The effect of a feedback control on the onset of steady and oscillatory Bénard–Marangoni instability in a rotating horizontal fluid layer is considered theoretically using linear stability theory. It is demonstrated that generally the critical Marangoni number for transition from the no-motion (conduction) to the motion state can be drastically increased by the combined effects of feedback control and rotation. The role of the controller gain parameter on the Pr-Ta and Pr-R/Rc parameter spaces, dividing stability domains into which either steady or oscillatory convection is preferred, is determined.  相似文献

In this paper the effect of sintering temperature on Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 is examined closely. The evolution of toward magnetically ordered materials was to be tracked with the parallel evolving microstructure subjected to sintering temperatures in an ascending order. The starting powder of Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 was prepared via mechanical alloying and later molded into toroidal samples. After each sintering, we observed the resulting changes in the materials. The XRD data showed a single phase being formed as early as 600 °C and the peak intensity was increasing with the sintering temperature indicating an increase in the degree of crystallinity. The BH hysteresis loops showed the evolution from paramagnetism to moderate ferromagnetism to strong ferromagnetism with microstructural changes. For lower sintering temperatures, the samples showed paramagnetic behavior dominating the samples. As sintering temperature increased, paramagnetic states decreased and, at 900 °C, a moderately ferromagnetic state appeared. Sintering at 1000 °C produced a strongly ferromagnetic state giving a well-formed sigmoid-shape hysteresis loop.  相似文献

This work describes the effect of a repetitive cooking-chilling process on resistant starch content in crackers prepared from a mixture of fish and starch, which are popularly known in Malaysia as “keropok.” Three fish cracker formulations were prepared using tapioca, wheat, and sago starch. Up to four cycles of repetitive cooking-chilling increased the resistant starch content in all products; however, the hardness of chilled samples decreased, and their moisture content increased. For the fried samples, the texture became harder, the color turned darker, and linear expansion was reduced. The dried fish cracker samples prepared with sago starch yielded the highest resistant starch content. The results demonstrated that four cycles of repetitive cooking-chilling were able to enhance resistant starch in fish crackers.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Much attention has been given to applying ionic liquids (ILs) as an alternative pretreatment method for lignocellulosic biomass. This study aims to select the most suitable type of IL for pretreating sugarcane bagasse (SCB). The potential of ILs for pretreatment was evaluated and compared with conventional pretreatment media, acids and alkalis. The performance of the pretreatment media was evaluated based on the amount of reducing sugar produced from enzymatic saccharification, the energy requirement, and changes in the chemical structure and crystallinity index of the pretreated bagasse. RESULTS: 1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium acetate [EMIM]oAc was selected as the most suitable IL for SCB pretreatment. The optimum yields of reducing sugar obtained from [EMIM]oAc‐, alkali‐, and acid‐pretreated SCB were 69.5%, 92.8% and 41.3%, respectively. Although a lower yield of reducing sugar was obtained, [EMIM]oAc pretreatment required the least energy to pretreat 1 kg of SCB. Moreover, the percentage of SCB loss during [EMIM]oAc pretreatment was the lowest. [EMIM]oAc‐pretreated SCB also had the lowest crystallinity index (CI) with the most amorphous structure. CONCLUSION: [EMIM]oAc appears to be another option for pretreating SCB, and other issues such as the recyclability of [EMIM]oAc is worth investigating. This study investigated the role of age, marital status, gender, nationality, educational background and monthly income in drivers' comprehension of traffic signs. The populations sampled here were from five Arabian Gulf Countries. A total of 28 symbolic warning and regulatory signs were investigated. A questionnaire specially prepared to collect the necessary data was distributed to over 9000 drivers in the five countries; 4774 responded (53%). The results indicated substantial problems with the level of comprehension among the drivers about the traffic signs. The percentages of drivers who correctly identified the regulatory signs and warning signs were around 55 and 56%, respectively. Age, gender, education and income played major roles in determining drivers' comprehension of signs, whereas marital status showed no significant effect. Drivers who are young, female, those with lower levels of education or lower incomes understand the signs significantly worse than drivers who are older, male, with higher levels of education or higher incomes. Drivers from Europe and USA are significantly better than Asian and Arab drivers. These findings are believed to be important for the designers of road signs for international applications.  相似文献

A procedure for subspace stacking is proposed, and it is proved that the technique is equally successful for both linear codes and anticodes. It is demonstrated that families of errorcorrecting codes may be constructed using the proposed technique for stacking linear codes. In December 1996, TIME magazine published an article titled "Finding God on the Web," which projected how the Internet would shape information seeking on faith and religion. A decade later, the Web has become a popular tool for gathering religious information as well as information and imagery related to religious travel. Yet there is little research on religious destination imagery online. Imagery—positive or negative, pictographic or narrative—influences the selection of tourism destinations. This study explored online Muslim images in Malaysia via interviews and content analyses of pictures and text on tourism destination websites' homepages. The results reveal minimal portrayal of Muslim images by Malaysian tourism destination organizations. This study adds to the small body of research, especially in Muslim countries, on online religious imagery and suggests avenues for tourism operators in Malaysia and elsewhere to improve their online image with both Muslim and non-Muslim travelers.  相似文献

Theoretical analysis of potential distribution in the interdigital-gated high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) plasma wave device was carried out. The dc IV characteristics of capacitively coupled interdigital structure showed that uniformity of electric field under the interdigital gates was improved compared to the dc-connected interdigital gate structure. Admittance measurements of capacitively coupled interdigital gate structure in the microwave region of 10–40 GHz showed the conductance modulation by drain–source voltage. These results indicate the existence of plasma wave interactions.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Magnesium layered hydroxide (MLH) intercalated with anionic 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)propionic acid (MPP) was synthesised by a direct reaction method using magnesium oxide and MPP as precursors. A further coating of chitosan was applied on the external surface of MLH–MPP nanocomposite to form a new material, named MLH–MPP/chitosan nanocomposite. The XRD pattern showed an intense and sharp peak at basal spacing 18.9 Å, proving that MPP anions were successfully intercalated into the interlayer gallery of MLH in a monolayer arrangement. The XRD pattern of the MLH–MPP/chitosan nanocomposite shows similar peaks with the MLH–MPP nanocomposite. The result was also supported by FTIR spectra and elemental analysis. TGA/DTG spectra showed that the thermal stabilities of the guest anion in the both nanocomposites were markedly enhanced. A controlled-release study of the MPP ion from the MLH–MPP/chitosan nanocomposite showed a slower release compared to MLH–MPP nanocomposite with an initial rapid release and slow release thereafter. Meanwhile, the release behaviours of MPP ions from both nanocomposites were governed by pseudo-second order kinetics. This result highlights the potential of the nanocomposite as an encapsulated material for the controlled-release formulation of MPP anions.  相似文献
