Development and evaluation of antimicrobial natamycin‐incorporated film in gorgonzola cheese conservation

Conservation of food products depends on product quality and packaging suitability. The objective of this work was to develop and evaluate the antimicrobial efficiency of natamycin‐incorporated film in the production process of Gorgonzola cheese. It aims to optimize the production process and increase shelf‐life and food safety for the consumer. Films with different concentrations of natamycin were produced and tested in Gorgonzola cheeses to evaluate its efficiency against Penicillium roqueforti on the cheese surface. Films with 2 and 4% natamycin presented satisfactory results for fungus inhibition and the amount of natamycin released to the cheese was below that allowed by the legislation. Application of holographic interferometry for determining the solubility of gases in liquids

The effect of a gas dissolved in a liquid on the variation of the refractive index of the compressed mixture was studied. The compression process was monitored with the aid of a holographic interferometer. The sensitivity of this method allows the compressibility of water and the solubility of helium and nitrogen to be studied at pressures below 4 atm. A procedure for obtaining qualitative and quantitative data on the solubility of gases in liquids is proposed.

Thermodynamics of Superfluidity

A new superfluid specific additive integral of motion is found. This facilitates investigation of the general thermodynamic equilibrium conditions of a superfluid. The analysis is performed in an extended space of thermodynamic variables containing (along with the usual thermodynamic coordinates such as pressure and temperature) superfluid velocity and momentum density. The equilibrium stability conditions lead to thermodynamic inequalities which replace the Landau superfluidity criterion at finite temperatures.     

Radiation-induced hydrogen yield from silicon bombarded with 710-MeV bismuth ions

The behavior of hydrogen in solids under the action of intense ionizing radiation is of importance in solving numerous problems of materials science for the nuclear and thermonuclear power industry, spacecraft engineering, hydrogen energetics, and microelectronics. Experimental results are presented that provide evidence of the radiation-induced yield of hydrogen from single crystal silicon bombarded with 710-MeV bismuth ions.     

GaAs pHEMT-based technology for microwave applications in a volume MMIC production environment on 150-mm wafers

The establishment of a 150-mm (6-in) gallium arsenide (GaAs) facility is described together with the development of very high yielding and cost-effective semiconductor device technologies and a manufacturing capacity of over 40000 wafers/annum. The background to the demand for very high volumes of RF products for this market is discussed, together with the prospects for future growth. The paper describes recent process development by the utilization of a data-driven yield management system to support the delivery of high-quality RF products to customers. Finally, "end of line" DC and RF testing of finished 150-mm GaAs pHEMT foundry wafers is described, enabling scalar measurements of power, noise, and intermodulation products as well as vector measurements of S-parameters and noise parameters at frequencies of up to 40 GHz.
