerene‐based organic solar cells is reported. It is shown that solution processing of few‐layer WS2 or MoS2 suspensions directly onto transparent indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes changes their work function without the need for any further treatment. HTLs comprising WS2 are found to exhibit higher uniformity on ITO than those of MoS2 and consistently yield solar cells with superior power conversion efficiency (PCE), improved fill factor (FF), enhanced short‐circuit current (JSC), and lower series resistance than devices based on poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) and MoS2. Cells based on the ternary bulk‐heterojunction PBDB‐T‐2F:Y6:PC71BM with WS2 as the HTL exhibit the highest PCE of 17%, with an FF of 78%, open‐circuit voltage of 0.84 V, and a JSC of 26 mA cm?2. Analysis of the cells' optical and carrier recombination characteristics indicates that the enhanced performance is most likely attributed to a combination of favorable photonic structure and reduced bimolecular recombination losses in WS2‐based cells. The achieved PCE is the highest reported to date for organic solar cells comprised of 2D charge transport interlayers and highlights the potential of TMDs as inexpensive HTLs for high‐efficiency organic photovoltaics.  相似文献

In recent years, gradient vector flow (GVF) based algorithms have been successfully used to segment a variety of 2-D and 3-D imagery. However, due to the compromise of internal and external energy forces within the resulting partial differential equations, these methods may lead to biased segmentation results. In this paper, we propose MSGVF, a mean shift based GVF segmentation algorithm that can successfully locate the correct borders. MSGVF is developed so that when the contour reaches equilibrium, the various forces resulting from the different energy terms are balanced. In addition, the smoothness constraint of image pixels is kept so that over- or under-segmentation can be reduced. Experimental results on publicly accessible datasets of dermoscopic and optic disc images demonstrate that the proposed method effectively detects the borders of the objects of interest.  相似文献

Color quantization is an important operation with many applications in graphics and image processing. Most quantization methods are essentially based on data clustering algorithms. However, despite its popularity as a general purpose clustering algorithm, k-means has not received much respect in the color quantization literature because of its high computational requirements and sensitivity to initialization. In this paper, we investigate the performance of k-means as a color quantizer. We implement fast and exact variants of k-means with several initialization schemes and then compare the resulting quantizers to some of the most popular quantizers in the literature. Experiments on a diverse set of images demonstrate that an efficient implementation of k-means with an appropriate initialization strategy can in fact serve as a very effective color quantizer.  相似文献

We consider buffer management in support of large-scale gossip-based peer-to-peer data dissemination protocols. Coupled with an efficient buffering mechanism, system-wide buffer usage can be optimized while providing reliability and scalability in such protocols. We propose a novel approach, stepwise fair-share buffering, that provides uniform load distribution and reduces the overall buffer usage where every peer has a partial view of the system. We report and discuss the comparative performance results with existing buffering approaches as well as random buffering which serves as a benchmark. We present separate evaluations of bufferer selection and gossip-based data dissemination. Reliability, content dissemination time, message delay, buffering delay, and minimum buffer requirements are considered as the key metrics investigated through simulations. The performance of our approach in the case of multiple senders, link failures with multiple bufferers, and scalability to larger networks are investigated. Several power-law and hierarchical overlay topologies are considered. Analytical bounds for reliability of dissemination are also provided.  相似文献

We review the impact of Grid Computing and Web Services on scientific computing, stressing the importance of the “data-deluge” that is driven by deployment of new instruments, sensors and satellites. This implies the need to integrate the naturally distributed data sources with large simulation engines offering parallel low latency communication and so to integrate parallel and Grid computing paradigms. We start with an overview of these and the evolving service architectures. We illustrate the identified areas of interest for Algorithms and the Grid with the specific example of SERVOGrid that supports earthquake science research. We comment on the appropriate messaging infrastructure for Grids and data assimilation and contrast it with MPI.  相似文献

The generation of nanocomposites upon intercalation and exfoliation of clay tactoids using melt compounding is a difficult process. In this study various polymeric binders were melt compounded with organophilic clay particles using myriad methods, including sonication, batch mixing, and twin screw extrusion. The characterization of the compounded samples employing X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that there is little intercalation and exfoliation when nonpolar poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) and poly(propylene) (PP) binders were used, resulting in no significant changes in the dynamic properties of the suspensions upon small‐amplitude oscillatory shearing. On the other hand, when polar polymeric binders, i.e., silanol terminated poly(dimethyl siloxane) and maleic anhydride modified PP were used for compounding with organoclays, TEM and XRD revealed intercalation with some partial exfoliation, resulting in increases in the dynamic properties, along with sensitivity to the thermomechanical history during processing. These results reinforce earlier findings, which suggest that the interfacial properties between the organoclays and the polymeric binders need to be tailored properly to enable the generation of nanocomposites of organoclays using melt compounding technologies. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, we consider the problem of generating agile maneuver profiles for Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles in 3D Complex environments. This problem is complicated by the fact that, generation of the dynamically and geometrically feasible flight trajectories for agile maneuver profiles requires search of nonlinear state space of the aircraft dynamics. This work suggests a two layer feasible trajectory/maneuver generation system. Integrated Path planning (considers geometrical, velocity and acceleration constraints) and maneuver generation (considers saturation envelope and attitude continuity constraints) system enables each layer to solve its own reduced order dimensional feasibility problem, thus simplifies the problem and improves the real time implement ability. In Trajectory Planning layer, to solve the time depended path planning problem of an unmanned combat aerial vehicles, we suggest a two step planner. In the first step, the planner explores the environment through a randomized reachability tree search using an approximate line segment model. The resulting connecting path is converted into flight way points through a line-of-sight segmentation. In the second step, every consecutive way points are connected with B-Spline curves and these curves are repaired probabilistically to obtain a geometrically and dynamically feasible path. This generated feasible path is turned in to time depended trajectory with using time scale factor considering the velocity and acceleration limits of the aircraft. Maneuver planning layer is constructed upon multi modal control framework, where the flight trajectories are decomposed to sequences of maneuver modes and associated parameters. Maneuver generation algorithm, makes use of mode transition rules and agility metric graphs to derive feasible maneuver parameters for each mode and overall sequence. Resulting integrated system; tested on simulations for 3D complex environments, gives satisfactory results and promises successful real time implementation.  相似文献

This paper analyzes coordination in a supply chain with random yield and random demand (SCRYRD). We study wholesale price, buy-back, revenue share, quantity discount and quantity flexibility contracts. We show that the randomness in the yield does not change the coordination ability of the contracts but affects the values of the contract parameters. In particular, all contracts are shown to coordinate the supply chain under voluntary compliance except the wholesale price contract. We also provide a sensitivity analysis of the optimal policy parameters to the cost and demand parameters.  相似文献
